I think we more swapped him for Araujo (who also doesn't score or really touch the ball). Assombalonga seemed a last minute cheap signing for depth.

Come back Scott 'The Crow' Bayo! We were all wrong when we said you were hopeless and we wanted rid of you.

    We're sorry Chachi.

Baio. His best role was in Bugsy Malone.

None of our players could punch their way out of a paper bag. Spineless cowards.

I see we’ve got the usual Binary revisionist nonsense going on that we always get. Bayo was also utterly useless as well, irrespective of fee, neither he nor Davis are remotely close to good enough to have us in the promotion mix. It’s like saying would you like to be shot or stabbed. The answer is not one or the other, it’s neither, the outcome would be near identical with Bayo as it is Davis. Gray would actually be the better alternative as he is better than both and would’ve been free.

It’s amazing how our players get better and better the longer they don’t pay for us, hence why everyone thought we just need players like Louza back and we’d win 10 in a row.

I have to say after Louza’s impact on his first return this season (Stoke?)

I was convinced he’d stand out here, he hasn’t so far, extremely disappointing.

He wasn't "utterly useless" - he could stick the ball in the net, which is something are other forwards are even more useless at. Scoring goals is our biggest problem. He had the best goals per minute record for any of our more used forwards, which is something.

He wasn't great, but he did have a use, similar to how even Gray did sometimes chip in with key goals (also usually off the bench).

He'd have been more preferable to throw on than Assombalonga or Araujo yesterday when chasing a goal, for example.

It's not to say that we'd get promotion with him either, but he does offer something we're lacking. Your claiming him as "utterly useless" is clearly more "binary" than my argument as well.

Mate he was utterly useless, hence why he was packed off out of the club in the last window. You’re utterly deluded if you think any manager has that much power for it to be their decision. Hence why Edwards said he was pleased with him. You’re just trying rearrange the deckchairs on the titanic at this point.

    Davis = utter crap
    Bayo = utter crap

Whichever why you try and present any of our steaming turd of a strikers, this season the club has just massively ****ed up and didn’t manage to buy as one that gave us any chance of being in the promotion mix.

Just save yourself a bit of time and angst and accept that.

I listened to the playback of the DNSYE podcast after the game and it seems all callers felt like we do right now. Even the host, who is generally pretty upbeat even if we lose, had a very mellow tone to his voice. Quite a fair bit of bad language (as you would expect), but even regulars like "Uncle Ron" and "Wendover Horn" we almost lost for words for just how bad we were/have become since the xmas break. It's like trying to solve an algebra equation while chewing bubble gum. Players' have either given up no matter who the coach is, don't care and cannot wait to get out of the club, or doing the bare minimum till the end of the season. Ten games left, 30 points up for grabs, I dread to guess what sum total we amount of those 30 now.

In the cold light of morning, after the emotion of it all has gone, I'm thinking that what I went to watch yesterday was pretty straightforward to assess.

Watford looked like an under-performing set of players, who are low on confidence, trying to do what a new boss has told them to do - and struggling.

It was enough to make me wonder why football clubs might expect a 'new manager bounce'.

What I saw yesterday seemed more like 'new manager yips' -- which is understandable and even possibly to be expected in the circumstances.

We were bad before, and we made it harder - not easier - for the team to succeed by changing the gaffer.

It's just an observation. I don't have an answer. I'd like to think that the people running a football club would have a deeper, richer, and more nuanced understanding of what makes a team fail than any of us - because there's no doubt it's complex.

But changing the head coach is unlikely to solve all the problems if they're affected by things like the leadership's culture, human resources strategy, club communications strategy, etc, etc.

And changing the gaffer brings its own risks of further failure.

I'd love to hear a proper rational justification of Watford's approach to head coaches, because the correlation with results on the pitch suggests the approach isn't working.

Not with our blunt strike force we won't. Then you have Sarr who shoots the ball out for a throw in, Davis who cannot be bothered to make a run and lumber around and then you have Assambolonga, who needs no introduction. No goals in our last two, actually only scored more than one goal in less than half of our games. For a side said to have "one of the best squads" we certainly haven't shown it in the goal scoring department. Put that down to poor coaching or low confidence, Bayo was rubbish but he is still in our top five goal scorers this season with four goals. Pedro has 10 (in all comps) but goal scoring remains a serious problem for us and has been this season and last season regardless of the division we were in. We have not found a competant strike force since Iggy/Deeney. I hoped Bayo/Manaj could form one but yeah...

He was crap but could at least score. We don’t seem to have any players capable of doing this now.

I think we just have a very ordinary squad, containing a mix of failed journeyman and no real leaders in the pack.
Add to that we have few players that are happy holding the ball or even running g with it.
Then go through multiple managers and tactics, and they start overthinking everything they do on the pitch.
Confidence "in each other" is shot, so there's no recovery from here....

I'm halfway through but will listen to the rest tomorrow. I think this one so far has been the most universal one where focus has turned to Pozzo.
The past few pods I still hear people talking with confidence about Manga and Costa etc and what they will do next season - from my POV I just think this confidence is misplaced as there is no real sign that Pozzo will truly relinquish control. Does seem many of those who think he will were also the ones that thought we'd walk the championship?

Bayo is still more of a goalscorer than Davis, and we've slid even further down the table since he's left.

Maybe he also wouldn't have been enough to get us promotion, but he still could help more than his replacements.

Think individually, there's not much wrong with most of the players who play for us on a regular basis at this level, even some of the much maligned ones, but as an overall package, they don't fit, and we don't have a prime Deeney, or even a Ben Watson or Guedioura to knock heads together when the going gets tough

He's now got the highest non penalty goals/min ratio in the squad (of players to play >300 mins or more). JP slightly ahead in terms of all goals, but will drop to 2nd highest if he doesn't score in the next game.

I didn’t watch the match yesterday which is probably a good thing but sounds like another inept performance. Clearly it’s too early to fully judge whether Wilder can get some improvement from these players but regardless it is becoming clear the decision to sack Edwards was a terrible error as we haven’t had the reset of strategy that we all wanted and now it appears motivating our players is becoming almost an impossible job .

I’m not quite sure what to say at this point We aren’t getting promoted this season . I still hold out some hope that bringing in Manga will perhaps lead to a change and we will bring in a manager next season who will be backed medium to long term . We need that change and if it doesn’t happen I’m not sure where the club is going.

Clearly, we are in so much **** that promotion was deemed a necessity, and since it wasn't looking likely under Edwards, it wasn't an 'error' in that regard...it rather begs the question why we bothered in the first place, or how it got to such a situation where promotion was deemed so necessary
