"No... Please... I cannot take another spinless performance from the cowards in yellow with a grinning keeper who hates ketchup and loves YouTube more than his actual job" I hear you say it... but the countdown to our eventual demise of a PL club has to continue I am afraid.

Southampton are a funny side. For the past few seasons they have been very up and down, either having a really poor start then blasting up the table (like this season), or starting really well then falling faster down the table than Zaha diving in the penalty box. I am impressed with their ethos and team spirit - they have just come off the back of a really decent run of results ending in a thumping at Villa and a narrow loss to Lego Head's Newcastle (great winning goal mind).

Our record at Southampton is well... to put it kindly, like a bouncing ball. We played them off the park under Snake, then played like a sack of wet cement and lost 2-0 on another occasion. Last time we played there it was QSF final game in charge of his second tenure. Sarr scored his first PL goal to give us a surprise lead - but it all came crashing down due a complete comedy of errors that lead to their equalizer, before the ever present James Ward-Prowse smashed in a beautiful free kick with less than 15 minutes to go to seal the points. That season was one of their "let's start badly then survive" ones.

So, what can we expect from a trip of St. Marys? A point? A win? Another utterly pitiful performance littered with mistakes and ending with Foster saying "That's Football!" before nabbing JWP's shirt at FT to add to his collection? I'll let you decide. As for team news, well is Kiko out or not? I am pretty sure he faked that injury at Wolves to get off the pitch. Hopefully Pedro should be back so I would start him. Cathcart is going through another bad patch and Cleverly needs to be dropped. Knowing our luck, Kucka will start and WTE will take Kiko's place instead of Kabasele.

There is one bright spark here though Ladies and Gentleman. Lose, Lose or Draw, we have a two weeks after this game. I really feel that could be the trigger for Woy and his awful tenure in charge. Knowing Gino, he will keep him on just for the Liverpool game for the LOL's.

Please don't bastardise the name of all of our players just because you don't think they are very good. It is disrespectful and offensive. I called out another poster on this a while ago in relation to Mariappa. We all like to hear each other's opinions, which we are all entitled to, but it can be done without resorting to this sort of thing.

This will be worse than Wolves, Saints smarting from their late defeat to Newcastle. All they need to do is press our backline and thats 3 goals given to them. I hope Leeds and Neverton start winning soon as us still being in with a shout at this stage is cruel on us fans, please put us out of our misery. Saints 0-1 Watford.

Well done on summoning the enthusiasm to start this thread. I wonder if I can summon the enthusiasm to watch the match?

Southampton is down the road from me, i've never missed a Watford Saints game at St.Mary's, tomorrow will be the rest time.

I even booked the weekend off back in July when the fixtures came out.

Delighted not to be going, I would much rather cut the grass or wash the car.

Not been to a game yet this season and shan't be doing so either.

    Oh, standard 3-0 defeat.

If the players for once manage to raise their game (or play as they’re capable of doing, I’m not sure what is when they play the top sides) against a midtable side, given their narrow defeats against Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham where they deserved at least a draw in some of them, who knows what result they could get?

It’s a bit academic though because we need at least 4 points from the next 2 games to stand any chance and we’re bound to lose at Liverpool.

Kiko and King to be assessed (asked whether they can be bothered to play).

    Ngakia and WTE are available.

Sarr doing some light ball work, not sure what that's got to do with football.

Nkoulou back in full training next week.

    Baah injured again.

Well it's a choice of two, a fairly spirited performance but we let a (usual) sloppy goal in, followed by a top-corner free kick from WP. Then we throw everything at them for 4 late minutes and miss 2 sitters. OR ... Another Wolves type performance....?
    Hmm 3-1

Given the rumours in the Daily Mail, we’ll see whether the players have any respect for Roy.

A spirited, hard working defeat will show they do.

A gutless collapse like we saw on Thursday night will show these bunch of losers want Roy gone.

I can't see us winning this one unfortunately. I expect some changes, but it will probably be something like Kucka, Sema and WTE, instead of Louza, Cucho and Samir. I can't see Roy dropping Cleverley for example.

Agree but tbh I don't think the players are spirited enough to show anything, other than fancy practice drills in training and hollow talk about feeli g good.
OK I know confidence can be fickle but I'll never understand how we continually bring in players that have no grit or soul.? I "think" the whole Prem world makes most average players stiff with fear and they can't perform to any decent level. Or maybe it's just that the top 30pct of players in the prem are SO much better and gifted than the rest, the others are mostly paralysed with fear as soon as they walk onto the pitch..?

  28. wfcSinatra

    wfcSinatra Predictor Choker 14/15

I’d argue different, I’d say there’s probably 5% of players in the Prem who’s best is so much better than anyone that there’s not a lot you can do when they are on song.

I’m thinking Salah, KDB, Kane, Son, VVD etc.

Then there’s a tier below who are great but have dips and need a system for them, on an off day with enough heart you may catch them out. Mahrez, Mane, Bruno, Rudiger etc.

The rest are all good players and it’s a mix of hard work and professional pride that makes them effective.

Unfortunately, we don’t really seem to recruit anyone who’s effort and hard work makes up for their limitations. We really do seem to have a knack for signing losers. However, one has to start questioning if it’s the system and way the club is run rather than the individual?

If all three of them are announced at 1pm tomorrow as starters - I'm giving up what little spark of respect I had for Roy. After Thursday's mauling, that isn't much as it is.

    Exactly this.

We never seem to sign anyone who will roll up their sleeves and dig in when it gets tough. Heads drop and they can't wait to get off the pitch.

It does seem that psychology was never a part of the "best scouting network in the world" and now that's dropped even further to just getting on the phone to Bayat to see what he's got down the back of the sofa.

It’s because we don’t consider that particular attribute when signing players, like say Dyche or Bielsa would.

The players we sign fall into roughly four categories:

    1) The good ones, they’re sold the dream of their next move as a means to get them to sign, so when the going gets tough they don’t care as they know they’ll be off when we’re relegated.

    2) The crap ones, this more covers contract extensions but also covers pensioners like Kucka. These players are actually lucky to be playing at this level as for some reason we’re the only ones mad enough to sign them up on long deals. They often try hard but their talent is short of what’s needed which eventually affects their confidence and their effort levels.

    3) The blind punts, players like Rose, Welbeck etc. despite being by far the most chaotic club in the whole football pyramid we regularly sign these type of players thinking we can do something different to all the more stable clubs that have failed previously. Not the type of player you can rely on for effort and fighting spirit.

    4) The ones in the middle, the likes of Sissoko, good players in their day, a good player for our level, but their career has long such peaked and they have nothing to aim for, they can’t win anything with Watford or get a better move. When the going gets tough there is no incentive to roll their sleeves up.

Our father, who art in Heaven,

It's me, Moog. I know I've not prayed for a while or even believed in you, but if you exist and are as merciful and gracious as we are led to believe, then I need your help now.

Watford are playing Southampton this weekend and Lord God Almighty, please, please please can you spare some time from watching the innocents of Yemen, Ukraine and others get blown up, to help me out.

Please ensure that your tool, Roy Hodgson selects Catchart, King and Cleverley. Please ensure that they are as **** as ever. Please ensure that Foster gurns in goal as he half heartedly lets in a calamitous goal.

Please let watford lose and lose big. Let the COGS be smitten with remorse for their poor judgement. Let Gino react with the sin of wrath and sack Roy. Let the club's turmoil continue and let Gino's pride be punished with losses of millions from our asset value.

Let us be relegated. Let Gino be miserable and suffer, as the fans have suffered, and forced to sell the club for a pittance to a despotic national government.

    In jesus's name.

    Amen.
