Robert Page's Welsh Euro 2021 Team

Due to Ryan Giggs being a stupid bully as regards his history with Women, ex WAtford dude Robert Page will take care of the Wales team for the finals.

So far he's been 1000 times a better manager than the meek Giggs. He's very vocal and encouraging to the team whilst they're playing. He makes clinical and decisive decisions. Making 4 substitutions at once vs Albania changed the game for the better.

I don't think anyone Welsh is expecting too much of us to be honest. A group with Italia, Switzerland and Turkey will be tricky. Obviously we got to the semi finals in the last Euro's, so any team, even North Macedonia are capable of doing better than expected.

Listening to the Welsh commentary on S4C, including the always humorous ex-Hornet Malcolm Allen, Page has been praised.

Italy will win the group but can see Wales getting something in the other 2 games if they play well.

That 2nd/3rd spot will be open.

We were lucky to get a draw vs Switzerland. Next match vs Turkey is a must win. Not impossible :-/

I thought Soyuncu looked like an absolute bombscare against Italy. He’s a good player but easily wound up when targeted with pace. Drawn miles out of position for Italy’s first because he was being over enthusiastic.

I think you’ll do them comfortably.

Local rivalry. For the same reason I want L*ton to crash and burn. I would expect (and accept) any other home nations fans to want England to fail.

But not all of us are 100% English, both of my grandfathers were English but one grandmother was Scottish and the other Welsh. Although my preference is England, I quite like to see Wales and Scotland do OK, they're quite plucky as well.

Indeed, I have grandparents which were Irish and English, but local rivalry has always been and always will. Inside I'm 100% Welsh.

My most foreign ancestry is a grandparent from Yorkshire, but I like to see the other home countries do well. My best World Cup memory is Gerry Armstrong’s winner for Northern Ireland in ‘82.

Wales deserved winners. Bale with a staggered run up penalty, blazed over the bar.

Glad to see Page celebrate. Lovely man.

Against a team with zero to play for. Lucky to play Italy when they were already qualified. Tragedy that they go through rather than Switz who played them off the park.

I always support Italy when England exit but on this occasion I'm adopting a duel approach!
I'm really enjoying watching this Italy squad play.
The most comprehensive 1-0 victory,Bale's blaze over notwithstanding.

Does anybody else get annoyed at him being referred to as Rob Page? In 25-odd years I don't recall anybody calling him Rob, always Robert - or am I just getting old and forgetful?

Nice for us to qualify, we will probably get Russia or Finland in the first knockout round. Today, we were very lucky to play Italy whilst they weren't as strong as they have been. The Swiss may be a stronger team than us but football is football.

True - they were lucky in that in the first game.

And clearly Turkey weren't as good as everyone thought.

Fun fact. Malcolm Allen use to be a member at the gym I worked at about 20 years ago. My biggest claim to fame playing in centre midfield alongside him in a charity match when I was 17. A top bloke!!

As for Rob Page, delighted he's doing well as Wales Manager and is making the most of his chance! If he doesn't get the Welsh job permanently this summer, i'm sure he will land himself a decent job, probably managing in the Championship! Future Watford manager?

Certainly from a Watford perspective you’re absolutely right. He was always ‘Robert’ while he was with us. I can imagine GT always calling him that and being protective of him but still confident enough to appoint him captain at age 22.

I think he had 2 jobs at Northampton and Port Vale before but was pretty young and wet behind the ears management wise.

Certainly got a lot right in this tournament and getting the best out of key players.

They’re a small county about the size of Wales famous for their castles built by the English, a prince who is English, having the smallest city in the UK, and having a separate tenor section at national anthem singing.

They’re also very proud and are good at fighting, except against the Romans.
They believe in dragons, most of their men play with funny shaped balls and they are very inventive....

Russia, Denmark or Finland next, all beatable.

    Come on Wales...

Turkey were the whipping boys so just a question of who got to play Italy when they had nothing to play for and got the easier game.

You sound rather bitter about Wales getting through.

Turkey were expected to be a strong contender 2nd going with many pundits and certainly not lose to Wales and Switzerland only scoring 1 goal and letting in 5 or surrender so easily against Italy in the first game.

I suspect they probably had an air of complacency about them and clearly set out in the first game for a point not knowing how good Italy are.
