    Edmund schooled by Sinner.

Rafa too good and too physical for Draper.

Kwon out to Eubank, too quick a turn around you'd think from Auckland?

    Coric out in three.

Even at his best Edmund was limited. The players had worked him out and he was dropping down the rankings before injury hit.

Never good however to see a career beset by injury.

Nasty Nick possibly paying the price for not enough work off court,of which there is zero.

    Dart out to Teichman.
Another Swiss,Stan loses in five. His last AO one would think.

What‘s Draper been doing over the break? He looks less able to go long than he did last year.

  5. I Blame Pozzo

    Has he played Rafa before?
I doubt it and probably not in such heat.
Rafa is so physical in how he hits,so much spin on the ball it rears up at you like a python, time and time again.
Very, very manual but certainly the best time to play a top guy as Murray is proving now v Matteo.

    Oh my goodness Berrettini!

A drop shot a ninety year old would reach from Murray and he dumps backhand into the net,at match point!

    Murray wins the Champ T.

Good for Murray but also for his second round opponent, presuming they don't go to five.

Play Jeremy Chardy who is no youngsters either.

Great draw as Chardy is a very typical flakey Frenchman.

    Certainly not a grinder.

    Sorry that is Evans .

Murray will play Fabio Fognini or Thanasi Kokkinakis who haven’t finished but the Aussie is 2 sets up .

    Again not a bad a draw ?

I knew that now you remind me!

Θανάση ( possibly?!) played well last week and has almost as big a serve as Berrettini.

Melbourne being the second biggest Greek city behind Athens he'll have plenty of support.

Nadal beaten in straight sets by Ronald McDonald ( sorry mean Mackenzie!)

As you might think he was struggling with injury so probably won’t see him till the clay court season.

Australian organisers have a headache too - some players haven’t started their first round match yet whilst others are in the 3rd round already .

Class from Rafa not to retire when clearly injured.
Injuries again mounting up for him.
Good to see the sweet soul voice of Michael McDonald err Mackenzie doing well! Lots of Americans now.

Will Gauff's forehand hold up v ER? It usually has a wobble.

Craig Tiley the TD is a bit of a sap!

Congratulations to Raducanu from going from break out Grand Slam winner to joining the ranks of Great British bottle jobs. She had Gauff beat in the 2nd set and somehow contrived to lose it and the match.

I suppose it’s a step forward that she didn’t retire when a set and a break down.

When she won the US open I said she'd already achieved something momentous even if she never wins another match. Little did I know she almost literally wasn't going to.

    Oh well, she's a millionairess.

They seemed to say she was struggling a bit but re found her form .

Ultimately wasn’t enough though when it matters.

    Extremely harsh.
She lacks matches at present and it showed with bad decision making and poor execution when she had Goff's Oak on the ropes.

She looks a better player with more variety and far better technique,Gauff cannot flatten out her forehand and her service action is dubious to say the least.

However she's a tremendous athlete and made ER miss, especially on the backhand drive volley in the tie break.

She needs to be injury free and get a good batch of tournaments under her belt. It's a missed opportunity today as Gauff was as tight as can be but she found a way to win.

ER has won the major tournament so in my eyes has no pressure, just learning and improving.

    Give her some slack people!

Unless you have experienced that duel when you're playing someone who is going to be a long term rival it's hard to understand.

Slightly alarming was the fact she seemed to have an ab muscle problem. Needs to sort these niggles out asap.

Norrie beats Listerine the French mouthwash in four.
Lord above he's dull to watch!

Americans on the march today in the bottom half of the draw.
Brooksby and his Courier like game beats Ruud,JJ Wolf, Michael Mmoh beats Zverev, clearly needing matches after 8 months out. Tommy Paul wins too.

Baby Fritz however is out to Aussie Popyrin.

    Evans through in three.

Are these new Americans the real deal or just rank and file top 50 players?

I think Fritz is in the top 10 but has been knocked out surprisingly.

    Tommy Paul pretty useful too.

Murray still not on yet - be a late for him .

Fritz has done well in the last 18 months and I'm surprised he lost to the Aussie.

    Brooksby is awkward.

Korda is the best of them I think. Son of Petr and brother of Nellie the golfer.

Kokkinakis choking big time as it goes to a fourth set.

Pieces of Murray's skeleton will be littering the complex soon enough!

    Heading into a 5th set!?

Whoever wins will probably be at a big disadvantage next round.

    03:17 am!

    Madness really.

Do you think they have kept going just because a home player is playing ?

Had it been 2 non Aussies they might have called it a day .

Come on Andy but suspect the happiest man in Melbourne will be Roberto Bautista Agut who plays the winner of this game.

And he had his own 5 setter to content with.

Roberto BA - no spring chicken himself .

Not bad for an old guy in tennis terms with a metal hip.

Hopefully gets some well earned rest before his next match !

'Ηρακληαν effort from Murray but poor TK choked at 5-4 serving for the third.
RBA will have been tucked up in bed for hours and he had five sets too!

Lehecka fulfilling his promise beating Norrie although CN seemed to have a knee problem.

    Straight sets Στέφανος again.

Yes total utter commitment, grit and determination. Such a shame his body couldn't hold out longer such that he's really lost these last 5 years or so and missed out on competing at the very top. Must be so frustrating for him thinking what could have been despite the titles he did win. Great to see him enjoy a match like that every now and again. A crazy win.
