Could someone who went do a player rating and mini write up on their performance please. Lots of players we've hardly seen play and would like to hear about them.
You assume that there are strict rules that govern what Sky and BBC can show, and when, given they have paid so much for the rights. Seems to defeat the object if you or I can simply video the match and stick it on the internet 30 mins after it finishes ?
Here are my thoughts; http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...na-and-ben-wilmot-impress-in-carabao-cup-win/
pffft that team would thrash a team filled with deeney, gray, janmaat, holebas. hughes lost the ball more times v palace than any of our heroes did last night.
I take the point but if that was the case wouldn’t there be warnings issued before the match? Seems to me that the IP rights lie in the broadcast, not the match itself. I could be wrong though.
Some thoughts from last night :- I like going to Reading. Nice ground and easy to get to. Their fans are okay too (apart from the w-anchor who got the abuse he deserved). Their team are awful (even allowing for the fact that they had some of their reserves playing). We weren't great in the first half. I felt it was as if we had 11 players who didn't know one another. Which was probably true. We were much better in the second half. Most of the defence had very little to do. Mariappa played well, and Prodl went galloping upfield near the end which was quite exciting. Navarro didn't impress too much. Masina is rapid - what a flyer. Wilmot was quite composed and hoofed it clear when necessary - nothing wrong with that. Chalobah strolled through the game - very composed and controlled (but quite physical too - was he always that strong ?). Great debut and stunning goal from Quina (I wanted to type ("Quinoa" but I know that's not correctly spelt ). Success worked hard. Overall it wasn't what I expected; I thought we'd get the usual dismal performance of little effort from our back-up players, but they really seemed motivated for the game. Javi's influence ? Finally, it was great to see Gomes back. What a guy - he responded well to our cheering him too !
I don't know. It's just always struck me as odd that one can video the match and post on the net. Not sure what the legal definition of "broadcast" would be since the advent of the net ?
It's a breach of the terms you agree to when you buy a ticket and enter the stadium. They usually have signs up somewhere showing a list of prohibited items and behaviours. Recording devices are one of them - though clearly designed for the days of camcorders rather than smart phones. Para 19 for last night: https://www.readingfc.co.uk/fans/ground-regulations/ (though the conditions are pretty standard)
As a civilian back up in case state cctv is on the blink? But why would the state be interested in WFC? Is Corbyn going to nationalise us?
Was Chalobah moving ok? Any sign of (what really was) the muscle imbalance noted at the end of last season? Having Chals play 80 mins seems more miraculous than Quina’s goal.
He seemed to be moving okay ……….. you wouldn't have known that he'd been out injured for a year if you didn't know that he'd been out injured for a year !
Before he came off he was most definitely limping so he did something last night to make him come off rather than exhaustion.
That was excellent. Chalobah limped off on 80mins. Hope he's ok. Love in with HG continues. Quina is special. Cant remember enjoying a rnd 2 league cup match so much. Took 4hrs drive to get home at 2am after M4 M25 AND bloody A12 closures.
Nice local game for me and was home at 10.20pm after watching a very comfortable win. Gomes - Very little to do and what he did was done very easily. Great to see him back between the sticks and got a great reception Navarro - Not a lot last night convinced me that he is EPL standard but in fairness it was his first game so probably deserves the benefit of the doubt but don't feel he grasped the opportunity to shine Mariappa - Effort can never be faulted but his ability on the ball is just not good enough for standard we're at currently. Prodl - What has happened to this fella. Player of the season 16 months ago but I'm not sure I've seen a player regress quite as quickly as this. Even his aerial prowess seems to have disappeared. Apart from a barn storming run in to the box near the end of the game I thought he looked poor which is a concern as you would think he's probably third choice Wilmot - Pretty impressive debut. Looks comfortable on the ball but also knows when to just get rid of it. Good on the ball but most importantly, he seems to read the game very well which is a massive plus for a centre back. I would, on last nights performance put him above Prodl in the pecking order now. Looks a very astute signing Masina - Started off like he had never played the game before but grew in to it as it went on. Good in the air as well as on the ground. Is he better than Holebas? Better than last seasons Holebas but not this seasons Holebas. Much better back up based on last nights performance than anything else we have though. A decent debut Chalobah - That was a nice surprise to see him down as starting. Looked a bit rusty to start with but in the last half hour he looked head and shoulders above the rest. Having him back will be like a new signing Sema - I was really looking forward to seeing him from the start but felt he struggled to get in to the game and was a little disappointing to be honest. Not terrible but not good either Femenia - I love how Kiko plays the game, so incredibly quick but also a great touch. I still feel as though he is our best right back and having him and Delefeou on the right side would brilliant. Having said that he also looked good being further up the pitch Quina - £1m? I know it's only one game but what a player he looks and only 18 years old. Full of tricks and what a goal. That was probably one of the best debuts I've seen in a long time. Some questionable decision making especially in the defensive third but that's only a small negative in an otherwise very positive debut. Success - Plenty of energy, some good runs and a very well taken goal. Maybe should have score at least one other but a promising return to the staring line up. Has the ability if we can just get his head in the right place which seems to have happened now. An excellent back up for Deeney and Gray All in all a very professional performance which is impressive considering the amount of debuts being handed out. Would be nice to get a low league club in the next round as well as it would allow this to team to play again Bring on the Spurs
Agreed! There is one type of person worse than someone who records the game.... it's those that record themselves during a game - football vloggers I think they call themselves.
