[LOANED OUT] Vakoun Bayo

I heard that Forest Green got annoyed with him last season as he kept flying over to Belgium to keep tabs on Bayo, just in case he got a job at a club with £5m burning a hole in their pocket. Was a transfer a long time in the making for Rob.

It's all incredibly suspicious with hindsight. The fact Edwards dragged that murky agent Mogi Bayat into the picture too just makes it all the worse. Poor kindly Gino probably didn't see it coming.

Simply separating Bayo the player from Bayat and the deal is nothing of the sort. Just not sure how you got there. I am not a Bayat apologist, and I don’t think they exist on this forum. In fact I will go further and say that I am fully on board with the idea that his collusions with Pozzo have done untold damage to the club.

Maybe Gino's asked Manga to clear this mess up or they'll all end up in gaol?

And his reward for toeing the club line? A knife in the back.

People are saying Bilic should get sacked for speaking out as if being a convenient puppet for the hierarchy gives you any protection.

Bayo is **** and we shouldn't have signed him. We only did because of the murky relationship with Bayat. I don't know what your argument is.

Putting the Bayat link to one side for a moment, surely the thing that should be ringing the biggest alarm bells about this transfer, is that up until we spent £5m on Bayo Gino had never spent a single penny on transfer fees whilst in the championship, not one single dime?

An owner who “comes alive when the transfer market opens” according to Duxbury, an owner who puts player trading ahead of the actual needs of the squad, had somehow kept his hands in his pockets the entire time we’ve been a championship club. Think of all the deals and great players that involved handing over even a modest amount of cash for that we’ve missed out on before. We wouldn’t even pony up £5m for Ivan Toney, who must be worth, what £60m now?

But all of a sudden we splurge £5m on a player everyone can see is a dud. If it’s not dodgy, given previous spending patterns, at the very least it’s surely the sign of an owner who has completely lost his marbles, or probably had some sort of medical trauma that has affected his capacity for logical thought. There is simply no logic to refusing to ever spend money on the championship, and then all of a sudden spending £5m on Bayo.

And re: the benefit of the club to overpaying for Bayat players, didn’t someone on here (or maybe Twitter) unearth a link between Gino and companies owned by Mogi and/or his brother? I’m pretty sure a link was found, which would explain why this is such a regular occurrence and the benefit to the club of doing such deals.

I have no argument anymore. Well done. You have worn me down. Let me know where I can read your manifesto on everything else, Watford or otherwise, so that I can fully agree and tick every box.

I guess which ever way you look at it we have wasted 5 million on a striker deemed not good enough and sent back out on loan .

Will Bayo be back or sold off in the summer ?

Well said and every ounce of truth as well.

Sooner that used car salesman gets out of the club completely the better. I'd rather have Del Boy getting involved over him. Having Manga and Costa in charge of that area certainly shows progress, and in general this window has been pretty active shifting out dross like Bayo and Pollock, with the intention to get rid of Manaj as well. What we have brought in should be just enough for a crediable end season, Kone, Martins, Asabolonga are certainly upgrades on Bayo, Kayembe etc. But we are still very light weight at the back, and our GK situation really needs looking into.

It's the first time we've had PL parachute money in the Championship, without the looming threat of COVID. Pretty straight forward why we're spending money this time.

Despite revenues dropping faster than our cost base, huge loans, no big money sales and our playing assets dropping in value, it is odd that the Board feel confident to spend. They either have commitment on new investment (and maybe don't want to announce for fear of pushing up prices?), or they are betting the ranch.

Sure, we got rid of Deeney and Gray from the last relegation season, but the reality is covid didn’t cost the club that much in comparison to losing PL TV money (our peak match day revenue was £9m, and that was as PL club, not championships, whereas PL prize money is at a minimum £100m). A second consecutive relegation would’ve been far more damaging than covid (realistically just a blip in comparison to losing 55% of PL TV revenue, despite what the picture the club try to paint about Covid) So it is somewhat odd to me they’re splashing more cash this time around than last. You’d have to be an idiot to believe covid was more costly than a second successive relegation, especially when we had three years of PP guaranteed, rather than only two this time around, so maybe they are spending based on new investment.

Of course covid wasn’t a reason for not spending any money on championship players in our first three seasons with Gino as owner, and we had zero debt back then.

    Seems pretty clear cut.

Pozzo beholden to *allegedly* dodgy agent who is rumored to have assisted with financing through Covid/relegation money issues.

Pozzo signs player(s) for an inflated fee(s) who make agent and his brother money in return.

There’s surely no genuine argument that could be made for Bayo being the best option we could have spunked 5 million on, even if there was a slim chance he’d come good.

Given our business this window, it looks like the debt to Bayat has been settled.

Go ahead and tell me then. It's the same as people thinking Sunak is a centrist because he's not as right wing as some of the fascists in the Tory Party. Any sort of balance or alternative viewpoint in a sea of entitlement and tears is seen as eulogising.

It's not 'balance' or offering an 'alternative viewpoint' though. It's deliberately muddying the waters and arguing in bad faith and then falling back on the 'just asking questions' excuse to avoid nailing your colours to the mast.

Trump supporters do it, transphobes do it. It's literally one of the most common, tiresome internet tropes going so even if you started off doing it inadvertently you surely must have realised what you’re doing by now?

It is balance, and it is an alternative viewpoint though. Unfortunately the nature of the forum is those who wish to post without the purified form of Gino-hatred in every word are shouted down by a vocal minority for being 'part of the problem'. There are several who are more critical of Pozzo than I am, but are still killed in threads because they're not the perfect form of bedwetter, or have offered praise to the ownership of the club in the past.

The ownership of Gino Pozzo at this football club is almost the perfect example of a topic where balance is required. A hugely successful period overall, tainted by potentially shady practices and poor decision making.

Can you give any examples as to what you're talking about, because to be honest it's a load of buzz-word nonsense.

On one of the previous pages you were talking about how the Bayo deal wouldn’t look so dodgy if he was an English lower league player and wasn’t a Bayat client. It’s just absolutely inane, pointless stuff and doesn’t hold any water because he is a Bayat client and Bayat’s brother is the president of the club we bought him from for what is clearly a ludicrous amount of money relative to his complete lack of ability.

So what’s the point trying to 'add balance and a different viewpoint' there by dealing in total hypotheticals if not to obfuscate from the clear reality of the situation?

£5m of it? Then back to deals all under £1m again? Come on man, this deal is such a freakish anomaly I don’t see how people can try to justify it. It was quite obviously not just a footballing decision.

I thought it was fairly obvious that the post was a point that because of the connections to Bayat, the player himself was always going to start off fighting a losing battle against a sections of the fanbase. Apologies if that wasn't clear if it caused you to misinterpret.

The point being, as reids put across more eloquently than I can, if we'd signed a player with the same skillset, same piss poor technique, same underlying numbers, same goalscoring record, but with no connection to a dodgy agent, the fee wouldn't be seen as quite so ludicrous. It's certainly not as ludicrous as Gray's turned out to be.

What's the point of anything? What an entertaining thread that would be to see every single poster rehashing the same moans about a transfer that has been moaned about since it took place. Do they have to get the JB seal of approval, or just follow a certain set of guidelines?

Just saying I don't think it's a coincidence that our first Championship season in normal times, with some residue of PL money, sees us spend our first transfer fees in the division.

Yes we overpaid for Bayo, clearly.

All deals under £1m? Ferreira? Kone?
