Not sure you get to tell people what the forum is for. It’s humour - you don’t find it funny, so what? Get a grip of yourself.

Because I read both sides and the comments directed at the so-called “betwetters” comments seem generally to be tongue in cheek and done with humour. The comments going the other way are not made in the same manner imo.

So you think it’s okay for people to be told they need to cheer up or that their life must be miserable? Tongue in cheek? Seriously?

I think you believe what you want to believe rather than taking a balanced view.

I'm sorry Happy, but are you being serious? This is wildly blinkered at best, biased at worst.

How many times have you commented on my posts on the last couple of weeks? You know, posts that have nothing to do with you?

I’m not biased. I do not particularly agree with one side of the debate over the other, as I stand somewhere in the middle of the two. Absolutely, at times, comments are directed both ways that get a little heated. But, overall, I stick to what I said in my previous post.

I think it's extremely charitable at best to the posters in question to choose to believe that all of them are being made as 'tongue in cheek' and 'done with humour', and yet choose to simultaneously read none of the other side's posts as the same, but further to that I can tell you that they often do not read or feel that way to those they are targeted at, and if we were really going to go into it in a way you'd be right to say was pointless, I'm sure, I could find plenty of tangible examples of posts that are not 'tongue in cheek and done with humour'.

This is also to ignore that the entire 'bedwetter' 'COG' scenario comes entirely from those who started using and popularised the term 'bedwetter' on here as an attack on posters they assigned it to - the counter came later, in response. And, again, no - it was not entirely 'tongue in cheek and in good humour'. That's a crazy, prejudged way to characterise it.

And there you go. I hope I'm not as weird as a grown-up (?) who has posted over 20,000 messages on a football forum. And it would help if you would read more carefully: The bit in bold I neither said nor implied.

They’ve played on the vicarage road pitch and presumably got changed in the dressing room so they must have been in danger of picking up the toxicity and rancidity ( is that the correct term?)

Yes, I had second thoughts about that passage. I was trying to avoid verbosity, but fell between two stools. Mercenary has two slightly different meanings: Being paid to do a job and being paid but actively not caring about the job. I do think there are players who are like the latter; Pereyra was my example. However, I do think players are often put into that category by people who suspect it but don't know it.
I think players can appear to be not trying quite often, when in fact they just can't cope. An example might be Friday night's disaster, when Watford's teamwork broke down badly: In the end players don't make the passes because other players don't make the runs; and players don't make the runs because others don't make the passes. And so on and so on. But it looks bad and uncaring.

Weren't they relegated a few years back simply because Pozzo didn't want to pay the amount required just to stay in the league?

Pozzo may own the womens' team, but he Pozzo clearly doesn't really give a flying **** about the women's team in the same way he doesn't really care about the academy.

I would imagine the culture there is fundamentally different there.

But Gifton is their coach, so there is a bit of non toxicity all round in terms of him being involved and him being appointed in the first place.

Im not sure if as a club we think we can "fix" them, or it just a factor that is not even considered, but year after year we seem to target players who have been known as problems at other clubs.

Tufan, Rose, Dennis, Etebo, Kaboul, Capoue, Deulofeu, Niang, Andre Carrillo, Penaranda - I am sure there are others I am forgetting - but these are all players who have actually been forced out of other clubs because of attitude issues.

Duxbury said we had problem players. Multiple coaches have hinted at similar things, as have pretty reliable sources both on here and in the press. It was by all accounts a big factor in Will Hughes departure.

Whether it is a by product of the model the Pozzos operate or just a coincidence - it is clear there has been a toxic dressing room culture at the club for a number of years and the club are not only refusing to address it, but seem to be recruiting even more of these kind of players.

Ok I get it . So Gifton reduces the overall toxicity with his non toxicity and general chirpiness? Maybe if we appointed Luther and Nigel Gibbs as manager and coach we would reduce the club toxicity to zero .

Considering the chances of another “football club owner in a competitive and expensive league” posting on this football forum is 0%, what did you imply then? If it was just a ridiculous comment then fair enough.

I don’t really use it myself although I get called bedwetter all the time and don’t care. Cog is just shorthand for for someone who refuses to accept criticism of the Pozzo regime. You know who they are.

You need to chill out about it - it’s hardly offensive is it??

Careful. You’ll have HH24 steaming in shortly telling you that if anyone tell you that you must be miserable in your personal life that it’s just light-hearted banter - but if you dare suggest someone is a ‘COG’ that it’s some sort of deep personal attack.

And to think they are actually a mod.

There's got to be a better and less childish way of categorizing posters though ? If COG literally means Cult of Gino and someone who refuses to accept criticism of Gino then clearly there are no COGs on the forum ? No idea what a "bedwetter" is ! Can you be both ?
I think these labels were created as a joke a few years ago now and the few who have run with them all have different interpretations of the insult they think they are throwing, and the recipient has no idea they're the intended target. I doubt anyone on this forum would consider themself in either of those 2 camps. Some are just more forgiving and supportive of the owners than others, some just have greater or lesser expectations of what a par performance would be for owners of the club. Some are more optimistic/pessimistic than others. It's just different shades rather than complete extremes.

Haha this can’t be serious? People getting told to “@@@@ off out of the club”. Being called not real supporters. Then the bile of Little Ross posts (and it’s unfair of me to single him out to be fair)

The thing is I rarely use it until times like this when the club go completely off the rails. More than anything it’s just a time saving device, not an insult. Gino and the club are two separate entities, I support Watford not Gino, yet in times like this you still get fans who are only interested in defending Gino’s decisions rather than their own football club. That’s a bit wordy to write in every single response. It’s just an easy bit of shorthand.

So as Jumbo said, it’s hardly offensive? Not finding a forum joke funny isn’t the same as being offended.

Frankly, if the COG and Bedwetter thing died out, I wouldn’t care one bit.

But the implication made last night that one side is worse than the other and throw around abuse in the face of ‘tongue-in-cheek’ humour is extremely ignorant of some of the things that are said. And it’s been doubled-down upon.

Obviously the club has spells when it does relatively well and when it does relatively badly. We all know after a win you get the usual ‘tough day for the bedwetters’ from a few of the usual places. Obviously at the moment we’re in a bad way so you’re going to get more of the opposite. If you don’t like it just put those who say it on mute, just remember to do the same when we finally win a few games. At the end of the day it’s not rude or discriminatory in either case is it.

It’s also worth reminding yourself of the title of this particular thread and asking yourself exactly what type of discussion are you hoping/expecting to find within it?

One of the guys on the Watford Buzz podcast (sorry have to listen to something in between BWO episodes) said he had heard as much from a number of places.

As with all these things they could be talking out of their arse, and Will Hughes is hardly going to step up and say it but as a podcast they are normally pretty balanced on stuff, and given how things ended up, I don't see any reason not to believe them.
