7th April 2019. The pinnacle of the Pozzo era. We had just won an all time classic against Thursday's opponents and were off to only our second ever FA Cup final and simultaneously gunning for 7th place plus a European tour. It feels like a waste of a preview to rehash everything that's gone wrong since as that's been done to death elsewhere but what an amazing collapse in just three years.

That game is just one part of an eventful recent history with Jorge Mendes' Wolves. Our first Pozzo promotion season saw a bad tempered but exciting game at Molineux that finished 2-2, goals from peak Vydra-Deeney along with red cards for Tommie Hoban and Bakary Sako for a brutal fingernail assault on Fernando Forestieri. What a kit that black and white number was...

Wolves languished in the Championship for another couple of seasons until they romped to promotion with a host of Portuguese talent funneled their way by Mendes. Of course, this was praised by all and sundry as an innovative model, returning a sleeping giant to their rightful place. Clearly it's much more acceptable to have a super agent who doesn't even have an official role in the club send players and a manager their way than it was to have owners that (at that time at least) smartly used a multi club model...

We met newly promoted Wolves early the following season and put them firmly in their place in a 59 second blast of quality. First, a classic Capoue daisy cutter and then in short order we were slicing through them again as Success (yes, really!), Doucoure, Capoue and Deulofeu combined to put Pereyra in for one of the most aesthetically pleasing goals ever scored. Watch it again here from every angle (TRIGGER WARNING: Do not watch if you are prone to "we're aiming to be the best of the rest" nostalgia):

As an aside, why was the ref such a jobsworth blowing his whistle so furiously about a second into the celebration? He actually shocked Doucoure into thinking it had been disallowed!

Anyway onto this weekend's latest must win game. Have to be honest, their season had completely passed me by and had no idea how they were doing but they're up in 8th, albeit three successive defeats have probably put paid to their hopes of another European tour. The boring but effective Nuno Espiritu Santo has been replaced by Bruno Lage who seems to be doing a good job despite looking like a Portuguese Rodney Trotter.

Desta vez no próximo ano ele vai ser um milionário...
Anyway, they're obviously a lot better than us but at least we're not at home to add to our eight consecutive defeats. They took the points pretty comfortably at the Vic earlier this season due to our standard keystone cops defending. They hadn't actually scored this season until that game but luckily for them their analysts had worked out that big Danny Bachmann loves to hide behind his goal line for crosses so they scored twice from inside the six yard box as he was flailing about in the back of the net.

We'll rightfully be odds on to lose but I saw enough in Samuel Kalu's six minute cameo to convince me that he is going to come in from the cold and fire us to safety with his cheeky smile. The Great Escape starts here! COYH!

P.S. I hate 7.30 kick offs, it's just not an acceptable time for a football game.

They aren’t playing well apparently, fans on the teams back.

Striker not scoring , defending got to pot etc.

    So 1/2-0 Wolves .

It's going to be typical Watford isn't it? We lose narrowly to Arsenal last time out (in scoreline only) and we will probably play like we did at Villa on Thursday, sneak a goal with our only serious attempt on goal with the ball bouncing in off Cucho after Kalu runs from the halfway line, nutmegs two defenders and crashes a thunderbolt of a shot against the bar, which bounces down to a possibly offside Cucho who doesn't even know it hit him and went in. This is then followed by a 3 minute VAR check who draw lines all over the screen like children colouring a picture.

Wolves away is never an easy game - but despite being sliced apart like an apple at OT and still somehow getting a point, our away performances since R&R came in have been better. I do worry about our home form - it's killing our small chances of survival. Get anything here will be a bonus - but you know us, never kick a team when they are down. It's going to be a cold night in the Black Country.

    Wolves 0 Watford 1

I'll take my medication now nurse. :D

Will we win? Use this handy guide to find out!

Is Sarr playing? If no, go to 1. If yes, go to 2.

    1. No.

    2. No.

Got to win either this one or Southampton. Tough order but we need to close the gap to the others before Liverpool away. Think this game is the better chance given their recent form.

4pts from the 2 games to put us remotely back in the mix I think. Tough ask.

Could be worse. Could have been tonight.
At least we can keep reading VoR's messages of positivity for another 24 hrs. 4 or 5 wins in the next 6 games would really put us back in contention.

Usually I’d say we’d win this and Roy will find a way!!

But the negative NELLIES on here will force Cleverly to pass it continuously to the opposition.

2-0 to Wolves. And SHAME ON YOU :mad:

  26. I just went on footballontv.com to see what games were on tonight and saw Leeds Vs villa on Amazon tomorrow so thought I'd watch that. Wondering if it was part of this FPL gameweek I checked the app and low and behold there are 4 games, one of which is us!! I had no idea!!!

  27. Remember that dour 0-0 draw earlier in the season at home vs this lot?

Me neither. It was all but a dour 0-0 draw as no one was going to score in that drab game until we absolutely gifted them 2 goals. Enjoyed that drive home!

Wolves have lost the last 3.

We always gift teams that haven't won/scored for 3+ games a new lease of life and we lose.

We seem to play better away from home and with Wolves looking poorer over the past three games I can only see a home win here.
