True, fair point. In my head I always had Holding bowling and Willey batting as that was their main roles...

    A matter of debate:

There is nothing at all “alleged” about this incident.

It actually happened - I heard it as did thousands (millions?) of others. There is no debate at all about the facts of the matter. There is no grey space. A self-respecting specialist cricket sports writer should be much better informed.

Most amusing was to hear the commentator slowly corpse and try to stifle giggles when he realises what he had just said. Very funny - but it is also very real - even despite ****y Wikipedia’s use of the word “supposedly” and their claim that no recording of the gaffe exists.. I myself had a recording of it and it also featured prominently on a BBC radio show which replayed the best of the week’s broadcast events.

Good luck Scott and welcome to the club if you happen to be reading this. Great opportunity and hopefully for yours and our sakes it all comes good!

Good to have got our transfer business done so early in the season, and avoided an auction. Welcome Scott.

If this guy has potential and there's a plan for him to eventually play first team football then I'm all for this (this seems to be the case based on the reaction from Stockport)

He’s already 20 isn’t he? If he’s not ready for their first team in whatever tier they’re in (5th? 6th?) then he’s incredibly unlikely to ever be Championship ready.

Maybe we’re just looking at the finances and accepting we should prepare for our inevitable future.

Ah okay. Don’t know where I got that from then.

Still don’t expect anything from him, but good luck to the lad. Hopefully he turns out to be a masterstroke.

We have not got much to spend. Every penny counts. The aim has to be automatic promotion. If needs be fill the u23 with our own Academy players. They may sink or they may swim. And during this season let's get a thorough review of the Academy and where we go from here regarding it. Scrap it or make sure there is a defined pathway into the first team not to mention improve scouting in the UK and lower tiers.

Holding joins Hinchy as another County exile so in a way I can see why it's seen as promising but thanks to the Pozzo profligacy regarding money we need to find as much as we can to help Edwards now in the first team.

Isn't this signing demonstrating a hopeful improvement in that though?

It is in one way Stu. Brighton took Hinchy the other year from the County and I suppose I am being rather harsh seeing as Brighton have done the same with him as what we are going to do.

Nonetheless this sort of thing should have been looked at several seasons ago. It's not hindsight. This particular area of the forum was always highlighting players from the lower sections of the tier that were never taken on board. I do hope it's a sign of things to come from Gilligan and Johnson and their scouting team. Hand in hand with that to keep our international scouting on top form as well a la Brentford. Use the statistical model followed by in depth investigation of a target and dispense with Gino's idea of just buying to speculate without any coherent plan for the development of the side.

So for example left back. Three players for that role. The senior professional and a younger promising back up with someone in the reserves/Academy ready to step in when one is moved on and so on in a cycle. With several prospects under continual surveillance for that. Clubs have done it on a budget and with success but I've never seen any logic with Gino's moves in the market.

I hope this is a concerted trend of trying to acquire the best possible youth from lower down the pyramid and not a one off. There are gems to be found and certain clubs to keep an eye on who do a great job in producing good players. Crewe in the past, clubs like Exeter and Oxford United.

Hope you're prepared for this to be quoted when he makes his solitary appearance in a disappointing League Cup second round exit in a couple of years time.

Am I right in thinking, having just been relegated, we still don’t have to play in the League Cup first round? I don’t think I could stomach losing on penalties after a 0-0 draw at Stevenage.

Pretty sure it's just the team that comes 18th that gets the 1st Round bye.
