Sky seem to think it's an initial €25m plus add-ons. https://www.skysports.com/transfer-centre "Latest from Sky Sports News' Dharmesh Sheth: Girona have agreed a deal with Watford for midfielder Yaser Asprilla. The fee is understood to be an initial £21.2m (€25m) plus performance-related add-ons. Asprilla is expected to have a medical this week."
I think that's a steal for Girona. Barring a horrific injury, they will make a lot of profit. It's also an outstanding opportunity for him though so best of luck in the Champions League, Yaser
Really? Who are a bigger club that are going to buy him further down the line? The thing I've been confused about with him is that for a supposedly elite talent he often has the first touch of a trampoline. Will such a thing as his basic ball control really improve to the point where a title challenging team in one of the big leagues, for whom possession/ball retention is key, will look at him? Not convinced. I'm a tad surprised he's already managed to get to a club in the CL. It's perhaps helped by a general lack of left-footed attacking players out there.
His goal at home to Norwich was elite ball control - I haven't seen many players capable of that. Not to mention his goal away at Norwich. So basically, Girona need to play against Norwich.
It's one thing to show elite ball control occasionally, it's another to not gift possession to the opposition half the time a simple pass is played to you because your first touch is significantly over-hit.
Interestingly, to check if my recollection/observation is born out by the stats - just check out his "Miscontrols per 90" figure below...
You forget he's been surrounded by, for the most part, utter turd that are on a much lower wavelength than him. In a far better team I see him really developing into a top player.
Again, as per my post above, I don't know what that has to do with his frequent inability to control simple passes?... JP did not have that problem when here for instance - the ball stuck to him like glue.
It's a good point. He is very raw. But there is so much talent there, its clear to see. I'm surprised you're so negative about him tbh.
I like him, and I’m sure he'll go on and be a really good player, but I’m happy with €25m for a player who we’ve been doing just fine without
Exactly this, it's excellent business. Asprilla has a ridiculously high ceiling, but his actual contribution was decent without being spectacular. That said, I hope he delivers on his promise. A good move for all parties which is not something you feel often when it comes to Watford transfer dealings.
I think a lot of people have been very harsh. His output for a 19 year in a relatively poor side last year was very impressive. I think he will go on to bigger and better things (Girona is great stepping stone to do it) and he will be sorely missed. One important aspect in both this and Pedro's move is that neither downed tools and seemed to enjoy playing for the club, maybe from a players perspective it isn't as bad behind the scenes as it was a few years back? We do seem to have fewer mercenaries.
Another photo of Yaser and his agent on a private jet but this time his phone screen is visible I’ve managed to enhance the image, and it looks like a touching farewell to his Watford teammates
Yasser may not have "downed tools" as you say but he's also not committed to staying is he, we will have played 4 competitive matches while he's been swanning about in private jets, touting his arse to the highest bidder. I hope he isn't drawing a wage during this period.
He's 20 and he's only been here two seasons, which are the only properly professional seasons of his career, and for the great majority of which he didn't even regularly manage 90 minutes - it would have been pretty mental if he had thought about starting with any of that.
From the WO. “believed to be worth in excess of £20, with the potential of more to come if clauses are met” Blimey that is a bit cheap isn’t it !?
Yes all completed . https://x.com/WatfordFC/status/1827005390971711928 Good luck to him in Spain and the Champions league .
