Not too dissimilar to last time really, we often seemed to win games without playing well and without really knowing how we’d won them.
Great win given the circumstances. Had to ride our luck yes but certainly worked hard to try and keep them out Best week in Bachmann’s WFC career . Actually looked solid in defence and midfield was better . Shame Kamara will miss games - excellent until the Red card.
Thought Choudhury had a good debut, that tackle in the second half was excellent. Very frustrating about Kamara’s red card seeing as Semi Ajayi wasn’t even booked for a similar challenge on Sarr on Monday evening. As for Asprilla I’m glad he came on although it wasn’t a great game for him to make his debut in (holding onto a 1-0 lead), just hope we’re able to see what he can do properly soon, maybe from the start of a game. We weren’t perfect by any stretch and can obviously still improve, but I’m not going to complain with another three points, especially against a side we expect to be nearer to the top end of the table come the end of the season.
Agree with comments about Gaspar. I lost count how many times he turned inside and played it safe to Sierralta. He looks like he could do a job at RCB but if he is our flying RWB then we have shafted the manager a bit there.
How refreshing, not the prettiest but for the first time in 12 months, we saw a home performance with grit, passion and hard work. Bachman made some fantastic saves, think one was offside in the end but it was fantastic. Cathcart also did his job very well, Siereltta good with his head but takes too long to pick a pass. Gaspar rusty but can see a player is there, Kamara always gives 100% but was a bit erratic today. Will be a big miss though. Kayembe won MOTM, I didn't rate him THAT highly, he also takes far too many touches before moving the ball on but I also don't think he's as bad as some make out on here, works very hard and does a decent job at breaking up play. Cleverly looked way off it again but who cares when you score the vital goal! Gosling did ok as his replacement. Decent debut from Choudhury, put himself about and made some great tackles. Like Gaspar lacked match sharpness. I think our midfield as a whole will benefit greatly from the return of Louza. Say what you want about Sema, he is very very limited as a footballer but his work rate and just sheer determination tonight was so good. Rewarded with an assist. Sarr the opposite, if he applied himself like Sema he'd be so much more effective. Still a problem for defences and can still affect a game, every game, at this level. Pedro bit strange, still a bit of a hog, mixed with poor decision-making, then does something utterly sublime. He is most certainly not a #9 though, no way. Bayo looks hilarious, not sure what to make of that. Asprilla looks bloody exciting! Can't wait to see this boy grow, he was naive with some fouls and Edwards smartly took him off defensive duties and told Bayo to play wide right but this kid could be a real X-Factor if he continues to develop and fills out. Great start, great feeling around the stadium again, well done to Rob, really like him so I'm glad it's working out. Burnley were shyte for 60 minutes and will not be going up.
I think much like two seasons ago the Championship is utter gash. We haven't moved into second gear yet and we're unbeaten against so called promotion rivals. Actually we've played without a midfield for two of those games as well!
Can't believe I've just seen us win a game where Bachmann, Kayembe and Sema were our best players. What a world.
Having watched it back I thought similar, however, was his touch crap because it was just a crap touch or was it because he was being fouled?
Oh yeah also, those two Gosling corners back to back. Wow, how hard can it be? The second one didn't leave the ground! And why did they scrap the second drinks break?
I'm a tad squiffy, I'm not going to lie,, so apologies if already posted, but what a fantastic debut performance from Hamza Choudry this evening!!!
That was more positive than the WBA game, but still very much a work in progress. We looked more solid overall (defensive and attacking lines were better synced) and had some decent spells, especially after the first drinks break and just after half time. We also soaked up pressure well at the end. Bachmann and Choudhury were very good. The latter was everywhere and when he got tired around 60 mins, we imploded. Already our most important player. Better from Kayembe, Sema and Cathcart. Gaspar looks like a Watford pre Pozzo FB. Slow, safe and a strange wing back choice in a league full of cloggers. Wasn’t sure about the first sub as losing Sarr’s pace allowed Burnley to push up higher, but introducing Asprilla slightly counteracted that until the red card. Wasn’t very impressed with Burnley, but the Brazilian who came on near the end looked very, very good.
For Burnley, there were similarities with their game against Luton, where they didn't pose much of a threat in the first half but looked much more dangerous in the second. However, for all their dominance they couldn't take advantage of it. As for us we don't make the chances but are more likely to score when we do get the ball on target.
Neither was I, assuming Giaretta has annoyingly told RE to bring him off early to avoid injury that may halt any potential sale.
I had been calling for Gosling instead of Cleverley...it didn't make much difference, and to be fair to Clev, he did pop up in the right place to score! There was no drinks break in the second half because it had cooled down by half time
Delighted with the result as I always feel we struggle against Burnley. Pleased to hear that Bachman and Choudry had good games.
I’ve enjoyed more games (2 to precise) this season than I did for the entirety of last season. No we are a long way short of the finished product but guess Edwards can’t create his preferred long term team until we know whose staying come September across three matches we probably deserved one point against sheff u. The fact we’ve got 7 is marvellous. Feels very much like two seasons ago where we ground out 1-0 wins by playing garbage
So some immediate thoughts. we don’t all need to be in two camps either hating everything or being a cheer leader for a pile of **** we are fans. Let’s go empirically. 7 from 9 points. I’ll take that. All that matters in 10 years is the points. we have some new players and a new manager. Possibly a new system where we stick with him. This isn’t the prem, our next opponents aren’t city, Liverpool and spurs. We don’t have to be perfect, this season the team and manager have done well - points count. we are top of the league! Let’s celebrate that. Look at Norwich ffs. we need to give this team (flawed as it is, recruited badly as it is) and this manager time, proper time. Please we didn’t win 6-0 and dominate the game. It isn’t going to happen. But we have with talented players let’s support them. Bachman ( haven’t been a fan) has been excellent this week, sema looked okay going forward, our defence wasn’t and hasn’t been ****. Jobs have been done at this level. Our strikers even with 2 leaving scare the **** out of other teams we won’t be perfect but we should support OUR team, regardless of owners
Can we be as divided on the ref as the Burnley fans ?! https://www.uptheclarets.com/messag...&t=63624&sid=fec9efb4235cbdae52a8d4bfdd947708 He let a lot go but then got fussy . Cannot complain about the red - can we ?
Why are people saying 3 game ban for Kamara, I thought it was just 1? Having seen the highlights now their player's touch was very heavy and Bachmann would likely have gotten there anyway!
I was hoping the ref would be lenient and not consider it absolutely dead certain that their player would be in on goal...but deep down I knew it was a red tbf
Off topic but big crowd at Wembley station but then soon realised it wasn’t a football match. Apparently C0ldplay were playing but they started at 5 pm - they must put on really long concerts! Edit - had to change the band’s name a bit - seems they aren’t very popular here…
3 of the most over hated players on this forum (and that’s saying something for here ) won us the game tonight .
Yup, said on the way out of the ground that these are the kinds of wins that launch a season, build confidence in and unity between the team and supporters and form the basis for a promotion tilt.
