I don't agree. This is from a column by a guy that analyses the VAR decisions each week and has a direct line to the PGMOL talking about a similar incident. May be refereed differently on the continent of course, but don't think it would be a red over here these days. VAR review: Long gone are the days where a little kick is seen as a red card, as it was when England midfielder David Beckham was sent off against Argentina at the World Cup in 1998. Today, referees look for an act which has a level of brutality to it. While Van Dijk should probably have been booked for throwing his boot back towards Havertz, this would be seen as petulant rather than violent conduct.
It’ll be interesting to see if the club try and get out of the Jebbison deal in January and bring Rajovic back. Jebbison has been an appalling signing. I know a lot of the spreadsheet fanatics were lauding the signing but he hasn’t shown even a glimpse of being useful.
I think we just tell Bournemouth he's not going to be playing and negotiate a reduction in his wages. They won't want to see him simply training with our Development squad and then they can send him out to a League 1/2 club.
I’d be shocked if Rajovic comes back, Cleverley clearly doesn’t fancy him, yeah Jebbison has been ****, but Bayo is clearly our first choice
He might not fancy Rajovic, but there is no doubt that Rajovic is a better back up option than Jebbison has proven to be and that will likely sway the decision. Currently all our hopes are pinned on Bayo, which is a poor position to be in.
In the event that we sack Jebbison off, I think it's much more likely that we either bring in someone new or see what Doumbia is about, I don't think Cleverley will want to piss off Rajovic for the sake of a few minutes off the bench here or there
Part of me would like to see more of Doumbia, he is a full international for a decent country and he looked decent against MK, but I understand why he hasn't been seen more
Given the minutes that Doumbia has been given so far, with Bayo, Jebb & Raj (when he was here) all selected ahead of him, it's clear that TC doesn't see him as a serious first team option atm. If we return Jebb (which may not be possible without paying a sig chunk of his wages) we have to get another striker option in. Maybe if we are still top 10 come jan, they might be tempted to strengthen a little on the off chance of a PO spot.
I agree about Doumbia, although I do think he will develop into a good player. However, I think it would be criminal not to recruit a new centre forward who can hold the ball up in January. Watford are in the top six and have beaten most of the better teams (at home). A small but significant improvement in attack could make all the difference in being able to stay in contention. My view is that TC has rather backed himself into a corner in being left with Bayo as the only real option by getting rid of Rajovic and not fully backing Jebbison. With Bayo clearly not being good enough he should have given Jebbison a run of, say, six starts come what may to try and establish him in the team as first choice. Unfortunately that ship has sailed now.
That won't happen, as he played for Bournemouth in August, and for us since, he can't play for a 3rd different club in a season as per FIFA rules.
Good shout. Plus why would they accept a reduction in his wages? We signed a deal and if we've not learned from the Hause saga then more fool us.
Obviously i wasnt aware of the 3 club rule clarified by Otter. However surely one of the major reasons for sending a player out of loan is to improve him by getting regular game time. If he's not getting that, as manager I would want him to go somewhere else to get that experience. Of course Bournemouth are not going to cancel the loan, but they might have agreed a reduction in wages. Say we are paying £10k per week, they might have agreed to a reduction to say £7k per week if they could have got another club to stump up the balance of £3k. However my argument is redundant now.
I love it when someone references a relatively recent player that I'd completely forgotten existed. What was the issue there? We signed him on loan and then he got injured?
Think so. But he was also on the 'gram whining I think and spent at least the last few months of the lone training back at Villa.
"Anyone can edit Wiki" On 22 August 2022, Hause joined Watford on a season-long loan.[28] Whilst on loan, Hause suffered repeated knee problems that limited his game time. In January 2023, Watford attempted to terminate Hause's loan,[29] however Villa refused the request and Hause remained at the club until the end of the season, but was not included in the squad for the second half of the Championship season, so did not feature at all.[30] The following season, after undergoing multiple knee surgeries, it was reported that Hause was training with the Villa's U21 team in a bid to gain fitness and find a move away from the club.[31] In January 2024, Hause returned to first team training for the first time since his last competitive appearance, 15 months ago whilst on loan with Watford.[32]
The red card for kicking an opponent last month showed he had a bit of fire in his belly (he scored earlier in the game anyway).
Brondby (in the yellow and blue kit) drew 2-2 away at Sønderjyske after leading 2-0. Mileta Rajovic played for the entire game, although the Brondby head coach did make five substitutions. The first Brondby goal was the result of a terrible misplaced pass by the Sønderjyske goalkeeper, but Rajovic took Brondby's second goal well (outsprinting the Sønderjyske defence rather than a tap in) and later almost scored again with a long range shot.
Yes yes yes, but none of that matters when assessing a striker. Was he "easy on the eye" ? Did he run gracefully ?
I'm more interested in his metrics and his numbers, far more important than scoring a goal. If you concentrate on spreadsheet analysis then you get the bright lights of Jebbison instead, and who wouldn't want that?
I'd have liked Bayo, Rajovic and Jebbison. This way you have options and variations and cover for injury. Right now if Bayo got injured where would we turn to? Jebbison as I said when we signed him, wasn't the complete answer to our centre forward problems as some people absolutely suggested, but he was worth a punt as an unknown quantity developing from the bench. As for having Raj back? Must be worth considering, but I'd either keep Jebbision as well or look at finding someone else so we have cover. If Raj leaves in the summer, we also have nothing! So would be worth spending half the season acclimatising another forward with potential.
That would imply they can if they want? I think we'll see him in a Watford shirt again sooner or later.
The fact he's scoring goals like this in the League Two equivalent Danish league is proof beyond all reasonable doubt that we should have kept him, given him a new 10 year deal, the captaincy, the head coach job and the keys to the town. What a player.
