With Kiko sold and Ngakia clearly not fancied he made do with a left footer RWB.

That issue is solved now so Friday night needs to be what this formation is meant to be. Also, if that means dropping one of our front 3 then he needs to do it.

Pick the best team to fit the formation and system he’s decided to use. Be brave but be sensible.

From what I hear we’ve been on the phone to reps of every club in the PL (and plenty overseas) trying to get a nibble.

Agreed, it isn’t an easy start. Hopefully we can get the balance right over the next few weeks.

I'm sure there are agents causing nuisances of themselves in amongst it all (sadly they wouldn't be doing their job if they weren't) - but I've not heard a single word regarding us actively 'trying' to sell them.

Love that. I know some mock the players applauding the fans but especially at away games I think it shows respect and I’m all for it

It’s a fair point but then for games like last night we should have a plan B and change the formation to suit

Agree, but willing to give RE the benefit of the doubt that plans B-Z are being worked on, and he'll learn from games like tonight.

Absolutely agree. Did feel it was left too long last night but want him to succeed and certainly willing to give him time

Didnt change things quickly enough last night, should have switched to his favoured 352 at HT and jerked off Dennis.

Not if it’s to the detriment of the more pressing Plan A which is wobbling like the legs of a newly born camel whilst the hyenas of Gino and his Rolodex of unemployed managers is lurking for the kill .

Got his subs right tonight. Pedro for me faded badly 2nd half and swapped Bayo and Asprilla when the latter gave away some soft fouls which helped. Biggest thing is you can see the team fighting to the last.

He is a relatively new manager and trying to find his feet. One of his first tasks is to build a team spirit, where they fight for each other and the club in general. He is also looking for work rate and passion on the pitch. This energy sapping stance will not be easy for older and lazier players. He is seeking to create a good and honest relationship between management and players. In all those areas, things are clearly improving and poles apart from last season.

He needs to work on some on field issues. If we are honest, only for poor finishing, great goalkeeping and some luck, we could have shipped a hatful of goals in each one of the games so far, but this is not necessarily the defenders’ fault. We have a clear problem in progressing the ball through midfield, retaining possession and creating chances.

From the interviews that Rob has given, he has been refreshingly honest and he recognises the problem and I am confident that he will work on this. Hopefully he has the coaching skills and staff to focus on the transitioning of play from back to front. Louza will make a difference, but no matter who plays, we can’t just shunt the ball back to the opponents and hope to hold out. Perhaps he looked at the first three opponents, and adopted a fortress type approach and may broaden the tactics with less threatening teams.

The new centre forward, Davis, looks well capable of holding the ball up and linking play, which should help.

I believe that Rob is a very good character and I am positive that he will get a system of play that is less reliant on counter attacks to score.

I have a positive feeling, but think there will be bumps on the road before it clicks into place.

I like him. He cares, that much is obvious.

I hope he’s properly back by Pozzbury, because he’s the first manager since Silva that really made you feel like he could build something exciting.

I don’t like how the season has started very similarly to under Ivic, he was very successful previously playing a certain way, yet he couldn’t play that way with us because he didn’t have the players. Yes, you want your manager to be flexible, but I think ultimately success comes from your manager being able to set his teams up how he wants and for most mangers that is one particular formation. Personally I’d much rather he was given the personnel to play how he wants, rather than force him to adapt to the players he’s given. I think the former is far more likely to yield long term results, otherwise what was the point in hiring him? We could’ve just chucked another generic unknown foreign manager in to be a patsy for the owners.

In short, I hope we back him so he can play the formation he wants to play as the very best managers have a philosophy and a way of playing.

I’ve been impressed so far with RE.

Shows loyalty to players when deserved, for example sticking with Sema and Kamara as WB’s for game 2. Yet happy to make a change to the team if clearly needed, eg Chowdhury straight into the team as we clearly were outfought in midfield first 2 games. kabasele the CB to miss out and for me the correct call as he (IMO) was our weakest CB v WBA.

Has a way he wants to play, yet has been able to be flexible with the players available during this transfer window period (we are certainly not the only team going through this)

Not played great yet, but decent work rate from everyone and a clear team spirit that has seen us able to dig in and grind out the win.

The link between the club and us fans is coming through Rob himself, as was suggested would happen from the club a few months back, and clearly has started well as the ‘feel good’ factor has been noticed both on here and at the ground (so people have said).

All in all a very good start.

My only concern with Rob Edwards so far is how he reacted to when things weren’t going our way against West Brom. When the cameras panned to Edwards during that match, he looked completely lost and without ideas. Ten Hag at Man Utd had exactly the same look the other day against Brentford, and also the same when they played Brighton.

It’s great that we’re getting the points on the board so far, but we’ve been fairly fortunate to get the 7 out of 9. Had we not ridden our luck, we could have quite quickly seen a rough patch of form kicking in and that can see managers fluster. I’m hoping he has the ability to cope with those circumstances.

Other than that, I genuinely do like Rob Edwards and I can tell he just gets it. The way he speaks about the community and fans shows he knows what this club’s about. That’s enough to get the fans on his side, so it now boils down to getting the players and owners to show that same determination and support.

Definitely good and bad moments so far. Like both of them and he's certainly bought in some spirit to the club.
Won't judge him yet until he gets the players in he wants and system. Will be able to judge a little more after our first defeat whenever that comes. I believe you can learn so much about someone and collectively after this happens.

That's a pretty limited snapshot though isn't it? Half the time it's the story telling that determines why the Sky director chooses that camera shot in the first place. "Oh, Watford are on the backfoot here and being outplayed. [Camera shot of Edwards looking pensive and thinking for a minute]. "See, Geoff, Edwards doesn't know how to react here. Is it his inexperience... blah blah blah."

He seemed pretty active on the touchline during the Burnley match to me. Think he made tweaks against WBA too, although they weren't particularly effective.

    Good News :
The most stand-out feature of Forest Green's team stats this season appears their pressing ability - in line with their high-octane style they seem to favour pressing very high up the pitch and allow their opponents few opportunities to play out from the back.

Another tick in Edwards' favour is that unlike some of the other candidates we've been linked to he's actually managed to win the division he was in with his team."

"The additional bit of information from this article which I did like though is it stating that he's happy to make changes and substitutions as early as half-time if things aren't going to plan. I would hope he uses most subs in most games allow the youth to come through as a result as well as changing game plans etc. when needed

  33. Looking at the timing of most of his subs, does he really think things have been going to plan in our first 5 games at half time?

I noticed that RE mentioned that he went to see PNE before we played them. Maybe a small point but I thought it showed dedication, attention to detail and commitment being prepared to go the extra mile. How many of our recent managers would've done that?
