The thing is it's almost inevitable that the interests of the club and of Bilic are not going to be 100% aligned.

Bilic knows that he'll likely have one, maybe max two seasons here in order to get us promotion or else he'll be out - and so of course he's going to want to sign players already at their peak ready to hit the ground running in the Champ, and as many of them as possible. It'll make his job much, much easier.

However, the club also has to think long-term, beyond just the season or two Bilic is likely to be here, and that means signing players with ability, but also with potential to improve and either serve the club for many more years or provide some profit when selling. We can't afford to just splash out on players for right now.

Given us selling WTE, and the likes of Cathcart and Kabasele potentially not being here beyond this summer, even if Porteous isn't an immediate upgrade now his signing makes sense from the club's perspective in thinking ahead to next season, whether Bilic is here or not.

 

You had me at Cathcart and Kabasele not being here next season. Dreamland stuff.

 

Just have a feeling about Porteous that he'll end up being a quality player for us. Natural leader as well, how many of those have we had recently?

 

He’s been up against low quality Scottish defenders to date of course.

 

Yes though he may not get such freedom to attack the ball against better defenders. Will be interesting to see how it pans out.

 

He did say 'against BETTER defenders', so training may not count?

 

Considering Cathcart is our only CB who seems to be able to stay fit, and isn't a complete mess of late, then I guess it wouldn't surprise me if he got a 1 season extension.

 

It seems Hibs aren't really missing him - winning their first SPL game without him 6-0 vs Aberdeen!

My son first tried Irn Bru sat outside the cafe at Edinburgh castle, while a kilted bagpiper played next to is. That's pretty Scottish.

Another time we went on a speed boat trip on Loch Ness and they played some bagpipe techno at one point.

I like techno and I don't mind a bit of bagpipes. My grandad had a few bagpipe LPs he used to play at Christmas so happy memories.

Wonder if there's a club night on anywhere that does both.
