Don't agree Gray should be out of the team if its a choice between him and Deeney. We won the last 2 games and he scored in one of those despite his shortcomings. Judging him against the 2nd best team in the league is daft, its just a knee jerk reaction to a loss. Prodl for one wasnt at it first half and we went 3-0 down. We had too much to do after that. And most know Im not a fan of 3 at the back with those calibre of defenders, especially against the 'top sides'.
Watford defense is so poor... New signings in January please... CB priority, mariappa and prodl are not good enough...
I wouldn't describe him as poor but if he could time a header he'd have more than doubled his goal tally for the season so far.
Very harsh on Prodl ... Unfortunately Mapps (excellent defender as he is) has not enough pace to go forward as deep as he does and it left everyone else chasing at the back far too much; against less pace and prowess it's not such a problem. Utd won amd will get all the credit but in reality most of the sublime play was ours. I'm happy with that...... .... for now!
Those goals were nothing to do with us playing attacking football. They were two cracking shots from 20 and 25 yards, and a mistake from Prodl jumping in. Then, even their "break away" goal, Lingard was surrounded by four defenders. We have to play that way as our main attacker is just not good enough and everyone else has to get up there to chip in with goals.
Just one of those games. They weren't in it at all until Prodl went diving in for a ball he was never going to get, letting them attack us whilst we were out of shape and Young hit a wonder goal. That gave them a massive confidence boost and then we conceded another soon after and were shell shocked for about 50 minutes. Decent late rally but all a bit huff and puff, stick it in the mixer. Quite how Rojo didn't get a second yellow is beyond me. Shame that Hughes was injured but Pereyra looked good when he came on. First real test for a couple of our better players - Doucouré and Richarlison have been poor the last couple of games. Be interesting to see how they respond. Richarlison's been playing for a lot longer due to the Brazilian season, might need resting a bit over the December fixtures.
Defence cost us there, we were excellent first 20 mins. Think our midfield bossed them. Although Cleverley had poor moments, maybe he was trying too hard. Doccoure was excellent. Richarlison did not have a good game but it's all part of the growth. He never shied away. Mariappa shouldn't be a regular starter. All the play was coming down his side. Prodl very rusty. Initial thought was Gomes should've done better for the free kick. At 3-2, the whole Vic was on it's feet and I had no doubt we'd grab the equaliser then Lingard turned into bloody Messi!? No idea where that came from he's usually sh*t! Lukaku is rubbish. Disappointed for Hughes, typical Watford luck. Pereyra looked neat though. Carrillo is naff. Gray is naff. Deeney changed the and that's slowly becoming his forte. Can't work out if it's the worst or most perfect time to play Spurs..
Doucoure had a poor spell in first half, but he didnt give away a goal or anything. I thought he was good for the rest of the game.
They weren't poor at all, give them some credit it was Utd we were playing and they haven't been so good for years.
Which point are you questioning, that our open attacking football leaves us vulnerable to conceeding goals, or that they (Utd) finished all of their chances very well tonight? I don’t think either are in dispute are they?
Let in 4, could have been more but still enjoying this season. Lovely possession stats but don't mean sh*t. That Gray fella looks alright!
I actually really like Prodl but he was pretty awful today. I think the defensive mistakes are (hopefully) down to him being rusty but it did cost us. I am worried about his distribution though, it was very poor and at times invited pressure.
Ashley was just doing his job which he did very well and if he was getting stick you got your answer. Next time STFU please!
Well there should be some cracking pictures from iamahornet tomorrow as his drone was flying above the cemetery the whole time I was stuck on Occupation Road, (which was for bl**dy ever). Surprised at United time wasting at 3-0 up, then we go and score 2 and I got it!
If only we could combine both QSF's defensive structure with Marco's offensive tactics, we'd have won that #SignUpQSF4AssistantCoachNow!
Despite losing, I enjoyed our Deeney inspired mini comeback, and credit to United, their goals were excellent and they defensive shape was very impressive in the first half, where despite all our possession we barely had a sniff. I really like 'cameo' Deeney where he can come on for 25 minutes and give it his absolute all, it's just a shame that Gray doesn't seem to carry a similar level of threat for the other 65 minutes currently. I really hope he comes good, but I'm beginning to worry a bit that in a team that relies on a lot of precision passing, with his first touch he isn't going to work in the long run.
We were good and consistent with all the good stuff we've played this season. We played nice football in possession and harried when they had the ball. We created but were up against a well organised defence and there's no way anyone could have predicted Lindelof would play well. We were unlucky to come up against clinical opposition and in particular that Quisling Young. But even at 3-0 I felt we were playing well and I like how we stuck to our philosophy and continued to attack. Gutted with the result as really excited about this one prematch but still happy and confident with the Horns.
Thought Carrillo looked decent enough when he came on, some of his deliveries into the box could have been better though. Agree that Prodl looked off the pace.
Also: Cleverley should've taken Lingard out. He should never have got past Mariappa either. @NathWFC How do you feel about Ashley Young now? Still think he's sh*t?
Doucoure was excellent in my opinion. Love watching him play. Class act and no doubt big bucks offers are on the way....
We desperately need a defender with decent distribution. We started well but couldn’t put them to the sword. From my position, the final tackle for the free kick was not actually a foul, and the ball should have been moved another ten yards back. We went at them, caused them problems and did our best with 10 men. We looked much better when we brought a striker on.
Just my opinion, I accept I'm in the minority (possibly a minority of one!). He was repeatedly caught the wrong side of runners in the first half and chose the wrong option on quite a few attacks that stopped them dead. He improved in the second half when we had our spell of pressure. Maybe I'm just judging him too harshly as his standards are so high...
