Park should have got some minutes I think as he's a bit different to Deeney and Ranegie. Ranegie is our player though and managed his first 90 mins for the club, shouldn't people be more happy about that than Park not playing?
Adele is getting ready to perform a song about our dwindling play off hopes. I'm more disappointed about our approach to the game tonight, than the actual result. As Zola found out last year, teams down the bottom of the table mustn't be taken lightly, but we could/should have been more positive in the way we went about things.
Ranegie played today for the first time. 90 minutes likely to be too much, so why not Park for the last 15?
Anyone who can defend that absolute shower tonight either didn't go or long for the good old days where we play long ball football and look longingly up the table wishing it was us.
Just out of interest , anyone know what the record for most 0-0s in a season is ? Could be something to aim for.
As soon as relegation is mathematically impossible, we need to start working on things for next season. We have quality footballers whose confidence is completely shot, and this whole consolidation period is only making things worse.
I think it's time for people to look at the bigger picture. I've read plenty of knee-jerk reaction on here, but Sannino's results have been very good. Of course not beating the side at the bottom of the league is disappointing, but it's hardly the end of the world. Playoffs are a stretch even for an optimist, but you've got to judge the sequence of results in its entirety. We've picked up 17 points from 11 games and have kept 6 clean sheets. We only kept 14 clean sheets in 66 games under Zola. We have improved and are a hard team to beat. If you don't concede you don't lose, and always have a shout of winning, such as Birmingham and Middlesbrough proved. Don't forget we were without many of our more creative players tonight like Forestieri, Abdi and even McGugan. Ok....right now it's quite hard work watching us, but a firm foundation has to be built before the next part can be added. This takes time, you only have to look at the East Stand to understand where we are right now. Building something strong, slow and steady. There is no fast track to success.
http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...fected_our_second_half_display__says_Sannino/ Beppe concedes the players should have given a little bit more for the fans who travelled but they were tired and his "... main concern is not about creating chances". Yawn. Wake me up next season. This has to be the most insipid uninspiring Watford side I've seen since Vialli's season and if we hadn't have hit the ground running in August and September we would be well in the relegation battle.
Absolutely you have to be optimistic about things. But it doesn't take a genius to work out that the danger that was Watford last season, has been completely extinguished now. Not from the manager change but I fear from the teams outcomes of last season. To be honest even after the first defeat to Blackpool, after missing the pen and completely dominating a team so much that it was like a dog fight between a ****su and a bull dog (sorry Deeney) but then failing to score and losing because of weak challenges to Tom Ince.. It kind of sums up where we are now and have been throughout the course of this year. Lets face facts we have a PO final defeat hangover, like most pundits declared we would have. I accept it. As for the building project, I really hope so. I look to the SW corner as a prehistoric relic of yesteryear and pray that we dont ever see another occurrence of what can happen at Watford.
Praying we don't use 3-5-2 long-term. I'm really struggling to see how it'll work. As a defend & counter system it's OK, but nothing more. When's the last time we pinned a team back & passed it well? Depressing, really. Sannino came in to a complete mess, though, so it's not a major criticism of him. It will be if it continues for the foreseeable, though.
If we win on Saturday we will have gone through February unbeaten with 14 out of 18 points and chance of Sannino winning manager of the month. Not exactly a relegation battle.
Uninspiring dull football. It's like the football we played back in the 90s but without any of the passion, belief, or heros on the pitch. We created very little in the first half and absolutely nothing in the second half. I know we were spoiled last season with total football, but this is such a colossal swing in the other direction and I really don't believe this is the answer. I don't want to go to the trouble of travelling to Yeovil to watch that style of football. Something needs to give and it's the tactics. We know the players can play - so let them play.
I completely agree, it's an outdated system and I don't think it's our future. I do however think, Sannino hasn't really had the time to coach the player systems with the amount of games with had, and he's probably just focused on improving the defence in the system they know best.
Well we had 6 good months last year and for that we're better than we ever were? In context of pre Pozzo this is a good season. We will get promoted under Pozzo's eventually, we have no divine right to beat Yeovil just like we had no right to lead the best team in the country for 60 minutes or lead the top team in this league for 93rd minutes.
