Hey, directly funding Xisco's pay off isn't 'no reason'.

Yep, agreed. Apart from I had a moment of clarity and will not now be buying the book at all.

Seems the signed copy was just a sticker in the book anyway!

If you buy from the Hornet Shop and pay double, that extra tenner will pay for another CB in the January window. Your club needs you, so do the right thing.

As the average cost of a centre back is £17.83m, the means the club only has to shift just over 1.783m copies of the book.

Yes, but the average cost of a Watford CB is £17.83, so they only need to sell 2 books and will have change left over to go towards a new CF.

I bought a signed copy online from Waterstones (I had built up a bit on their loyalty scheme). Discounted to £16.99 and free postage or collect from the Watford branch.

I read my copy in two sittings over the weekend, which probably goes a long way to informing how much detail there is.

Pretty disappointing. Very stale, and 'by the numbers'. For someone who prides themselves on being outspoken, he really doesn't have much to say about his run ins with Mazzarri/Ivic.

So that I don't have to, can someone who has read Troy's magnum opus post the key points. Many thanks

Create a false demand, sell many hundreds (a couple of thousand maybe?) @ £20 each, don't indicate when the number of signed copies sell out (like the website does with other products) and then claim 'unprecedented demand' a couple of days later and say they'll send us unsigned copies hoping we won't bother cancelling. Underhand or naive? Either way, Amazon it is.

If you’re concerned at the club shops working practices, you probably shouldn’t look too closely at Amazon then….

With both open to criticism, for me the price became the deciding factor.

Every Christmas I get the latest Watford related book. All sit unread in some cupboard somewhere in the house. I think I've just found a runner up prize for the correct score competition.

I’ve downloaded the kindle version and programmed it to auto omit the words “to be fair “ and got it down to an easily manageable 11 pages .

After expanding the word size to 3 words per line , I got it back up to the original page count and thus achieved the satisfaction of reading a whole book whilst experiencing a small fraction of the boredom .

Unused sub for Birmingham tonight. Amazing what an albatross he was for us when a bottom half championship team have worked out he is below standard.

Yes. Says a lot that they were chasing the game one goal down to local rivals and they still didn’t bring him on. Yet he was expecting to start for us in the prem this season :)

I saw a friend's copy yesterday. The 'signed bookplate' was a a bit of paper the size of the mottos you get in Christmas crackers, with two small wavy lines with not one single decipherable letter in either. Bit of a piss take really.

    Bring back proper autographs!

Lessons from a Life in Sport by Troy Deeney in the Sunday Times today. Football club mentions: Walsall 2, Cheltenham 1 (least favourite ground), Birmingham 1 (but only in the headline), Watford 0. Sean Dyche got a mention as the coach he looked up to, though.

Got the book the other day. I think it is a good and interesting read. I have reached the part where he has completed his spell in jail and is about to go back to Watford.

I used to read a lot but in the last couple of decades I only get through a book or two a year (usually while on holiday), so I may not be the best judge of a good book anymore. My like of Troy's book seems to be bucking the trend of opinion on this thread.

Troy was due to be in Tring last night at a Book Festival event to talk about the book with Mike Naylor. As I'm local I was going to go, but opted not to in the end, part laziness and part not feeling too well. And anyway, I thought I'd read loads about it on here if there was anything controversial said etc.
Did no one go? I hope he wasn't there on his own :(

I read this from a second hand copy I found.

It was OK. I thought it was revealing that he said over and over again that he "just wants to be loved" and wanting to fit in. It goes some way to explaining the gangsta big guy stuff when he gets with his peers. Apparently he has psychiatric counselling and I think he should keep going.

He ties himself in knots trying to explain why his childhood in da Brum ghetto was great, but he doesn't want his children brought up in that environment.

Huge daddy issues run through the book from start to finish. The father who brought him up sounds like a real nasty piece of work - a child and woman beater. An occasionally-present bully boy delinquent. Deeney revels in the intimidation and fear his 'father' causes in others. Hmmmmm.

There's an interesting part about Beppe Sanino shouting at the players that they're all a complete disrespectful bunch of Kants, throwing his track suit top and whistle on the floor and storming out. Got to respect big Beppe for that. He was 100% correct and somebody needed to say it on behalf of all the rest of us.

Also he didn't really say why Wally Mazz didn't like him (loathed him he says). He doesn't say what he did. Probably smart mouthing I should think. Disrespect. Rebelliousness. He does admit though that he was a tremendous experienced manager tactically and from researching opponents etc. I liked Wally and thought he should have been given much more time with us. If Troy had left, well so be it. Maybe that would have been better both ways.

Although we only hear one side of the story, Ivic does seem like a bit of a tzoser.

There's good descriptions of playing with Iggy and Vydra. Troy blows his fackin' stack that Iggy didn't pass to him at old Trafford and wants to thump him. Deeney day is covered in good style and the cup comeback win over wolves. Also the 2-0 v Brighton when we went up.

The book ends with another explosion of daddy issues. He is at peace with everyone and has no hate or bad feeling inside him apart from his real father - some dodgy fly by night wedding DJ.

Entertaining in places, but long sections of him name checking bruvvas from Brum and their uninteresting antics. I think I can understand him better after reading it.

    7/10

Have the book, haven't even so much as glanced at it in all honesty!

I agree r.e. Wally! What people seem to forget is in the first few months of his tenure he was excellent and then he lost most of his key players to injuries, completely derailing the season.

I think it was more the fact he didn't try and speak English which led to his breakdown with the fans.

Thought he did ok for us.

He also left us with the memory of having "two keepers' on the bench". Whether or not that was a silent protest to Gino we'll never know but it was memorable even if the 5-0 pasting wasn't enjoyable.

As always seemed to be the case we had a poor end of the season too .

Wally did amazingly well considering the injuries we had, I think it became a self fulfilling prophecy at the end as he knew he was going to get the tin tac so just gave up. He was also right about Deeney and the only manager until Ivic to even contemplate tackling the elephant in the room, just like Ivic he lost that battle, though.
