How are we getting our football fix? Going to non-league/lower league, watching the World Cup from your armchair, or are we simply going to have a break from football? I'm planning to go to St Albans City, it's something I've always felt I should do more of, no excuses now not to, especially as Mrs Hogg-DEENEY!!! loves St Albans!

Not really interested in international football and the tournament being in Qatar makes it even more unappealing. I’ll either go and watch some non-league or just have a break from football for a couple of weeks.

I'm doing Barnet v Torquay next Saturday, toying with the idea of Leyton Orient v Bradford on December 3rd and probably Wealdstone at some point as they have a cracking bar!

I'll be doing what I've done every World Cup:

Cooking the national dish of each country. Saudi Arabia won it last time with Kebab el Mirou.

I’m all in for the Qatar experience.

I’m going to hire some slave labourers to re-landscape the garden but murder them periodically to keep things interesting.

To make things REALLY interesting you should build 7 brand new gardens which will never be used after the World Cup!

Well I'm not watching it. But I might do some decorating over the next few weeks. Anything is better than watching Gareth Southgate's gormless look on the touchline.

Most of the games seem to be on when people are at work or probably be out.

I notice England v USA is a Friday night.

Pubs will love that - police not so.

Pre-Covid I used to go occasionally to Stevenage or Barnet and once to St Albans with friends who support them. Wealdstone might be fun, but I still think of that as Ruislip Manor’s ground from when I grew up in that area. None of that is so appealing if the weather is bad, so I’ll probably just watch the England and Wales games and ignore the rest of the World Cup.

No way I'm watching any ceremony and any dreadful punditry where they cut to an image of 'peaceful' Qatar as a reminder of how FIFA can heal the world.

Really lost all interest in football over the past few weeks, I just hit a point where I’d had enough of both Watford and the rest of it. So certainly no plans to seek out anything else. I don’t really know how I’ll feel about the WC until it starts, I can’t get onboard with it at the moment due to the timing and the fact it was a totally corrupt decision to hold it where it is. I’m thinking it might end up like the Winter Olympics though, when that turns up on the TV and you end up getting pulled in by it.

Same here. Made my first trip down to Loughborough Dynamo last weekend and loved it so more of that.

Likewise, I think they might have found a way to make international football even less appealing.

I'm not sure about this WC .
Back in '78 there was a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth about Argentina holding
the tournament given the dubious activities and practices going on in that country at
    that time .
Ultimately everyone still went with the exception of Johann Cruyff and maybe a few others
who backed up their words with action.
Arguably Cruyff's absence cost Holland the title with Argentina benefitting.

I’m quite interested in non-league football (been to quite a few big matches, the most recent being Hampton & Richmond vs Braintree in the NLS play-off final, what a let-down that was) and your garden analogy reminds me of when Histon were going for promotion to the Football League (look where they are now!) and they weren’t liked by a lot of other clubs’ fans (think Forest Green, Fleetwood or Salford getting promoted, but much smaller). One Oxford fan said if they let Histon into the FL they might as well let his back garden host league football!

I actually felt like that during much of 2012, the other reason being that football has never been my top interest and I’m more a music fan (especially back then). It was the Pozzos, much though they seem to be despised by many right now, that revived my interest in Watford at a time when once again we seemed to be going nowhere except possibly League 1.

I mean... we've had the last few World Cups in South Africa, Brazil, Russia and now Qatar. All of which are complete basket case countries for one reason or another. It's not just Fifa that has sold out. If you fundamentally disagree with anything Qatar has touched, then you should probably avoid London as they are the largest private landowners of our capital city.

I hate the idea of it being in Qatar and I’m certainly not as invested in this World Cup as I have been in previous tournaments - but I am an avid England fan (sounds like I’m in the minority though on here!) and I do get swept up in tournaments.

There’s a lot I don’t like about international football but I’m not totally turned off it like a lot seem to be these days. So I’ll be watching the games etc like always.

I understand Qatar are the host nation (have they ever qualified for a World Cup before?) but they could’ve picked a better opponent than Ecuador, who aren’t even a second tier South American team - even Senegal, never mind the Netherlands.

I’m not so much bothered about Qatar hosting it as the fact that a World Cup mid-season in November-December just doesn’t seem right, and I think along with the widespread discontent about it being held in Qatar and reluctance for some fans to travel there, it will affect the atmosphere at the games somewhat.

Just how the draw was done

They were teams drawn as A1 and A2.

Ecuador seem to do well in South American terms tbf despite the fact they are a small nation.

Accommodation and costs seems to be an issue for fans in Qatar .

This has at least something to do with the altitude Quito is found above sea level, and they way they exploit the fact that they are used to it and no one else is. They were even banned from doing it, for a short while in the 00's...

Nitpicking here, but Bolivia are used to it, and I think Colombia are too, they also have had some famous results at altitude which stick out!

Watford benefit from having the only pitch below ground level in the League.
