I love Kalu but I do feel he was a bit old to be playing in the 70s. The 1950s was his era.

The question for me is not whether we would have won that under Edwards but, if RE was as tactically naive as many say, why the hell our owner made another colossal business mistake by employing him in the beginning?

How much has that business mistake cost Watford FC?

After getting it wrong on so many occasions why has he not passed HC recruitment to somebody capable?

I think he did. Edwards was Duxbury’s man, as was Hodgson if reports are to be believed. I’m not a fan of what Gino is doing by any means, but Bilic is his appointment, he made that clear. Can only assume he made it clear because the last 2 train wrecks we’ve had were Duxbury’s. Ranieri and Xisco sound like Giaretta, again if you believe the reports/hearsay. So not trying to defend him for all the other mistakes he has made over the past 3/4 years, but he was 100% correct to fire Edwards, and if we believe the reports, he’s 100% correct to hire who he wants, because at least the last 4 duds* weren’t his.

    * I know we were promoted with Xisco, so probably unfair to call him a dud but he had no clue what he was doing once we were in the Prem.

As you say we were dreadful at WBA. Embarrassingly so. Played off the park by a team who are floating around the relegation zone. He was a “one formation” manager who played that way irrespective of the players he had available. Kamara at RWB. Terrible substitutions. Nice guy, wholly out of his depth.

Yep. Because after 17 managers, Bilic is the answer. Bilic is what will change everything.

Bilic will build a team that gets us promoted and then grows year on year in the top division.

It's not just another new manager bounce that will ebb away and then become stale withing weeks/months, leaving us in the same position when these players decide they've had enough or that Bilic is no longer the fresh vision they had hoped for.

No, this time it's for keeps.

I quite liked having a head coach whose aunt was/is a flamenco dancer. Having said that Bilic plays in a rock band so could accompany SEJ at the Christmas do.

Tbf the first half a hour we were on top then tried to do our usual sit back for a bit before we got the 2nd and Stoke rather gave up whilst as we gained control and stayed on the front foot .

The football we played yesterday was utter garbage, in fact it was laughable at times. Did nobody see the umpteen misplaced passes, the absolute inability to pass to a yellow shirt, the lack of effort off the ball and the general uselessness of our entire squad? People on this thread saying Sema was our best player, seriously LMFAO.
We won because Stoke are a complete shambles, they made us look like a football team. Prepare for a shock on Wednesday when we play a half decent team. Bilic hasn't suddenly turned a sh*te squad into World beaters.

I think the expectation was that Dennis, Sarr and Joao would all be sold, and that it would be a total rebuild job that they thought Edwards could oversee.

With Sarr and Joao both staying, the greater financial gamble on this season meant that they once again reverted to short term goals and Edwards wasn't seen as up to it.

The way we started the season, it definitely looked like Edwards had planned to be without any of them, and it seemed like Sarr and Joao were shoehorned in because of their ability. The ridiculous 3-4-3 at WBA kind of showed that.

Either way it's indecisive and poor management from Gino as per

Confidence is key, and maybe a garbage, laughable 4-0 thrashing is what they players needed to give them a bit of a boost.

I was excited when I turned my phone on again after our first match and saw the result!
I did a "Vincenzo Montella" around the Camden Hill courts!
The members were rather surprised to see a middle aged tennis player with a purple Hazelwood shirt and yellow socks ( had to be done) circling court 3.
Some of them even put down their oysters and champagne flutes!

Away from all the talk of how amazingly we played and how well we are run as a club, I have to say Asprilla booting the ball away in anger right in front of the ref was one of the funniest things I’ve seen for a long time in a Watford shirt.

Since Holebas left, I’ve missed a player that had uncontrollable outbursts of hilarious anger. Long live the king.

We aren’t going to get promoted and then grow year after year in the prem. We are too small. Surely you know that by now ? Thought you would be happy with a mid table champ existence under anyone other than Pozzo having “got your club back”?

I pray you're right. I won't be going though, as I'm not going back until I'm guaranteed that there will be other fans as angry as I.

I also predicted a loss against Stoke. I always go against what I think will happen because where Watford are concerned I'm usually wrong.

Been thinking about RE. I think there was a major difference in how RE and GP viewed the idea of a "reset".
RE clearly thought it meant - "throw everything out, complete restart, build another FGR and in 2 years we will see a transformed team/club" (a la GT).
The team didn't know what they were doing, had zero confidence, performances were poor and so trying to oust the TD was the last straw.....

I think Pedro and Bachmann have been better but agree that Sema has been performing consistently well. Should keep his place even when Pedro returns (with Asprilla making way).

Calamity Ken Sema is the perfect gauge of the lack of quality of the chumpionship. He has shone this season and was also a star in our last promotion season, yet is indescribably bad in the premier league.

If we get promoted and I was a manager of a championship club, I'd be making him my number one transfer target.

Some interesting points. Chuffed to bits with the result let’s hoe it’s a spring board towards better things ! Agree with the misplaced passes but equally great to see Hassane pouring up the left and explaining in his post match interview how he is a left footer, that made me laugh. Was hoping to get up for the game tomorrow but work intervenes unfortunately. Got tickets for the Luton game hate to say it but they looked organised to me. Please someone say I’m wrong

I think Sema is a perfect example of how things like strength, speed and athleticism naturally rise to the top, he literally gets outmuscled and beaten for pace by virtually every PL player, yet he can more then hold his own on the championship. There are probably plenty of decent footballers in the championship in terms of football iq and ability, but they’re missing 10/20% of the athleticism that would make them a top level player.

Just realised I put Tuesday not Wednesday lol just a quick question do you know the regulations regarding kamara ie he has been sold to udinese and then put on loan to us for the season. In theory could he be loaned to us for longer or bought back by us how does it work? He’s a revelation back there for us just hoping he didn’t have to leave at the end of the season

It's hard to make the argument that Sema has much footballing IQ or ability. He's a threat at this level because he's a willing runner and isn't afraid to take on a player.

In some ways I'd love Sarr to have the same mentality as Ken when it comes to attacking fullbacks, but as you say, the complete players tend not to be playing in this division

No it isn't. Stoke were horrific. My son's U17s would give them a game.
