There was a thread about this not so long ago - verdict, like now, inconclusive: http://www.wfcforums.com/index.php?threads/watford-fc-season-2000-2001.51521/
Exactly. The dilemma is caused by the fact that we need him but hamstring injuries require time to heal and there is no exact time when it can be said to not be a potential recurring problem. Given that he is a speed-merchant he may be particularly vulnerable to this. Personally I'd rather they rested him for Brighton rather than risking buggering himself for the rest of the season. Frustrating, but there it is.
I don't disagree with the sentiment, but it's an unfortunate limitation of the medium. Written words lack tone as context and don't allow body language to enter into the equation, so the reader can colour them any way they want. End result is people tend to colour online communications with their own personality and prejudices, because they can't know those of the author. There are a number of studies that show the overwhelming majority of communication is non-verbal and based on vision, hence why things break down in the written format far more than you ever see in person. Not to mention that being a **** in person tends to get you lumped sooner or later.
Exactly, yes I remember, Boxing day wasn't it ? That season was a terribly sad end to the second GT era. Still a great day at Burnley though despite the defeat.
Wow - How nice to actually see a fans forum without all the crap arrogance and with supporters who do have a clue.. thanks! opening post sums us up well. Much better football this season on the whole, but not the points to go with it. Shame when you have teams like Palace(franchise founded 2010), Burnley etc in it. I think you’re all being a tad negative - most of our fans seem to be expecting a defeat as we’ve been poor recently & have zero confidence. I see you guys staying up as despite the last 2 results you have some momentum. Our fixtures are in theory ‘easier’ having played the top 6 all away but I don’t think we’ll win Saturday. As the OP says, it’s a great away game and a nice county we live in. Unlike Luton (what a hole that is) or Croydon (see Luton). You won’t get much in the way of abuse unless you act like the West Ham fans Saturday who deservedly got pelters when we equalised - the mockney *****. All the best for the season, and keep up the level headed threads!
Stay away from them and get yourself to Burger Brothers (https://www.brightonburgers.co.uk/b...mQWy08WtHGn3UbBtvrNrTpgNZUMZMJq3vZ8eVfxcGD9hI) instead. I popped in a couple of years back and try to go back whenever we do Brighton away (7 min walk from Brighton station). Won loads of awards and genuinely the nicest burger I've ever eaten.
It should be remembered that their ‘reserves’ that night included Brown, O’Shea, Neville (P), Yorke and Solskjaer.
I've mentioned it many times before now, but my worst experience of watching Watford that day. Cold as ****, battered, and Carlton Palmer clapping the fans at the end, horrific experience, like most of that season after about the 15th game.
Can see it now. Friend to relegate us with a terrible decision in the last minute. Foster tries to swap shirts with him at the full-time.
Yes, but who at the time knew what sort of careers they were going to have? All we knew was that our promotion-chasers were given a right runaround.
Their respective ages at the time were: 21, 20, 23, 29 and 27. And Yorke and Solskjaer were famously regularly rotated in the first team with Sheringham and Cole.
Speaking of 00/01 season. Sheff Wed on a cold tuesday at the Vic. Lost 3-1 with Tommy Smith scoring our goal. Reactions going around the ground were of shock. Little did we know that was our first loss in a row of lots. We then lost af Tranmere and at home to Preston, despite a stunning goal from Johnson. Depressing times
I got this game mixed up with a 3-1 home defeat to Sheff Wed in 1987. We scored after 5 minutes, but then found ourselves 1-3 down after 15 minutes!!. A certain Nigel Pearson scored for Sheff Wed that day!!
And who had heard of the other half of the team? My Rothmans isn't to hand, but I don't remember being excited to see a team of superstars.
Didn't we miss a penalty in that game too? Brighton seem to be pretty good at set plays....whilst we're pretty rubbish at either defending or attacking them. Lets hope we don't give too many away then.
That's unfair. Chalobah curled one from a decent wide position miles over everyone's heads and straight out for a goal kick last weekend.
People have mentioned the Utd stuffing that season as the turning point, but in my mind it was always this game where I knew and I think everyone else did that it was over.
Not gonna say must win as it depends on other results but we cant afford to be cut adrift at this stage of the season. Hopefully if we do win the players and manager wont feel the need to celebrate like they have achieved something like they did away to Bournemouth just before this slump started.
In retrospect it does look a bit cringe worthy, with all those fist pumps considering we are now in another slump, but you've got a celebrate the good moments. They don't come along very often. Pearson's OTT celebration was very well received at the time and everyone loved it. It's important the message "we're all in it together" is believed and the celebrations after that game were just a part of the bonding process.
No, but my point is that we had a team that was used to winning which played a less-than-full-strength top flight team and got outplayed to an extent unequalled untol Man City went to work on us. O believe that destroyed morale to an extent that even GT wasn't able to rectify.
It wasn't just our players and staaf doing it though - pundits and journalists also started acting as if we were out of trouble, hence that cursed Pearson-focused David Squires cartoon.
And hopefully the fans won't start goading and chanting at the opposition supporters of "you're going down with the Norwich". Always... ALWAYS comes back to bite us on the arse when we do that.
No Sarr means we’re doomed. Watch Chalobah get subbed off after 60 mins and the team’s shape unravel as we fall to a crippling defeat.
