Benfica and Porto looking at Pedro apparently https://the72.co.uk/2022/06/27/porto-and-benfica-battling-to-sign-watford-ace-report-claims/
I'm saying this with optimism but I can't see it, Portos record transfer is £18m and Benficas is £30m (Darwin Nunez who they've just flipped after a couple of seasons to Liverpool for double that - their previous record buy is only £20m). I'm hopeful that we'd be after more than £20m for him which would ultimately price them out.
I hope you’re right. But if he decides he wants out then apparently we’re bending to those kinds of demands this summer.
One of the few players in the squad that seems to possess a backbone, be a shame when he goes. Has Mogi got a brother in Portugal?
Exactly. We don't want players who don't want to be here. I heard that João mentioned in passing to Scott that the Harlequin was only his second favourite shopping centre and now he's being offered to Olympiacos for £2m.
If selling JP means we finally have the funds to offer Afobe what he wants & upgrade our attack then its a great piece of business!
It doesn't seem totally unrealistic for one of them to offer £20mil. If that happens can you really see the club turning it down?
Maybe that's why the club enquired for Piroe? Sell JP for £20mil, sign Piroe for £10mil, use the spare £10mil to reduce the debt.
As I understand it Sarr has actually depreciated to around £100 so even selling him for £20m would represent an enormous profit for Gino.
It's definitely not beyond the realms of possibility and could possibly happen - but if it did it would surprise me. I'm not sure whether we'd turn down £20m, the club rate him incredibly highly and according to Levanthal he signed a new contract last season that takes him to 2027 so we're not in a desperate rush to sell him like we are Sarr. Guess it would depend on whether Pedro is gonna kick up a stink for the move or whether he's happy to continue developing here for another couple of seasons.
A true Watford legend. Cucho called it "Atria" or some crap which is why he was out the door quicker than Danny Rose could eat a donut.
(Insert insultingly low fee here) for a player who is inconsistent, didn't score that many in our last Championship and has never nailed down his preferred position would be absolutely fantastic business from Gino and co.
Getting rid of players who don't want to be here, so we can watch Cleverley lead from the front, another masterstroke by Gino & Co. Hear about it on the pod.
I know you're joking, but given JP will be homegrown as of Jan that's not really a reason to sell him.
What’s more, jeapordising his HG status makes him a less saleable asset to PL clubs in the future. HG status has value in and of itself and it’s worth making sure he secures it (and JP himself may be determined to secure it too).
Can’t see it , he is (or will be) a home grown player which was (allegedly) one of the reasons we let cucho go so easily We are going to sell Starr and Dennis which should net £45m (guess ) and we have made a big thing about JP not going anywhere. If we were offered towards £30m possibly but can’t see he is worth buying for more than £15m , he has lots of talent and skill but still really young without that much experience and isn’t a proven goal scorer at the top level (not a criticism - think he is about the best we have) . think we will keep this year and next (if we are promoted) and then sell on. would be a blow to lose Starr / Dennis / cucho and Pedro
Maybe JP doesn't really fit with RE's formation.? If we're playing WBs maybe RE wants 2 real target men...?
Sure. And then Joao Pedro, our best player in possession, can play as a number 10. Sounds ideal to me.
If JP is not a prefered option over any other player we currently have or may bring in then Edwards is an idiot and should probably contenplate staying in league 2.
Not necessarily quite as elegantly as I might have put it, but the message is entirely sound, to my mind. If Edwards' assessment was anything other than prioritising JP over pretty much the entire squad, we may have made a mistake.
Think they have signed Enzo Fernandez for £20M. I hope to God Pedro stays. He's one of the few shining lights left among the dross.
