Welcome to my prediction league, the rules for which are going to be similar to how it was last season but there will be a few changes, the rules in bold are the ones that are different to last season: All participating players choose a team from the current week's fixtures. If your chosen team win, you will accumulate points based on how many consecutive correct outcomes you get. If your chosen team draw or lose, you will get 0 points and your accumulator resets. *See rule 14 for changes. If a match involving your team is abandoned or postponed, your accumulator will remain in tact however you cannot choose a match that is highly unlikely to take place due to FA Cup/weather or Covid likely to postpone it unless it's been pushed to the midweek immediately following a weekend. During the remainder of the competition you must choose each team at least once but you cannot use a team twice until 14 rounds have passed since you last used them. To enter the competition simply make a selection in any week, I'll do this in a separate thread, if you miss round 1 it doesn't matter you can start round 2 on 0 points. If you are running late, you can enter provided there is at least one remaining fixture not yet started in the round involving a team that you have not chosen. If you forget to enter a round your accumulator automatically resets to zero. The winner will be the person with the most points and have at some point chosen all 20 teams. I'll include midweek fixtures when there's a round of them. A weekend round of fixtures starting from a Friday or a Saturday will be posted by the Wednesday, a midweek round will be posted by the Sunday. This will limit overlapping of rounds but that may not always be possible later in the season. As the Premier League only has 20 teams, the list of available teams will be 7 instead of 9. Teams will be grouped into sections of A/B/C, the big 6 clubs will be A and the other 14 teams will be split into two groups of 7. You can choose a C team in any round, a B team cannot be chosen in consecutive weeks and an A team cannot be chosen within 3 rounds.* There will be no optional draw insurances but instead implied ones to balance things up. See below. * The reason for this is to prevent choosing a big team as much as possible, so if on any given week you choose a team from section A, you can't choose another team from A for the next two rounds, likewise if you choose a team in section B you can't choose a B team the following round. You can choose a C team in any round. Draw Insurance To clarify rule 14. If you choose an A team and they don't win, you lose and your accumulator resets. If you choose a B team playing another B team or a C team and they don't win, you lose and your accumulator resets. The same applies to a B team playing an A team at home. If you choose a B team, playing away to an A team, an auto draw insurance will apply. If you choose a C team playing another C team, or a B team at home and they don't win, you lose and your accumulator resets. If you choose a C team, playing away to a B team, an auto draw insurance will apply. If you choose a C team against an A team, then a 1-goal handicap will be applied and a draw insurance automatically applied irrespective of whether they are playing home or away. This grid shows what will happen to your accumulator: A Teams: Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham B Teams: Aston Villa, Everton, Leeds, Leicester, Newcastle, West Ham, Wolves C Teams: Brentford, Brighton, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Norwich, Southampton, Watford Any questions, ask in this thread. For those who didn't participate last season, look at the threads in the "Last Man Standing" section.
Note that in future all my threads for each week will be "Accumulator League" to avoid confusion with Diamond's league when you click on "New Posts".
Please excuse the silly question Otter, but if I select a team that keeps winning, (some chance), do I need to wait until it loses before I submit another team?
No, you choose a different team each week. I will indicate which teams are available for you to choose from however in week 1 all teams are available. Have a look at last season's round 46 thread and you will see at the top how it went.
This is like when Angry Birds went from launching a bird off a catapult and smashing some blocks to launching a bird, gaining new powers, starting a complex campaign, winning new more powerful birds, having conversations with the birds mid throw to gee them up and needing to buy the latest "Angry Birds And How To Optimise The Deficit Of Angle Versus Power In A Differential Environment" guide. I'm hoping you'll just tell me what teams I can choose and I'll just be able to select one of those!
In most respects it's the same as last season, just choose from a list of available teams. In Week 1 all teams are available to you.
Just a note about rule 5, it is possible to be in a situation where there are no options available; i.e. if for the first 7 weeks you choose a C team and the round 8 an A team and round 9 a B team then no team would be available in round 10. Therefore if such a scenario occurs then the oldest previous C team choice only will be available.
A quick heads up that there will be 3 rounds from Boxing Day to New Years Day. Although no television rearrangements have been made, I anticipate that some 26/12 matches may get moved to 27/12, then the next round will start on 28/12. No doubt some people may not be available so I will open those 3 rounds 26/12, 28/12 & 1/1 from the day after the round of 18/12.
Before choices are allowed to be reused, here is a brief set of stats showing the number of times the current 24 players have used: All but one person has chosen Southampton and Man Utd & Spurs are not very popular!
Due to Covid and the pile up of fixtures, from the Boxing Day round I will do away with the B team choice then excluding all B team choices from the next round. The B team drawing away to an A team and C team drawing away to a B team will remain in place. The excluding of an A team for two rounds will stay in place.
Sorry to ask re round 18 cancelled, round 19 is showing that I had a loss in 18 yet it was cancelled. Also all A teams are blocked off. Can I just get clarification which it is? I had assumed that I still had my choice of Newcastle to pick from and still had a run of 1 win, is that not correct? Thanks
Your R16 choice was an A team, your R17 choice lost, R18 was voided so the inability to choose an A team had been push on another round.
Thanks Otter, believe it or not that's twice I've confused Newcastle & Norwich when looking at the options. My fault, apologies & thanks.
How do we know which teams are still to be picked, (players must use all 20 teams through the season)? I see there are some small triangles on some teams in the list, does this mean they've been chosen are are still to be chosen, (or something else entirely)? Thanks. EDIT: Think I may have answered my own question by looking back, bold means teams not yet used.
Teams not yet chosen are in bold, the little triangles you see are comments in Excel that I use to ensure I don't mess up, they remind me when that team has been previously used by that participant.
With 16 rounds to go, a little reminder that all teams must be used at least once, this past round I was the first to achieve that! For most players there are 3 or fewer teams remaining to be used, so there is plenty of time to use them.
We have a week off again, as we head towards the final 8 rounds this is the leader board in points order:
I think there's some error somewhere. I've only just seen this post, but on post 4 of week 28 you had me down as still having Leicester City remaining which wasn't on this earlier unused list?
This Saudi guy that started paying me to make the predictions is paying off, no longer in the relegation dog fight and I’m pushing for top 10 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There were a couple of mistakes on the original list but it was so long ago I can't remember which ones I'd corrected.
Think my 4 game streak has moved me into the top 10 after a horrendous season so far. Happy with that.
Sorry about the silence and shoddy end to the season, I was called away abroad for a business trip and then returned home to my building project where things are getting chaotic, as we're at the tail end, so I will update the final tables by tomorrow.
The final table was as follows: Thanks for everyone for taking part. The ordered final scores were: Well done to @UEA_Hornet for an outstanding win, also @K9 Hornet for breaking through 100 points, after which there was a considerable gap to 3rd and 4th.
Finally, having done this for two seasons, I don't think I will be doing this particular competition next season, as it takes up a considerable amount of time to set up, add up, screen grab, chase people up etc., that's not to say I won't do something next season or do something in collaboration with another forumite.
Thanks for running it Otter. Was a bit surprising how I streaked away. I fully expected to be caught, and @K9 Hornet proved it was doable all along, but I don't think anyone else ever got beyond 5 on the bounce and in a game of accumulating scores that was a killer. A shame you won't be doing it next season but totally understand the reasons and appreciate you volunteering your time.
Woohoo. 8th. I can live with that after my indifferent start to the season! As said above, thanks for running this one otter. Has been fun!
Thanks Otter you did a great job, lets hope you change your mind about carrying on though, you know you want to
