Should Starmer Tell Musk To F*** Off, Or Is The Tw** Best Ignored?

Discussion in 'Politics 2.0' started by Ghost of Barry Endean, Jan 4, 2025.

  1. Half of me wants him to stand up to the nasty little bully, half of me thinks it would instigate an even bigger pile on. Or should Starmer, seeing that he has a mega-villain as a permanent enemy in the USA, see the writing on the wall and make up with Europe as a matter of urgency.

We need someone to hold our government to account.

It's not as if the useless Tories are able to lay a glove on them, having been awful themselves for 14 years.

The country is a complete mess so carry on Elon and Nigel I say!

  4. You now welcome foreign interference? Unless I'm being whooshed, I did think you were slightly more sensible than that. Still, it will annoy Davy that there are dissenting voices in this bubble.

I think our 2 party FPTP system has failed. The Tories and Labour are both inept these days. I’m fine with all and sundry challenging Starmer’s mob (and the Tories for that matter) as long as it’s sensible.

Tear it down! I’m in danger of an unhinged rant here but how can our taxes be so high and always increasing and yet such a basic service like getting an ambulance takes 10 hours, and it’s impossible to get a GP or dentist appointment? A&E routinely have 10 hour waits. It’s an absolute disgrace.

Rip it all up and start again. It makes me bloody furious!

  6. But it's not sensible, is it? Farage's "policies" on the economy, health and immigration are thin and ridiculous.

  7. I think Starmer (and Reeves) have been dreadful, but probably for completely different reasons to the right wingers.

The imposition of Eers NI was stupid. Tax profits.

Well, surely it’s largely because we have some fundamental structural issues with how our society is setup? Things that were obvious years ago, if not decades, have been ignored and many chickens have now come home to roost. Both parties are responsible for that and it’s disappointing Labour have come in and kicked some big issues like resolving the adult social care mess into the long grass.

That all said, Reform have zero workable policies to address these issues either and Musk isn’t interested in holding anyone to account for anything. So it’s likely to carry on whatever happens.

Poor presentation and rubbish strategy are the main charges I’d level at them. The message that ‘things are broken and will need a decade to fix’, which in fairness Starmer was clear about before and after the election, has been ignored. Nor could they do much about the heinous Southport murders and the riots would have elicited exactly the same response from any government you pick in the past 40 years. But they’ve overplayed the 22bn black hole and clearly underestimated how little honeymoon period they’d be afforded by the public, even if they knew the Tory luvvie media would be full-throttle as soon as they could.

I can’t understand why Reeves decided to forgo an emergency / post-election budget, something most incoming administrations have done. Useful for shovelling blame to the last lot and front-loading bad news. Instead the numpties went for death by a thousand cuts and the worst of both worlds. Took a lot of damage for the WFA decision but couldn’t move on from it because they dangled the budget for 3 months. And spent the meantime doom mongering. And now, while some of the reviews they’ve set up are sensible or legally required, others like the adult social care commission appear to be trying to dodge doing anything. Odds have got to be very small they’ll get cross-party consensus on anything that big a year out from an election.

I despise politicians of all stripes. Get rid of them all and get some people with experience and a track record of success in to run the country.

Paper reviewers on 5live going on on about how the people feel the current Prime Minister will only last another year needed to be told it was just Daily Mail readers who had been polled on that...

I am sure they probably didn't want Starmer in the first place so hardly going to be positive in any way about him or Labour!

Interesting 'bit' in a very beige article from the NYT about Musk's focus on the UK govt:

I think it is essential his comments that are totally groundless need challenging. Point out the irony of the fact that a man who is determined NOT to clamp down on misogyny on his 'platform' sees fit to label an acknowledged feminist campaigner as a facilitator of rape. Of course, his refusal to do the necessary on 'X' is all in the cause of 'free speech' and nothing to do with profits.
What will not be helpful will be going beyond that & getting involved in ongoing spats. Point out where he is factually wrong & highlight his hypocrisy & leave it at that.

