"Despite the recruitment team working through the night behind the scenes and a late unsuccessful bid for Hector Kyprianou, the club were unable to secure any of their January targets. The good news being that with the emergence of Mamadou Doumbia, the strong training performances shown by Myles Roberts and the pending return from injury of Tom Dele Bashiri, it is thought Head Coash Tom Cleverley feels that he effectively has 3 new players jockeying for position in any case and does not want to stymie their development with a bloated squad. An additional boost has been the 2 year extension agreed with established Swedish international Ken Sema, as owner Gino Pozzo continues to provide Cleverley with a squad able to meet all challenges in this season and beyond"
Well I know we are already in talks with Peterborough for Kyprianou, so we at least haven’t left it until deadline day this time… and he’s out of contract in summer so a good chance they’re willing to listen to offers this time around. we shall see how it plays out
Think we've missed the boat with Kyprianou,, lots of interest fom other clubs with bigger budgets than ours
we shall see. I think our long term interest holds us in good stead with the player, also a local lad which helps
I'd hope if we let go of Porteous we'd bring in a left-footed CB if possible. We already have Pollock, Sierralta and Keben for the right-side or central of the 3 CBs. Ogbonna despite being left-footed is also seen as more of a central player. For the left side we've had to mostly use either a sub-par Morris, or out of position Sierralta. Tikvic isn't really up to it and will be loaned out somewhere. Kayky is still a long way off from doing anything.
I think Cleverley said he's just back on the grass. It may still be a few weeks before he's ready to play, but he was highly rated enough when we signed him that unless the incoming CB is just a loan it wouldn't make sense long-term to bring someone in who would shift him to 3rd or 4th in the pecking order for a spot.
Maybe it's Deulofeu? But then he's not a Free Agent I think as still under Udinese contract? Also ignroes the whole wonky knee injury thing
Reported in the Mirror that Preston want him on loan, though a North End fan in the comments on X is casting doubt as they already have 5 CBs
Well unless he really really wants to go cannot see this happening. EDIT: One got injured on Friday apparently but then would be a waste to just got there and sit on their bench. Also he started the last game and knowing how we swap the defence around probably play in the next!
Wonder how our average player tenure compares with other clubs. Who's our longest sever now? Bachman?
Dunno, seems like a strange move to just loan him. If we're that desperate to free up his wages then why not just sell him?
If it happened it wouldn't surprise me if it was a loan with an obligation to buy in the summer. Often suits one side or the other to hold off the permanent deal for a bit.
Seems to be a go-er. The one area we probably actually had half decent squad depth, we're now only an injury to Pollock away from bad CB options... Can't really understand why we'd let him go unless he's on big wages.
I was so optimistic when we signed him but he's the most kamikaze centre back I've seen here. There's aggression and then there's stupidity - then has the audacity to shout at everyone else.
