Wait until you hear about how they control C02 and ethylene levels to produce the perfect just picked fresh fruit for the supermarket shelf.

Yeah I've mentioned that period in some other thread before. That's the most bizarre thing of the season for me. We played really well against some of the best teams in the league, we started well against Brentford as well and then just stopped playing that way. I honestly think we would have finished around the 15th place if we continued to play that way. But I blame Ranieri for that. Clueless decision to change tactics that were successful.

I can't believe it was down to him. That was what he tried to instill in us from the moment he got in the role. Then it stopped.

Either the players revolted because they were tired, or the DoF came and vetoed it on behalf of the owner.

Look at our rotten club, lazy players, inexplicably stubborn owners, then look at title winning Ranieri. Who is the logical suspect here?

    SerbianHornet First Year Pro

Hmm, didn't think of it that way, but there may be some truth to it.
I doubt that owners would veto it because all they care about is money probably. Or maybe they are that daft and thought we would get more points from that period of extremely tough games and that the tactics were the reason for that.
On the other hands, players being unhappy with the tactics that involve a lot of pressing and running is something that I think is quite possible. Most of our players are so lazy and disinterested and I wouldn't put it past them. They boycotted Pearson's tactics after lockdown even though that was working as well.

I wouldn't see the logic in the owners vetoing it either, but then so much of what they've done over the past few years goes beyond simple negligence into almost wilful self sabotage, that I can see it as a possibility.

Hahahahaha watching MOTD, Cleverly passing straight to Jesus for the third is hilarious. Simple clearance down the line? Nope, I’ll pass it straight to you, can’t wait to see him rip up The Champ next year.

Foster’s classic non dive for a penalty too, love it.

*Haha just seen Clevs chase Jesus for the 5th, can’t get anywhere near him. 53rd minute and he looks like he’s playing in extra time at a high climate.

He's just worthless at this point. Absolutely worthless.

I look forward to the usual suspects claiming he'll still be a useful asset in the Championship next season.

    Terrible.

I see Dennis put in another lovely ball for Pedro to waste from about 5 yards.

    Boooo Dennis.

I can’t understand the pessimism on here. We scored a goal at City. We’ve actually scored 2 against them this season. This is a huge improvement on previous matches. Why can’t anyone rejoice in the special moments. Too many just moan about the 5 goals we conceded. Glass half empty and all that.

Had we kept a clean sheet we’d have won that. Fine lines.

I put a bet on us to lose 6-0.

After we scored, I put a bet on for 6-1.

Cleverley was appalling, by far the worst player on the pitch in my opinion, despite practically everyone playing poorly in our team.
Dennis was good I thought, all things considered. Was too greedy once or twice, but he showed great skill at times. Got an assist as well. Kamara, apart from the mistake that led to their penalty was excellent I thought, and his goal was well taken. Pretty much everyone else was unbelievably poor, but that's not a problem as we always play poorly against Man City. Problem is, they played poorly for most of the season.

He can’t get close to anyone and this is just the MOTD highlights! Most the time he does make a challenge it’s at a weird angle with a desperate leg out and it’s weak meaning he loses the resulting 50/50.

In the rare case he wins the ball back, he’ll give it back to you anyway as his passing is AWFUL. Mainly because he looks so exhausted he can barely get his leg up.

When you’re of the David Silva type and never relied on industry, instead otherworldly class and technique, you can age wonderfully.

Tom Cleverley always had to over compensate for his lack of ability with his work rate, training level etc. With players like him once the legs go, they become League 1 level players.

His age mates who also played for England have done as much.

Daniel Sturridge & Jack Wilshere to name two. Adam Lallana was better than Cleverley ever was and has a reduced role at Brighton.

Tom Huddlestone got in the England team at a similar time I believe and has been in The Championship for like 5 years now.

Ah, the only 2 more wins and we'll be safe comment which sent us into one of those near fatal spirals in form. Didn't he have a big spat with Tommy Smith before when he left him out of the FA Cup SF team, and he left not soon after.

Played Chopra instead who had scored 4 goals week before .