I see Musk is now saying Reform UK ltd needs a new leader because Farage is "not up to it".

I wonder what Vice President Trump will think about his boss dissing his UK BFF?

It’s just more editorial naivety / stupidity by BBC news producers. The Mail poll is a legit poll but the question on that point was asking people to speculate how long Starmer would last. A plurality (a third) said a year… which means two thirds thought longer. Yet the Mail headline screams “POLL; STARMER WILL BE OUT OF NO 10 IN A YEAR” and the dumb dumb BBC reports it like it’s news rather than just wish-casting from a right leaning newspaper.

Yes Emma Woolf was making it sound like this was some sort of official denouncing of the PM by x millions of people but as you probably was a few hundred who didn't like the bloke anyway.

Either way it’s not news. But slap it on the front page of a newspaper and the BBC reads it out and promotes the message as if it is.

Yes. Although at the moment SKS seems to be simply ignoring him and letting his soldiers express their feeling.

As you say the blokes a bully with an extreme far right agenda. The only issue that Starmer or any government has is that he is mates and influential with the PoTUS & with Tesla has huge economic input in the UK, which with the green agenda will only increase.

  20. Tesla sales are falling. Can't help thinking that shame at association is a factor.

I think the interesting power struggle will be between Trump and Musk.

Up until now, Trump has been able to rid himself of anyone around him who displeases him. Mere millionaires with no massive social media platforms within their control.

He has now opened the lid on Musk and given him a seat in government. Could he ever close that box now, even if he wanted to?

I can't believe the inflated ego of Trump can enjoy seeing all the memes showing Musk in charge and Trump (in some cases literally) his lap dog.

But Musk has just as big an ego (even bigger?). How would he react to being sacked?

Trump is far more vulnerable now than he was in 2016. I could well see Musk leading a campaign to remove him because of his mental and physical frailties. With his money and social media influence who's to say he couldn't do it.

Vance would make a very good sock puppet replacement POTUS for Musk imho too.

If it wasn't for the damage I believe they are going to do to the world economy, the threat they pose to minorities and world peace, I'd be looking forward to the potential soap opera over the coming 4 years that I believe will unfold.

Since he turned his fire away from saintly Jess Philips and took aim at Farage, the media appears to have switched from regarding Musk as a puffed up American moron who has no right to comment on British politics and should mind his own bloody business and get on with trying to sell a few of his hugely overpriced cars, to an influential maverick who we'll just have to learn to get along with as he's going to play a key role in Trump's government.

Really? They still seem to be quoting him all over the shop. You're right that some commentators of the left have enjoyed his swing at Fartrage though. And in fairness to Musk, if he wants to be an equal opportunities spreader of hatred and contempt for all politicians then he's probably pushing against an open door with many people.

Have to keep telling myself I work for his industry, have spoken to him various times over media and yet this is what he really thinks of the British. I guess I'll keep my head down and keep going. I love the job I do, regardless of the person who runs the show.

So convenient, just popping up in one of your feeds. Nothing like that JUST pops up in mine.

So that table you've put up shows "Proportion of Defendants proceeded with"
The words "proceeded with", is the kicker here. Certainly not the ones, where a blind eye was turned.
Out of interest now put up your table for the "Asian Group" (their description) the percentage that wasn't proceeded with. Or is there a way of comparing, groups that weren't proceeded with? Without that information, you are kind of shilling for Elon, isn't that just what he is saying.
Here's a quote from a labour MP "Maybe those white girls should just shut up for the sake of diversity."
Any chance of a quote saying those Asian girls being raped should be quiet to benefit diversity? Just popping up in your feeds. Probably not.

So rabidly blind to reality, you have missed the point. Here's a clue, it's not the colour/race/religion of the perpetrators that is fuelling this. Step out of your echo chamber, have look around and report back when the penny drops.
