Being reported as £15 million up front, rising to £21 million in add ons. A sell-on clause inserted. And @Burnsy best comment of the day. Nice one!
Seems like we got a pretty chunky fee for him, so the best outcome for all involved here. Good luck to him!
Does an initial £15m represent a chunky fee? I'm not quite sure - feels like given the hype and apparent mega interest from across Europe, that only reaching £21m if all kinds of add-ons are met is a bit of a mug-off. Perhaps the sell-on is what negates that, somewhat.
Decent money for a player who may or may not come good, the classic kind of Walcott to Arsenal type signing from back in the day, pay a big fee for the potential and if it pays off you’ll treble your money or have a very good player on your hands. The other positive for us is that championship fees seem to have gone a bit silly now and broken through a bit of a glass ceiling, not long ago £30m was about the limit for players who absolutely tore up the league, now you can seemingly get close to that for players who have shown occasional glimpses of talent. Of course as football fans and fans of Watford, that’s only going to benefit us if any of the money from selling these type of players gets spent on our football club.
So farewell then Asp, The fee has made some of us gasp. You are probably on a nice little earner. Signing today, for Girona. EJ Thribb aged 17 & 3/4. Available for weddings, funerals, working men's clubs and Bah Mitzvahs. Contact Molly Rush on St Mary Mead 4291.
IF and it’s a big if, Levanthal’s information is right then we’ve lost out on the best part of €10m euros from the Rennes deal. Let’s hope he just has the wrong info
€25m always seemed very toppy, and more than likely the result of agents spreading figures around rather than what a club was actually willing and able to pay for him. The proof is in the pudding in that Rennes never paid it.
If it’s like us and Udinese Ginora will just sell him to City for an amount means no sell on clause is paid.
To be clear I had information from the club that the Rennes deal was €25m upfront not including add ons etc. I was also told that the Girona deal was more like €30m about 3 days ago
While it's true that if Girona moved a player to City they'd try and do so in a way which means there basically wouldn't be a sell-on fee applicable, Asprilla is not going to move to City so there's no point in worrying about it.
...one week at Citeh, then they sell him on to whoever really wants him thus avoiding the sell-on fee.
A young lad from near Bogotá Whom we hoped could go far Flattered to deceive Wanted to leave So we sold him to Girona.
Not sure that is right - we did not have a sell on clause - we only owned 80% so i suspect, although not certain that this is our bit whereas the Rennes price was the 100% - so yes we got stripped but by a bit less than it seems
Farewell Yasser. You have an exciting career ahead of you. I am glad you chose Watford as your platform and I wish you the very best going forward. Your exciting when you get on the ball and I hope your new side can use your talent to take them forward.
Hi. Sorry, haven’t been on here for a while but Sky are reporting the fee to an initial £21m plus add ons. Take that for what it’s worth.
Understand why we sold and why he was ready to move on. However always a bit sad to see a player who was exciting to watch leave. All the best to him in his career.
of course - the difference is that one relates to a % of profit and the other a % of total fee - clearly the Tevez / Mascerano days are over
Seven goals in 81 championship games across two seasons that both ended up as disappointing. He was a bright spark in a poor period for watching Watford. The money certainly has softened the blow of not having him in the starting 11 this season. Will I really miss him. Probably not, just the thought of transactional player trading that k think more of. Buy young, fatten them up sell them on.
Don’t think that tells the whole story, his first season he was in and out of the team, didn’t play the full 90 very often and was a teenager in his first season in Europe, in his second season his output was more than acceptable. Would he, like Kone, have absolutely ripped up the league this year with another year under their belt…maybe, but the reality is that we had to sell, we got good prices for them, and Chak and Kayembe aren’t half doing a good job in their place!
LOL - that Ucko lad has claimed on twitter/podcast that Baah is more exciting to watch than Asprilla 'ever was'. That's some extreme recency bias right there.
