I am slightly concerned we’ve signed too many players. A big advantage of hiring Cleverley was that the players know him. He’s inexperienced but he has their respect because they’ve trained and played with him. But now half of them haven’t. Hopefully having the senior figures on-side (not to mention the start we’ve made) will give him authority in what can be a dog-eat-dog dressing room. The other complication is the size of the squad now. We have approx. 25 first-team players, so he’s going to have half a dozen or more disgruntled players to placate after every team selection. Depth is good, but managing a lot of players is a specific skill for managers and it’s another thing Tom’s going to have to learn on the job, very quickly.
I dunno, some of them he’s been very clear are project players (doubt Kayky will be kicking off that he’s not playing, hopefully Tikvic won’t and hopefully Vata and Dwomoh show their worth in time)
I sort of know what you mean about rocking the team spirit. It’s ironic given we were all concerned about squad depth and not getting anyone in. Hopefully it will be ok.
Ebosele is happening. Think the midfielder is not going to happen - sorry. Just trying to give fans a fair crack at the info. Will say more when I can after 11pm (if I can)
We can hope, but Kayky has moved continent after Watford paid a fee. Maybe he didn’t consider that he’d be a ‘project’ before he moved here? Tikvic is on loan - maybe he assumed (fairly) that normally if a club loans a player they intend to use them? I bet most players want to be playing, regardless of circumstance.
Ebosele would be a very good signing and probably one we should’ve made for at least a year now. It’ll be disappointing if we don’t sign a midfielder, although with Louza’s injury coming so close to the deadline I do get it.
We have TDB and Sissoko plus imo Kayembe. Although Kayembe has started well as a No 10 given all the other options we have for that position I think he’s a decent option to drop back. We also have Dwomoh and the promising youngster Ramirez. Louza is only out for a few weeks. I think that’s probably ok barring a massive injury crisis.
Would we be able to cancel Grieves' contract should we need to? Or does it count as an international transfer
Would have been pretty unbelievable window getting the midfielder as well but really happy with the business we have done. Buzzing for it!
Kayky is a teenage defender who has only just made his professional debut, I wouldn’t have thought he’d be demanding to start. Tikvic is that bit more experienced, but again, played very little, and in either case, Cleverley has been clear with them regarding their playing time (unlike the young forward players who have played more of a role this season), it’s not as if he’s promised them a regular spot and backtracked
I’m more concerned about what promises Pozzo or Nani might have made! It might only take one voice of discontent to start the rot. It is all speculation on my part though. As I acknowledged before, it’s definitely important to have depth, so we can only hope Tom can manage the players’ expectations and things work out well.
Yeah I’ve been concerned about depth here, but if Kayembe moves back and Louza not injured for long and maybe Dwomoh is ready to play at this level then we’re ok. And Kayembe moving back still leaves Chak, Vata, Baah & Ince as 10’s And 3 CF’s Seems ok that way.
For me Kayembe shouldn't even be an option in midfield. He's a completely different player when playing deeper, and not in a good way. No positional awareness, not staying with runners and too ponderous on the ball. As far as I'm concerned we only have TDB and Sissoko as realistic starters at the moment, Dwomoh or Ramirez-Espain might surprise us all but failure to get another midfielder tonight would be disappointing.
Cleverley said in his most recent press conference that Dwomoh has looked better in training than he anticipated, so that could also explain the lack of midfielder. Tbh considering he played a full season in the Belgian top flight last year one would hope he'd be capable of playing a squad role already despite his age. Chak is also capable of playing in CM as well.
Personal opinion is that it was a ridiculous target given the parameters the club knew about - and yet they did it again.
Highly doubt anything will come of it at this late stage, but Rajovic is linked with Derby and Millwall…
Must be rubbish ! https://x.com/SportsPeteO/status/1829618039962411176 Cannot see it unless they offer really silly money ?
That Pete O'Rourke fella's tweeted stories about us a dozen times over the course of the summer and nothing has come from any of them
Hmm. Guess they haven’t got very far . Not sure the Millwall fans wouldn’t take to him as he won’t be running around like a China bull !
I'd be gutted if we got rid of Rajovic, something I wouldn't have said a couple of months ago. He looks a lot sharper, has started putting himself about more and he always pops up with goals. A vital player to have in the squad.