Would have made no difference at all really but some saying we could have had a penalty when Dennis got tackled as he was going through - Man City player didn’t get the ball ?

It's the same with Hodgson. He kept a fairly mediocre Palace squad in mid table for 4 years. Moved to Watford and now he looks like a bungling idiot. It's impossible for any manager to be sucessful for more than a brief period working alongside Scott and Gino. It looks like Hodgson can't believe these halfwits are in charge of a football club and cant wait to leave.

According to Scott and Gino no need for a team psychologist. No need to pay that salary. But plenty of money to grease the palms of Uncle Mogi the low budget Raiola.

We were supposed to have super fit squad this season. Scott said so. New conditioning experts blah, blah, blah. Yet they cannot maintain the pressing tactics but for a few games. And several players puffing out their backsides again at the hour mark. Samir before his comical give away for Bumford's second could barely walk. So who is telling the truth ? The debacle of the Austrian holiday and Scott and Gino allowing free rein for the players due to them reaching a cup final had disastrous consequences that still linger.

Did Kiko have his mythical injury again so he could avoid this one ?

Could be the players had enough of the intense training regime, downed tools and abandoned Ranieri. I really would not put it past this shower given the antics of people like Foster. Nor forgetting the age of certain players. No way some of them can put in two performances of sheer graft in a week. Let's not get Thorsby but lets get Kucka.

Cheaper option but unable to play a full match and no resale value. Thorsby younger upcoming and can go week in and week out. That's G&S for you and I don't mean Gilbert and Sullivan although I'm sure William could have written some very biting verse about Fuxbury.

Look at what Palace have done. In fairness to the Nigels you cannot argue with what their board and chairman have done. Freshened up the squad and hired a competent manager whom the players look up to and can attract players too. We should be the sort of club on the lookout for the likes of Eze, Guehi and Olise instead of ******* money up the wall on manager/staff time and time again and players well past their sell by date. Shame on you Scott and Gino.

If you had cared to read some of my prior comments you would know my feelings towards Scott and Gino. I would not mind an invite so I can tell them if they dared to turn up what exactly I thought of their ineptitude. Still as a player when you get out onto the pitch as Kamara does you should still try and do your best whatever is going on the background.

There was talk Ranieri didn’t really engage with the players and wasn’t always at training but not sure how true that is.

Still shouldn’t be an excuse for poor performances or basic errors .

I'm pretty sure when Hodgson joined Leventhal did an article which said he is practically the same. Comes to work, takes training and leaves as soon as he can without spending time with the players. The club basically went for a boring, older, retired, English version of Ranieri.

Another example of us trying to mess ( Kamara this time ) around at the back and getting caught out .

Dangerous thing to do at the best of times let alone Man City.

It’s ok my friend. We both see it differently. No problem with that. Can I wish you a nice Sunday. I’m off to watch my cricket team most likely lose their 7th league match in a row. I’m not having the greatest of runs with my two teams lately!

The annoying thing is neither of them are necessarily as badly as results are showing. Certainly regards Watford, while I wouldn’t disagree that the squad is anywhere near good enough, I do think we have enough quality to be worth more than 22 points. A forward line of Sarr, Dennis, Pedro with King, Cucho etc as back up should be doing better. Sadly attitudes don’t seem right, nor the standard of coaching and that’s the deplorable thing. We’ve proved on a few limited games this season that we are capable of doing better.

Before anybody misreads, I’m not saying I think the squad is good enough to stay up. It’s not. Defensively weak. Poor keepers. An uncreative midfield. But I do think we should have put up slightly more of a fight and been closer to the 30 point mark.

By the way, it’s exactly a year ago today we went up.

What a huge and somewhat unavoidable mess we’ve made of it ever since.

Just been watching the MOTD repeat this morning. Gary Lineker just said "... we've seen Watford in action already, now time to focus on the club's work off the pitch, which is significantly better, one hopes".

Sarr penalty vs Millwall followed by the squad giving Xisco the "birthday bumps". Remember it well. All of the players with smiles and hope for what we could achieve this season. What a difference a year makes.
