Yes, that was a grim winter's game. Ray Lewington offered to resign after that one. That and the 1-4 loss at home to Millwall on New Years Day under Vialli when he blamed the fans for the result. They were dark days. Some of the total dross served up by Lee and Perryman wasn't far behind.
Ah yeah, didn’t **** stain get confused as we applauded Neil Harris for his goal and thought we’d turned on him? Idiot.
At half time I thought we were unlucky to be loosing. Palace were very non descript and we weren't playing too badly, had got back into the game and despite conceading the second thought there was enough there that we could have got something out of it in the second half. Then the second half started and we just never got going before eventually falling apart. Its not like palace were any good, they weren't particularly, but they played with an energy & press we were severely lacking. That second half was as bad as the second half performance against Norwich, if not worse. I really hope thats the last we see of this bloody 4-3-3 we keep playing. It didnt work under the last manager and all the failings of it are still there. The midfield are sitting far too deep, theres little movement off the ball and virtually no link up play at times. No wonder we conceed so many goals, theres no out ball and we are totally incapable of retaining possession. Roy is looking increasingly like a bad appointment. We're chasing the game, its clearly not working and Roy makes no attempt to change it. A couple of like for like subs and thats it. We need points, so what does he do - takes Cleverly off for another DM while leaving an attack minded midfielder/winger on the bench. If Kalu isnt fit enough to contribute then he shouldnt be on the bench. Speaking of the bench, why did we have so many defensive players on it at home against a very beatable side in a game we really needed to get something from? 9 subs names, 5 of them defenders, a goalie, a DM and a winger who clearly has less chance of playing in the premier league then I do. Defensively we have gone backwards under Roy , especially at home where we are looking even more lack luster. Not that the back four can be blamed, theres little in front of them. King continues to retain his starting spot despite having offered nothing to warrant it We're as good as down. I would start giving the fringe players some game time, recall Hungbo & Zink and start building for next season. We have enough winnable games left to stay up but I look at some of our recent winnable games such as Norwich and tonight and just cant see it under this manager.
Hadn't Neil Harris just come back after his cancer treatment too. Someone who would give everything for the cause.
It’s just the modern way I guess but we aren't very good at it as our defenders are slow and need endless touches treating the ball like a hot potato. But surely that isn't the style of Hodgson ? Yes be defensive and compact - well try to be but at least look like going forward with pace etc . Did Sarr get in behind their defence at all or Dennis run at it 2nd half ? Almost as if we were settling for a 2-1 defeat then forgot Zaha was playing so let him run riot.
Whose bright idea was it to sign a #1 striker who’s scored just 9 goals in 52 appearances over the last 3 seasons? Last time we came up Deeney had banged in 21 the previous season alone. Even Blind Freddie can see King was, is and will be utter *****. God knows what that makes Fletcher given he can’t even get in the side.
I think I speak for most Watford fans when I say that was not the outcome I wanted to see. We just are so bad at home, it's pretty bizarre.
In the championship, Deeney didn’t exactly set the PL alight scoring wise, especially if you take away his 5+ penalties a season.
Exactly, why should I spend £100 + coming all the way down to Watford with my lad to watch to watch dross like last night when for a tenner I can go and see the local non league team give their all and leave blood on the pitch whilst being paid £20 a week?
