Roy Hodgson - Manager

Not sure it’s a 5hit-storm anyway and to be fair he never seems upset about anything aimed his way. To me this bloke is just a Twitter user who I have a wry smile at and disagree with about 70% of what he says. The blokes over at FTRE get far more pelted at them from what I have seen!

 

I wasn't commenting specifically in context of this bloke, just about my view of the inevitable consequence of what is effectively self-promotion in an unregulated medium. I realise I didn't make that clear.

 

Whatever you think of Hodgson’s appointment, and the club generally, at least we’ve been able to fire a bad manager and then appoint a manager in time for the next training session. Look at Everton and their circus of a managerial appointment and also WBA - who have tied Ismael down to a four year contract and though all their fans are desperate for him to be fired they can’t stump up the compo.

 

Even a club like Spurs had their embarrassing manager hunt back in the summer and ended up with their eventual appointee in Nuno being publicly known to be their 5th choice or whatever.

 

Really? Even though his team are 5th in the Championship and after the miracle he worked at Barnsley?

 

Rather like Ivic at us. Getting some results and the best defensive record in the league but really lethargic and tiresome football. Just lost 2-0 at home to Preston though to be fair that was their first home defeat of the season. If they continue on their current trajectory they won’t get playoffs given that Boro and Forest have really picked up.

 

And then they went back to their first choice in the end who they were too tight to stump up for in the summer!

I heard they might Gopher that kind of format in future.

 

Apparently they’ve been dreadful for months. Would be surprised if they cling onto the playoffs the way things are going.

 

West Brom's football is terrible. Barnsley played terrible football as well but had a one-off season where everything went right for them.

 

If my shyte maths is correct, we are now only one manager away from having half the managers we've had in the clubs history pre-Pozzo

It took us 108 years to have 34 managers pre-pozzo
It's taken us just under 10 years to get through 16 managers with pozzo.

I'm sure the maths is wrong but it's probably not far off.

I only remember Harry taking the p1ss out of Zaha after our home game with them when Allardyce was manager, did he continue to do it when Hodgson was appointed?

Seems a top bloke, and def still has his head screwed on. I'm very positive about this appointment.

My main concern is that as with 19/20 we won't have quite enough games left in the season to turn things around.

 

He seemed to be quite clear that he’s a short-term appointment. Said something like “when our time at the club expires after four months, hopefully Watford will remain a Premier League club.” He did then say something there was a possibility they could reassess in the summer but he seemed very open and clear that he and Ray are viewing it as a fourth month mission.

Thought he was very engaging and frank and spoke with far fewer platitudes than any manager we’ve had for a while.

 

Always liked Roy. Really good appointment.

My concern is (as Roy also says) that the players are simply not good enough.

 

Feel more encouraged after listening to Roy's interview.... At the end of the day though you can be as well drilled as you like but if players not good enough it counts for nothing. Spoke well though and a good spell of decent coaching can only help us.

 

I don't mind Roy, seems like a decent guy who knows his stuff. I don't know if anyone feels the same but I have absolutely no interest in watching interviews with new head coaches. Maybe it's because they don't last long and it's not worth getting invested, or more likely is the fact that I just don't care what they have to say. I obviously haven't watched it but it doesn't matter what Hodgson said tonight because the players just aren't good enough and don't have the b0llocks for a relegation fight.

 

I’ve watched some of these previously and would broadly agree with you but Hodgson was so much more engaging and interesting and honest than Ivic or Munoz were in their equivalents.

 

I didn’t watch it - did he actually float the idea that the players just might not be good enough?

I hope so - that’ll be one across the bow of Gino and his shoddy squad building for this season.