Firstly the fans were great tonight I know it was cheap and not too far but the fans were very vocal throughout the 90 minutes. Quina was the best player on the pitch, extremely energetic and great feet, I really cant get my head round why West Ham let him go. I thought Pr*dl was awful last night he looked the weak link in our starting 11, he give the ball away cheaply almost every time he had it at his feet and I don't think this went unnoticed on the pitch as I seen a couple of the players moaning at him. What impressed me the most from lastnight was that the back up lads played the high press well.
On a couple of occasions during the game he stopped and stretched and winced a bit. He was a little lame as he went off but he sat on the bench and I couldn't see any evidence of an ice pack, albeit from behind the goal. Athletes often have to play through a little pain, especially after a serious injury and it could also be linked with fatigue, given the length of his absence. He also returned to the pitch to clap the fans after the other players had left. He seemed in good spirits then.
Unbelievable! It would be interesting to hear what a psychologist would make of people who do this. Clearly there's a whole range of issues going on! I wonder if its down to people spending so much time playing computer games they can't bear to experience life unless through a screen? Who knows. Very sad whatever it is
I know fans from other clubs stream games to private Facebook feeds and twitch streams. Could we'll be this. May make a few quid out of it if they charge people to be part of these groups.
To be fair they did come up with some original stuff too... 4-4-2...I like Deeney...Gray's a good finisher (made me chuckle)...High turnover of players...Helped that they had a pre-season with the same manager for a change. The last point is something that was asked to Deeney post-Palace, although they seem to forget that we have started well for the last few seasons, despite bringing new managers in! I genuinely find it baffling how little research these people do.
I'll give it a shot. Gomes - 6 Did what he had to well and will rarely have a quieter evening in goal. Made 1 smart if expected save to his left with 5-10 minutes to go but was also caught out by one of their players dinking it over him on the edge of his box, though it didn't have much power on it. Mapps covered it. Distribution was decent, kicks usually found their man and I've missed his throws. Prodl - 6.5 Solid effort, didn't do much wrong. Reading attack didn't particularly stretch him and won a good amount in the air. Mariappa - 7 Solid evening for Mapps, did what you expected of him. Didn't look in trouble when defending. Wilmot - 7.5 Pick of the bunch with his passing and defending. Made some crisp passes to aid fast attacks but not afraid to put his foot in and win the ball. Navarro - 6.5 Was a good option offensively to keep our width and managed his defensive duties reasonably well. Masina - 7.5 Holebas has to watch out; Masina will be ready to step in if his level drops. Better of the 2 full backs and was integral to our 1st goal. Chalobah - 6.5 Looked a little of the pace to me which was understandable. Grew into the game and was controlling the tempo after 10 or so minutes after some loose touches and passes early on. Linked up nicely with Masina and Success for the goal. Taken off with cramp, so therefore he won't be back til October 2020 with our medical department. Showed his appreciation to us at the end after the game. Quina - 8 An absolute starlet. Extremely tricky, technically superb and capped it off with a Worldie. Very happy to take on his man (Or men) and make something happen. Energetic performance. Sema - 6 Looked dangerous early on, but was trying too hard to put in crosses and attacking moves. Will have better showings but certainly a good option to have off the bench as we've seen and to have in the squad. Femenia - 6.5 Had a quiet first half, didn't influence much nor really involved. 2nd half he was a lot more involved and put in some decent crosses. Distinctly average. Success - 8 Deserves a starting spot against Spurs. Won most of his headers and take on's, never stopped running and was an utter menace to the Reading defence. The player we expected to sign back in 2016 and long may it continue. SUBS: Okaka - 6.5 Looked like a player coming back from injury. Wasn't as dynamic nor as influential as Success. If he's playing against Everton or Liverpool I'm sure he'd have scored, as is tradition with him. Doucoure - 6.5 Had a 10 minute run about, we know what to expect and he did exactly that. Hughes - N/A Not enough time to do much, but didn't do anything wrong in that time. Overall a good evening and just what we needed as fans and players alike. Quina, Success and Wilmot are the players who would have Gracia food for thought.
That's the problem though, they spent about 20 minutes on Newcastle and about 4 minutes on us because they just didn't know what to say except the usual. I was half expecting them to say we'll be stronger when last year's player of season, Amrabat returns.
I'm normally a 'glass half full' kind of monotreme and I try to always give Watford the benefit of the doubt. But last night was a disgrace. The players were poor, the fans were poor and Javi seemed to lose the plot. If he last till Christmas I'll be absolutely amazed. Gomes showed he is far far past it (and has been for about 5 years). Quina and Wilmot will never make it at this level, so why play them? And the rest were a collective shambles, especially Chalobah. Never been so ashamed to be a Watford fan.
