Just seen that. https://twitter.com/WD18Fans/status/1750643912631308407 I mean maybe we will get some sort of silly fee for him like Kamara. But obviously will need a replacement or two .
He's consistently been a weak link defensively and is a major reason why we never keep a clean sheet. Having said that, I wouldn't trust that we'd replace him with anyone better at this stage of the window.
He's been a bit of an odd fit really. When he was first here he was immense and playing out of his skin all game. He's pretty quickly however lowered those levels of attention to how the game is moving and making some pretty disaster fuel mistakes when a calmer and more measured approach is required. Not sure why that is, and it seems every game he either gives a goal away or creates a chance with Hamer bailing him out. Hoedt hasn't been perfect, but he's more consistently good than poor. Porteous can have a good game, but these errors are creeping into his game one to many at the moment so I am not surprised Udinese are sniffing.
Either a lazy link - or one with genuine undertones. But both probably born out of the links that Udinese were keen before anything was signed and it was always a ‘Pozzo’s want Porteous’ story more than it being exclusive to us when he joined. I think there is potentially mileage in Cashin coming from Derby though. How that affects this move or the rumours about Pollock going to Derby himself though, no idea.
Makes zero sense to get rid of Porteous. Granted he’s been hit or miss but so has Sierralta. With Pollock wanting out as well this would be a terrible move. Even if we do sign Cashin as the LCB cover for Hoedt, we would still need to sign another RCB.
Seems like a Zinckernagel or Healey case of signing someone because he was available rather than thinking about the needs of the team (granted, Porteous has been more of a regular than those two!)
I thought Zinc was really good - don't think he fit into the Deeney/Gray/Chalobah ethic but would have been great in this current environment.
I disagree with this, we desperately needed defensive reinforcements last season and Porteous in the short run improved us. Still think he could be a great defender if he could improve his composure.
Yeah Porto needs to tone down his Scottishness and stay on his feet. Let Hoedt do the football and you mop up his mistakes - otherwise poor Ryan Andrews is going to have to sacrifice his attacking intent to cover your arses.
RP would improve his game considerably if he stopped trying to win cheap free kicks . If a bloke on the interweb who sits in row z can see it then I'm sure the opposition watching his previous matches can as well .
Think we can safely say this is one Ismael won't be keen on, far too much upheaval at this stage in the window. Might be a test of how much Gino is prepared to impose on him.
We did need defenders, and he was an improvement on the ageing defenders we had at the time (not hard that!), but as I say, I feel we didn't think about how good he was, just that he was available
Blimey. Pozzo playing a blinder. Gut the squad even more from the summer, bring in Dennis on loan to keep fans happy and give Mogi some coin, tell Ismael to inform French that it’s all positive and he wants a squad of 11 with one back up keeper and 2 subs. Float to 16th place finish in no danger of relegation.
I thought when I read this this morning it wouldn’t gain traction. But, there are now quite a few credible sources saying this might happen. Udinese have a lot of CB’s so I’m quite surprised they’ll need another one, even if they are selling Perez. So I think we must be bringing in a first choice CB who will be an upgrade on Porto. Not even Gino would leave us with just 2 CB’s for the rest of the season (assuming Pollock is going). Pretty sure it would be with Val’s blessing too.
The thought here is if pozzo is wanting to sell at some point does he think Porto has a high ceiling and not reached so makes sense to hold onto the asset
Surely going to get someone in as a replacement? I mean maybe we need the money but we need a squad too .
If Kabasele comes back, any excitement and/or goodwill that came with Dennis signing would be gone in a flash. The whole idea that we’d be sending our first choice CB, whether you agree with it or not, would show that they aren’t serious about a ‘play off push’ and that the club is either close to sale or on its knees.
There’s no news from Sky until you scroll through the first 10 pages about Jurgen Klopp. Did you know he’s announced his departure from Liverpool at the end of the season? Surely nothing else matters
It's a rumor from a SKY journalist, being spread by pod casters Click click click - £Kerching, £Kerching, £Kerching,
Not mentioned in Andrew French’s summation of Ismael’s press conference today. Makes me more suspicious it’s true as would’ve thought it would be something that would be stamped out if not.
I doubt they would bring Kaba back, but if they did then given he's now crap he would surely only be on the bench behind Sierralta.
Yes, but I think there is an additional problem: He just isn't very good at passing a ball. Sometimes his pass can be very good, but it's far too hit and miss: he gives it away or fails to hit the right place more often. I'm not altogether sure it's a lack of composure - just poor skills. Some of his defensive stuff is very good, but bad mistakes are made as well.
Just watch him during games, he'll randomly charge out of defence and leave gaping holes. I don't know if he's been told to do it or not but it's bizarre.
He's crap. Couldn't care less if he goes as long as we get an acceptable replacement, which shouldn't be difficult.