Watford fans are such whiners. ****ing hell. Yes this season hasn't been what we hoped it would be, but come on. Under Zola we were an absolute mess. Sannino has sorted that mess out and got results, without that we could be dangerously close to the bottom. This season is about building for next year now.
We were 1 point away from promotion last season. 1 point. Is it really necessary to change our tactics so drastically to finish in the top 2? I want Beppe to succeed, but I do hope this style of play is just a short-term thing.
Did you watch any of our games under Zola this season? Our style of play was pretty much dependant upon Vydra and abdi... So yes, a change in style is needed.
It is when you lose your best holding player, your best attacking midfielder and your only striker with pace... Add in to the mix that our best CB last year is playing crap and its hard to compare last years team to this years team
Positives from tonight. 1. I ticked off a new ground 2. I had decent fish and chips before the game. 3. Home before midnight.
I don't care if they did or not would of liked/would like either: 1. Rumours that we were in for them 2. Clarification of why we signed Park to not play him during a game in which we screamed for a goal
Initially I was very angry at not beating the worst team in the league and a side that are dead certain to be relegated. Having time to reflect I don't think a point is that much of a bad thing. The pitch was cearly heavy and that suited Yeovil's physical and more direct tactics more than Watford's passing game. Like most people have mentioned it wouldv'e made more sense to put Park on for Ranegie as MR has not played first team football in ages. It is a shame Forestieri was injures because he has been playing great recently and I think he would have caused their defence a lot of problems.
It was so negative. Almunia was time wasting from 55 mins onwards. No ambition to win the game whatsoever. Hooof!
First half was ok, second half wasn't good at all. Set up completely for the draw and if it wasn't for a good save by Almunia from Hayter we would have lost that. Didn't create a thing in the second half and the football we attempted wasn't good, admittedly on a pitch that did cut up a lot. Saying that, the referee once again missed an absolute stonewaller of a penalty in injury time (absolutely no idea how the linesman didn't see it as he had a clear view). Looked solid enough at the back but for me Ekstrand was bullied too easily by Miller and Battochio was once again pretty poor. Do hope Yeovil stay up mind, would much prefer to go there every year than a soulless 21st century stadium like the KP!
We went for a point. We got a point. Yeovil fans chanted "boring Watford" They were right. Opportunity lost. Sannino needs to change gear now he has sorted defence and we are pretty much clear of relegation. Is he capable or does he need a good attacking coach? Another 15 games like this I could not take.
Just got back from Yeovil. Not read the other comments, but for me, it was absolute ****e. If I didn't know who was who, I'd have struggled to work out which team was bottom of the league. We are dull, clueless, and will go nowhere with this bunch of players and Sannino in charge. Yeovil are bottom for a reason - they are crap. Yet they have taken 4 points from us this season. Still that's another away ground ticked off the list. Plus the Arrow was a decent pub with good reasonably priced food.
First half was okay and Yeovil looked very nervy and shaky but we never piled the pressure on. We faffed about rather than shoot - with the exception of Merkel who was mainly high wide and mighty. Ekstrand passed mainly to Yeovil. Murray was half asleep when he came on and did the same. Anya still looks tired or carrying an injury to me. Almunia saved us again. I like Cassetti in the centre. Ranegie needs to learn to move off the ball to create space for others. It was 100% handball for a penalty - even Gary Johnson admitted as much on BBC Somerset after the match. We're not going down and not a snowballs chance in heck of promotion. Agree with the guy above that Blackpool away set the tone. In fact, I don't think they ever got over throwing away a 2-0 lead to Norwich to lose. Toszer is quality. Just needs another of his ilk alongside. Would be lovely to be able to swap Anya over with another wing back during the games to disrupt the opposition. Unsure how Mcgugan would get back int this side as he won't suit the style of play - wont tackle and can't press.
Usually happy with any point away from home, but slightly disappointed with this one. Still a game we could easily have lost in December and another clean sheet. Roll on Bolton
