Even within a fantastical storyline you can have some sort of consistency of vision. You have to be able to suspend your disbelief or have some form of investment.

When you watch the first two Alien films they don’t keep putting Coca Cola logos in your face or giving teenagers mind numbing scenes where they discuss their feelings. The tension isn’t broken by the viewer constantly having grating inconsistencies to consider.

Comes down to the writing. The retro feel and atmosphere were refreshing in the first two series even if it was ultimately silly. Now it’s a tired money spinner.

Watched the pilot of LA's Finest the other night. It was on Sky Witness which is a channel apparently. Has the future Mrs. Meister Jessica Alba in it. Usual Pilot mess of cramming too much in and trying to give the characters backstory too quickly, but it has potential.

Mrs Keighley watched it last night.

I harrumphed and expressed the wish that Starsky and Hutch be brought back.

    Exactly.

A few years ago, the younger one started saying 'This is great banter'.

But he hadn't heard of Partridge!

Also, we've done Seinfeld & Frasier. Gained Family Guy in return.

We did ‘Curb’ too which he enjoyed when I thought it might be a little middle aged for him.

    Series 10 sometime next year.

Who says it doesn't? That entire shopping centre was new since the last season. Who is to say they didn't just smuggle the earth out when building the shopping centre. Who is going to notice in a small town in the 80s? The entire premises of the early episodes is about how corrupt the mayor is. Who is to say the machine they used to create the breach wasn't used to burn through the earth? Does it really matter?

The answer is no. There are a boatload of possible answers for anyone with an imagination and none of them are relevant to the plot in any way, shape or form. It's not necessary to show what's behind the curtain all the time.

As for the product placement, those are all nostalgia/pop culture references using old branding or, in some cases, entirely defunct products. How many cans of New Coke do you think they sold in the wake of Lucas downing one with such gusto considering the product doesn't exist anymore?

    Alien plot issues:

How many of those (and that's far from a complete list) dampened your enjoyment of the film?

As for the teenager scenes, it's a TV series based around teenage kids. I'm not sure what you expect. You were just espousing "consistency of vision" and "suspending your disbelief" and yet you want a show spanning almost 9 hours of runtime to not depict awkward teenagers doing awkward teenage things? Frankly, having them act like adults would be far more grating.

Not norks as such, norkish. An artistic getting out of bed "Butt in the moonlight shot" - and also a near nip slip in a slinky metallic dress.

You're obviously entitled to your opinion. Taste is, after all, subjective.

Not sure I'd use the word "prominent", but yes. The flip side is, would you prefer they made up the name of some non-existent chain instead? It's certainly an approach used elsewhere, but frankly I find that far more grating than a hungry character grabbing a burger from a real chain. Depicting fictional characters eating popular fast food is pretty relatable stuff, really. I felt the point of the Alexis/Burger King scene was more to establish he's pretty amenable to American ideals and isn't a very dyed-in-the-wool Ruskie. I didn't think him wanting a burger was particularly egregious.

I mean, if we want to talk product placement, Dungeons and Dragons is FAR more prominently featured than anything else in the entire show.

I finally finished Stranger Things 3 last night. The series got a bit better as it went on but the shameless Coca Cola adverts really got in the way. I think it would have been a bit more plausible if the underground facility was constructed by the US government lead by rogue scientists rather than Russians. As soon as it was known to various people that there was Russian military in the area, the US military would have descended upon the town.

'Fear the Walking Dead' writers, producers and directors. I'm interested to know - did some creative suggest that what's wrong with the series is that "...it's not 'A-Teamy' enough..."?

I'm up to episode 4 (Fox News has turned Obama into a "Free Fire Zone") and it's compulsive viewing. Russell Crowe is giving his performance of a lifetime as the foul Roger Ailes...

    Highly, highly recommended.

Glow on Netflix is really good. Haven't watched the new season yet, but it's worth watching if you've not seen it. There's also a new season of Last Chance U, which is also very good.

I thought the most recent season was probably the weakest so far. Beyond the coach, there weren’t too many intriguing storylines, or characters that you really wanted to root for. It’s still good viewing though.
