If the Russian state media started showing clips of Friday Night Dinner and passing it off as some sort of fly on the wall documentary then my heart would probably explode with joy.

The Russian delegation at the UN called for a discussion on Russophobia. There were very pleased that one of the speakers was the US historian Timothy Snyder. Now Snyder's short, but very good, treatise (AKA a thinly disguised 'attack/account' on the rise of MAGA Republicanism and Trumpism) On Tyranny is often held up by those anti-US/'West' (especially by Russian nationalists) as, a sort of, 'All That's Wrong With Western Democracies'. Unfotunately, Snyder didn't stick to what the Russian delegation thought was 'the script'.

Here are his closing statements when questioned on his speech by the head of the Russian delegation:

I hope Snyder doesn't live near any place of historical interest that any on-leave FSB agents may want to visit...

So the Russians saw a historian with a proven track record of speaking truth to power, thought "yep, that's our man", and were then surprised when he spoke the truth they keep trying to deny to power?

    Beyond hilarious.

The US has released footage of this drone incident today. Will be interesting to see what the Russians say now after adamantly denying it only yesterday.

The MIG must have hit the drone quite 'hard' judging by the damage done to the Reaper's prop blades (ISTR them being made of some sort of unobtainium type material).

    Russians' reply:

I believe the official uniform of Russian hooligans is an Adidas track suit.

The UK's representative at the UN made a very good statement at the session:

Slovakia sending 13 MiG-19 jets to Ukraine

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for countries sending arms to defend against the invasion but nearly $1 billion for 13 planes (that don't even have air to air missiles) made over 50 years ago?!

The thing is, they are airframes that the UkAF ground crews are familiar with and they have the skills, equipment and parts to maintain. Also, all of these 'old' MiGs (and SU's @Moose) form NATO countries have been modified to carry NATO standard coms, targetting systems and weapons (even if it's guns & bombs for a CAS role). They are not emptying out museums.

That does seem pretty dodgy. Though air to ground, they would still be effective. Air to air combat, they would likely come off second best.

What will be even dodgier will be the inevitable Hollywood movie featuring a load of over 80 year olds, Clint Eastwood etc, wheeled out as the only badasses on the planet still capable of fly by wire combat.

    They are MiG-29's not MiG-19s.

It was either misreported, or he "misspoke".

It’s a filthy business war. The UK is providing shells with depleted uranium to Ukraine.

Russia protested about the use of weapons with a ‘nuclear component’ and received a rebuff that this was ‘disinformation’, which it is. Depleted uranium is not a ‘nuclear’ weapon. It simply adds a heavy element to a shell, making armour piercing more effective.

But this isn’t a great response itself. Depleted uranium is a dirty weapon, leaving behind vaporised uranium, mildly radioactive and highly toxic. They did great damage in Iraq and are linked with infant abnormalities.

Winning a war against a foe like the Russians isn’t going to be pretty, but is it going to be necessary to destroy Ukraine to save it?

Seeing the damage done to some regions through indiscriminate bombing and hearing about the number of land mines placed, there will be some regions of Ukraine which won’t be liveable in for a very long time.

Hopefully Ukraine are smart about where they use the shells and they end the war sooner, or they’ll be much worse destruction.

Finland joins NATO forming a huge new border where NATO and Russia meet. Russian threatens unspecific ‘counter measures’ which, given Russia’s slow progress in Ukraine are likely to be to undermine Finland’s security and borders rather than offer any real threat right now.

There's a new Russian abhorrent war crime doing the rounds - bear in mind those Russians who manage to get their sane voices heard:

My Only Regret Is Failing to Convince People of the Danger Putin Posed

Ahead of a verdict expected next week, outspoken Kremlin critic Vladimir Kara-Murza, who has been put on trial for treason in Moscow for his outspoken anti-war comments, gave the following address to the court on Monday.
