And I didn't even mention the EMPs, which are far more relevant today than when all the old 70s/80s stuff were made. All your large scale electronics are likely completely dead, even if you somehow manage to find a way to power them. Your smart phone might still work though, so at least we'll all be able to take pictures.
Surely the only response is to ferment sufficient internal discontent (through economic and cultural isolation of the Russian ruling and middle class), that someone inside the regime does a Brutus and takes Putin out. Putin can obliterate Ukraine without nuclear weapons. He threatens us with them. Bearing in mind China sees Europe as an essential market for its economy, I suspect they will apply pressure on Putin once Ukraine is subsumed into Russia. For the west the next moves are to sustain the resistance army once the Ukraine government is toppled. The mid term strategy must be the continued energy divergence from Russian controlled supplies. Plus the strengthening of NATOs land border - principally through the reemergence of a significant German military capability (same for Japan) as a bulwark to further Russian aggression.
In an ideal world The Woodland Critters from South Park move in and pluck out Putin eyes, force him to eat them and then piss in his eye sockets.
Compare and contrast the attitude of Ukrainian MP Kira Rudik, who is on Putin's kill list, who says: With anyone in our government.
