Of course there are financial reasons, we are skint. The owners are selling anything saleable and doctoring the books with those that really aren't.
I think basically Raj is an old fashioned type target man, and TC wants a speedy spearhead attacker for the way he wants us to play..?
Imagine we’re a goal down with 20 minutes to go and we want to bring on a striker either to replace or play up front with Jebbison. If that striker were Rajovic, as a fan you would think: “He’s not great, but he might just get us that equaliser” and there would be hope. But if that striker is Bayo you would think: “That won’t make a blind bit of difference” and there is no hope. I really don’t get what Cleverley, or anyone else for that matter, sees in Bayo. He runs about willingly, but has absolutely none of the other attributes required of a central forward.
He doesn't fit in to Tom's style of play. Looks like he would have been third choice and therefore won't get much game time. Not on a big wage apparently so not about cost saving. Maybe we are doing what's best for Raj and playing regularly in a league of a similar level to the one we're at will actually help him and us in the future. We press as a team which he struggles to do. We want the striker to make runs in behind the defence which he can't do. We aim to play at a fast pace which he struggles to do. Seem quite sensible to me but I know that for the rest of the season when we lose game it will be blamed on not having Rajovic. Pretty much to a man on here he has been described as fairly awful to absolutely atrocious and we've replaced him with a player who half the league apparently wanted and is very highly thought of. Good luck to him and hopefully he will come back a better player.
Why would you want to keep someone who has a good record of scoring crucial goals when coming off the bench for the last 20 minutes or so!! Utter madness on relying on Bayo who will have his mind on next season and Jebbinson who I fear will be a damp squib.
Maybe Doumbia has impressed TC and the other coaches. We didn't and don't play to his strengths but would still of been useful off the bench imo. But it doesn't matter now anyways.
Perhaps TC is thinking of turning Kayembe into a striker? I wish him well in Denmark and hope he does well for his career and himself. If it improves his overall game and he does come back next season a different sort of player (for the better) than fair enough. But he might do very well and decide to stay, and in that case we would need to sign a perm striker in the next Summer window.
"15 other clubs" apparently, though no idea if they were all Championship. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/24541312.watford-beat-15-clubs-secure-jebbison-loan-move/
I wonder why the football authorities cannot work out how to close a window gently? Its either bloody rude or just borders on violence towards the clubs to slam it.... or maybe the hinges just need some WD40?
United wanted Obbi Oulare. We are very good at beating these teams to secure our #1 targets. "If we want them, we will get them".
This is the only part of it makes sense to me, albeit I'm not convinced it alone fully justifies the decision. As it is, Rajovic was never going to be a starter for us in the league under Cleverley and I'm not sure his all-round game and mobility will ever be enough for that to be the case. What he is good for though is being thrown on late on in matches when we're chasing the game, are behind and need a goal, and have the opposition pinned back deep. However, how often are the circumstances going to arise where we're going to need that and Cleverley will want to use him for that sort of approach? Maybe 30 minutes every 2 or 3 games? It certainly isn't going to help Rajovic develop making only 30 minute cameos off the bench every couple of weeks to stand around the penalty box, whereas starting every week at an okay level will help him improve his all-round game and match sharpness more. Maybe it'll never be to the point where Cleverley wants to keep him, but him rotting on the bench certainly won't help him. Now, that is still taking a more long-term view on him as a player and of our development of the squad. In the here and now, purely for selfish reasons from the club, if they really want to do as well this season as possible then keeping him as an option to come off the bench to help occasionally pick us up a few points here and there would clearly be the most sensible decision, and I doubt the financials of his move would change that either. So maybe he simply wasn't happy to only be an occasional bench option, and so Cleverley rather than being a 2w@t and telling him to stay on the bench half the season for the sake of the team, was instead accommodating with letting him leave for regular playing time. That's maybe the best thing for him and the club long-term, but not for the here and now, and suggests the club are maybe also fine with this being a season of transition and just surviving in the division. I'm not sure where some of the suggestions have come from that Rajovic wasn't happy here have come from though? I can understand if he wasn't happy with playing so infrequently, but his attitude has always been very good and he's tried hard whenever he's been on the pitch. He also seems popular enough in the dressing room. So I don't think his issue is with the club per se, but rather the lack of opportunities he's getting.
Seems so. TBF He might have been a good team mate etc. Afterall isn't that what Tom is supposed to have brought? Some unity and togetherness to the squad...
This is a pie in the sky dream but I hope we’ve put in some sort of clause that we get first option on Mathias Kvistgaarden, Yuito Suzuki or Filip Bundgaard. I can categorically deny this as to ever happening. Someone with better knowledge than me in regards to the Danish league can correct me, but based on what I’ve seen of them, all three of them are better strikers than Rajovic. Really doesn’t make sense that they are signing him. He will be 4th choice there. I would be surprised if he plays more minutes there than what he would have done here.
Come on people, Rajovic is a donkey of the highest order! Yes he's scored a few tap-ins, but he offers nothing to the team in general. He can't run, control the ball, hold the ball, pass or win a 50/50 header, and having him on the pitch is often like playing with ten men.
It looks like we've made a deal with Manchester City. We loan them Raj and they'll give us De Bryne and Haarland for the season and pay all the wages. Gino's done it again.* *unconfirmed
Don't understand this at all. We can all see that at the moment Raj isn't Pele but he scores goals. He reminds me of a young Ross Jenkins before GT arrived and turned him into the greatest centre forward of all time. Daft to let him go
That’s my opinion yes. I would imagine that all three of their current strikers will get big money moves in the next 12-24 months.
Brondby actually play a very similar 3421 system to us, as it happens. Suzuki and Bundgaard play almost exclusive as one of the two AMs behind the striker - so no competition for Rajovic there. Kvistgaarden has been playing as the main striker recently and looks good. However, most of last season they played Ohi Omoijuanfo - who is very much a more traditional target man similar to Rajovic - as the main striker, with Kvistgaarden often playing as one of the two AMs behind him. Omoijuanfo has been injured a fair bit of late, and seems to have fallen out of favour, so Rajovic will probably be ahead of him in the pecking order, and then they could well drop Kvistgaarden back in to AM to rotate with Bundgaard and Suzuki, with Bundgaard more often on the bench. Or they could just have Rajovic and Kvistgaarden rotating as their main front two and sideline Omoijuanfo, who is 30 and whose contract expires next summer anyway. So their preferred front three might be: Suzuki Kvistgaarden Rajovic I do like the look of Kvistgaarden. Celtic have tried to sign him in the recent past but failed. I think he'd probably be more of a natural in the Champ in the AM spot or as the second striker in a front 2 though. If Brondby wanted to keep Rajovic then that would obviously be potential leverage to swap for one of their players, but if Kvistgaarden were to come here then of our current squad we already have Chak, Baah and Vata who play in his preferred areas in a similar way. As an aside, I'm not sure if you noticed but Norwich signed attacking midfielder Oscar Schwartau from Brondby a few weeks ago for £2million. He hasn't played much and is only 18, so it's difficult to get a gauge on him as a prospect relative to Kvistgaarden, but he seems fairly similar to Bundgaard and the two rotated a fair bit. He looks a bit like a young Todd Cantwell.
Who's worse Rajovic, Bayo, Davis or Jason Lee? I vote Rajovic tbh. I can't understand how he's making a living in football.
How do you know he won't play. I presume if they are loaning him, they have watched him and fits in to the profile they were after.
