https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?59692-Other-games-thread#.WtJHSlnTU0M Had a peek on the Saints forum, they seem as gutted as us about the last minute winner
Glad I went shopping. Just pathetic. Looking forward to more gutless performances against Palace, United, Newcastle and Spurs. Really relying on Southampton and Stoke getting themselves relegated.
Southampton have 5 games left. They have to win 3 to match us. Stoke also have 5 games to play. They need 3 wins and 1 draw to match us. It’s possible one of these sides could do that, but both of them is a stretch I think. We still have the joker in Brighton’s horrendous run-in. I’m hoping Stoke lose at West Ham then that will probably put us out of their reach. One more Saints defeat will probably do that also. I’m not even considering the ultimate impossibly of Watford actually beating someone, but if we do that then we are safe for sure.
Bournemouth fans are getting quite excited at the thought of relegating their massive rivals along the coast. Lets hope Leicester want to get one over Southampton for their manager but they are a bit hit and miss- at home probably ought to win though. Southampton and Stoke will have to go for wins which will leave them open at the back of course.
Doubt we'll go down this season, but we are certainly sleep-walking into relegation next-season though.
The good news is we said that last season and the season before and we will hopefully be saying it next season!
Do the players fear Santa Clause or the Christmas football banshee or something? December seems a time of year they freeze. Pun intended.
Imagine if we had a terrible start for a change next season. Like Palace this season. If things planned out like they normally do from December we’d be having another crack at the record low points total I think.
If Palace sell Zaha during the summer, they could be in trouble next season. The difference he makes to them is incredible, and the stats back it up. They stayed up this season due to their victory at Vicarage Road (I've gone for past tense due to my confidence with this statement).
Can anyone actually see our team being up for it against Palace next week? Woy will have Palace jeed up in the dressing room, JG will just smile at ours and say never mind if you lose, football has been cruel to us so far. There is just no way we will beat them. Sorry state of affairs.
Trouble is on current form I agree. Even if we go ahead, are we really in the mind set to keep the lead? Or his Holebas going to play volleyball again?
Nope, no chance. As Hodgson will likely have a plan to win the game. Our 'coach' will hope to play until the other team makes a mistake and if not, draw. Our only hope is that the players play in spite of him, but sending out this side with one up front and no pace anywhere isn't going to help them.
I wonder what odds you'd have got back in August for Stoke, Soton and Brom being the three relegated clubs? Highly unusual that at least one newly promoted club doesn't go straight back down. And I wonder in the PL era if a club's ever been relegated who finished 8th or higher the season before?
I think it just goes to show Malts that at the current time the difference in quality from about Everton down to mid the Championship is now very negligible. The bottom half of the league would not find it easy at all going straight back up if they dropped down a division, this includes us of course. Just look at Hull, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Norwich, Villa etc as recently relegated clubs.
Agreed. Look at Bolton. a well established once prem club now on the verge of going back into league one. Lots of ex Prem clubs have found it hard. Coventry the biggest of them.
There's probably been others but Ipswich always stand out for me. Finished 5th in 2001 straight after promotion. Then relegated the following season in 18th.
I think being in the Wafer Cup hindered them? Man City and as ever,Spurs are supposed to be interested. You would imagine he would leave now as he seems more mature and consistent in his decision making than when he went to Man Utd. Palace have dallied with relegation in all but one of their seasons in the PL so it may well catch up with them next season. As long as it's not us I don't give a hoot.
We are in a relegation battle. The worrying thing is that most if our rivals know they are fighting for their lives, whilst we mindlessly coast along with our fans and players completely complacent.
I can just see us losing the next three matches and still be safe, and not needing to get anything at Manure, then win there. That would be typical Watford. By the way, still in Huddersfield, in Cherry Tree Wetherspoons. Sorry we lost yesterday, but a small consolation, it might help keep them up, and nice place to come back to next season.
The way it's going Man United are going to need to beat us on the final day to be sure of 2nd. Typical.
Let's all hope West Brom pull off a miracle and stay up because if they do it means we are safe (they can only get 36 points)
Have to agree. But I think Hodgson must take a huge chunk of the credit - their boat wasn't rocking when he took over, it was pretty much beneath the waves.
Hope they don't, otherwise we won't be able to sign their entire team as people want and we'll be left with nothing.
