Shame to see him leave but he does seem to be quite far down in the pecking order espically with Avinel looking like hes really coming through.

I've got a feeling we may come to regret it! After all we've put so much effort in to helping him out/though injury etc etc.

Should Big Dan or Jay go then we could be a bit thin on the ground at the back....

A bit surprised by this, but totally understandable. I hope this means we're still trying to sign Rajo Piiroja.

Not enough money for him at this time of transfer market inflation, but i suppose we don't need money, and it gives him a chance for first team football. And although its sad to see him go it's good that he'll get the action he deserves.

It's these empathetic qualities of mine that would make me a rubbish manager!

In Aidy's comments it seems that Carlsile wanted to be playing first team football but wasnt guarenteed it here and Aidy liked Carlisle too much as a person to let him down. So I think its more about letting him go for Carlsile's sake.

200k? Thats a pathetic amount to be honest, and id be looking out for 500-750k plus for him. He is a good central defender, who i thought had a future for us.

    A shame to lose him.

Shame to see him go. I rated him. Have him over ****** Jackson and he was brought for his communcation which Carlisle can do just a better job.

I cant see Shittu or DeMerit being allowed to leave now.

A future? He's 28 and quite injury prone. And in the last year of his contract, so a fee of much above £200k was never on the cards.

I echo these sentiments. Big, powerful and a decent championship CH. Burnley have got a bargain.

    Carlisle's gone!

    from watfordfc.com

    CARLISLE DEPARTS

CLARKE Carlisle has today (Thursday) left Vicarage Road for £250,000 and signed for Steve Cotterill's Burnley on a three-year deal.

The 27-yeard-old centre half, who is in the last year of his contract at Vicarage Road, has returned to his native north west where he started his career with Blackpool.

The ex-QPR man joined the Golden Boys in 2005 and has started 38 games under the leadership of Aidy Boothroyd, his opportunities were cruelly restricted last season due to a rare thigh injury he picked up towards the end of the 2005/06 season.

Seems a strange one but I guess he wants football and came from the North I think?

We have a couple of decent young defenders but Carlisle is better than Jackson and quicker than Shittu.

    200K is nothing...

    Shame.

We may miss his goals at corners to be honest.

Really good bloke hope he does well.

Surprised really, obviously Aidy wasn't going to play him.

    Shittu stays then.

Good bit of business from Burnley today. Sell one average Championship defender for £1.2m and buy a good one of the same age for £250k.

Yes, a future. If he stays injury free, he could have played another 5 years for us. I call that a future.
Hes a big strong defender, who we should have got more money out of. Carlisle was a nice guy apparently, i wish him luck at Burnley (accept against us ;))

And you really think that'll happen given that he's just had the best part of a year out with a mysterious rare thigh injury?

£250k may seem like a small sum, but seriously - he's a 27-year-old injury prone center back with just 10 months left in his contract and he was currently our third or fourth choice. He doesn't want to stay at a club were he's not guaranteed a place in the first team. £250k is perfectly acceptable, it's a good deal for WFC, it's a good deal for Burnley and a good deal for Clarke. Now let's move on.

And please sign Rajo Piiroja, he's only going to cost about £1.5M and he's quality.

Phew. He has looked a liability everytime he has played since the second half of our promotion season. He is slow and his positioning is awful.

He might be a nice bloke, but he can't cut it for us on the pitch anymore and I was getting worried that he might be close to a first-team place.

That should be an easy 6 points against Burnley this season.

Yeah a bit of a shock especially after he rejected Plymuff last month. I'm not too bothered about the price as we don't need the money. I guess this shows that Big Dan is staying... :party3:

The reason Clarke has been let go so cheaply is because he picked up a nasty smell while on loan to Luton.

Aidy has given him enough time to get rid of it, but despite some brutal scrubbing with bleach and brillo pads, it still lingers.

    It's Burnleys problem now.

How will they distinguish the Luton smell from the background stench of Burnley?

    Thanks for the memories

    Thanks Clarke,

For all your efforts - just hope you don`t have to actually live in Burnley - `what a hole`.

Best of luck for the future.