First of all I have to say I was devastated by last nights result and was going to come on here and really vent my spleen, however I decided to watch the game before doing so. I have just watched my recording of the game that was broadcast at 2am on Sky and I have come straight on here to give you my thoughts. I have not even read any of the thoughts you guys have had to say about the match so I may well be repeat what some of you have said. So here goes: - Without a doubt Palace were the better side on the night, but we were not as bad as the score line might suggest as IMO the main difference between the two teams was "finishing" but not a lot else. They were clinical and scored three fantastic goals, and got lucky with the now customary deflected goal we concede. As for our performance, believe it or not we actually had more shots than they did throughout the game, but only one was on target compared to their five, and therein the problem lies. We create our fair share of chances, but for some reason we seem to have lost our cutting edge of late. As for the defence despite conceding four goals they did not play that badly, as it was more down to Palace's clinical finishing rather than our bad defending that made the difference. I have to admit my faith in us getting out of the **** we are in took a severe dent last night, but I am not prepared to give up on us just yet as I believe we do have what it takes to survive and we still have enough winnable games to do that. Admittedly we have already missed out a fair few of our possible winnable games, but fortunately there are still enough left for us to get the points we need. I have to believe that we can still survive and that our luck will turn soon, and IF it does.... THE 'ORNS WILL BE STAYING UP OK now my thoughts on the players: - Foster - Ben cannot be faulted for any of the goals IMO therefore despite conceding four he still had a decent game. Kiko - Not good but not bad, and at last his set pieces especially the in swingers from the left were actually very good. Cathcart - Still looked solid and had a decent game. Samir - A bit dodgy on a couple of occasions last night, but overall did OK. Kamara - Not his best game for us, but still managed to keep Olise on a leash for most of the game. Sissoko - His best game in a while and that is not just because he scored, he just seemed better all round last night. Louza - He looked classy at times last night and possibly out MOTM. Cleverly - A bit anonymous last night, maybe Kayembe should return. Sarr - In and out of the game last night, but that is just him lethargic one moment and brilliant the next. King - His usual Duracell Bunny display, hope he is not injured to badly, but maybe this is a chance to see how we do without him. Dennis - He missed a real sitter that could have changed the outcome last night, but gave another decent performance otherwise. Cucho - Looked lively and hopefully he will now get a run in the team, he deserves a chance IMO. Keyembe - A steady job and as I said earlier maybe he should replace Cleverly. A very bad day at the office all in all, but we aint finished yet... COME ON U GOLDEN BOYS YOU CAN DO THIS PS The 1881 were more like our twelfth man last night but the stands looked very empty.
VOR You sent me a pm about tickets. For some reason I was unable to reply. As previously stated I will not be attending again until I receive a reply from Mr Pozzo or a change in procedure. I do think the more empty seats the better so I withdraw the offer of my ticket. I can't think that anyone would enjoy it at present so look on it as an act of mercy! IBB in a white wine sauce with shallots, green beans and a pickled egg.
“We’ve learned the lessons from our last relegation”. So what lessons would that be? That maybe it’s not a good idea to start a season with a Head Coach you have doubts about, replace them after a few weeks and then spend the rest of the season making increasing more bizarre appointments? That maybe it’s not a good idea to waste valuable transfers in January by signing players not guaranteed a starting place, or in one case not even guaranteed an appearance? That maybe not communicating regularly with your fan base and giving them the impression that you’re not taking them with you on the great PL adventure is not a good idea? That maybe money might be spent better on attracting a decent Head Coach rather than using it to constantly pay off ones you’ve recruited from the unemployment pile? And most importantly, that maybe it’s not a good idea to make bland statements to make yourselves look good, only to then do the opposite and repeat the same mistakes just a year later. Sacking the coach before the second international break. Sacking his replacement under 15 matches later. Not strengthening the defence in summer. Wasting some of the January window. Barely addressing the fans. 2019-20. 2021-22. Lessons learned, my arse.
Much better that we develop young talent like Rose, Kucka and Tufan so that we can profit from their sales.
Sissoko after a winnable game at home to Norwich Sissoko after a winnable game at home to Palace just a month later and under a new manager What a rancid group of players. They haven't got the mentality to turn up for must-win games or even put two decent performances together. Pathetic bunch, I'm ******* sick of them.
I agree with some of what you say, but I have not given up yet and still think if our luck changes we can still stay up.
Down and out for this season. Half full stadium and a lack of atmosphere will give these overpaid jokers something to blame for their rancid attempts at football.
Having watched the highlights,I have to comment on the stunning cowardice of one Kiko Femenia. Turns his back goal 1, deflects off him. Jumps out the way of the cross for goal 2. Can’t mark Zaha goal 3. Sissoko comes to help him mark Zaha and they still concede goal 4. Every goal was partly his fault (or responsibility given the assist)
“We certainly weren’t inferior in terms of our build-up play in between the two penalty boxes. The major difference was what Palace did when they were in and around our penalty area and what we did,” was Hodgson’s view. “That’s the difference between a team that is doing well and heading towards the top of the table and a team that is trying to get out of the bottom three.” This guy is an utter ******* clown, Palace had small relegation fears before the game! Heading towards the top of what table?! Get this dinosaur out my club.
Yeah he was brilliant in the Champo so deserved another season of failing to do his job at the top level for us.
