How were you hoping to fit strangulation into your French oral? What kind of bizarre school was it?

Probably the Grammar where a danger w@nk was doubtless a rite of passage.

Ok. That seems perfectly reasonable. I may have jumped to conclusions that on reflection I did not need to.

I don’t know if you agree, but at that time Rattus was the album everyone was into in Wuffurd land. More so than the Clash or the Damned, popular as they were.

Yep Rattus was THE album. The pashun and energy of punk but with great guitar and keyboard behind it.

Going to see White Lies next Saturday following the release of their excellent sixth album, ‘As I Try Not To Fall Apart’. We’re going to go to Chinatown for lunch, head over to Hammersmith and find somewhere for a few beers and the England game then into the show. Looking forward to it.

Interestingly, The Stranglers had been part of the earlier 'pub-rock' scene alongside such as Dr Feelgood, Kilburn & The High Roads (including Ian Dury), Brinsley Schwarz, Kursaal Flyers, Eddie & The Hot Rods et al. That's probably where their greater 'musicality' came from & why such as the Pistols & Clash were a bit 'sniffy' about them.

Currently reading Lee Brilleuax biography and I can also recommend " no sleep til Canvey" by Will Birch . Brinsley Shwarz ...now that was the original Rock'n' roll swindle and maybe the inspiration for Malcolm McClarens film ?! Also , on YouTube you can find the original Kursaal Flyers documentary circa 1975/6 which is a great fly on the wall look at how bands used to tour.

Little did I know that you knew....

I saw the Feelgoods a few times & they were always pretty good; Stranglers were good but could tend to overplay the 'attitude' when they first broke through. You tended to get the feeling Dave Greenfield did not always enjoy some of that stuff.

Wasn't he on some TV travel show a few months ago? I want to say with Paul Hollywood. If I remember correctly he's a pro wrestler as well? I'm not googling it for love nor money.

Yeah when I was viewing his channel somebody said in the comments he is now a pro wrestler and still wearing the dress, goes by the name Ladybeard I think. Japanese culture is weird but fun it seems. Would love to visit there one day.

I made my rather attractive French teacher giggle during my oral. I think I said our car fell off the bridge on our holiday rather than driving across it. She did like to cross her legs as well.

Anyway. Another band that went under the radar for many or perhaps just some. Fabulous album.

The finest band from Northern Ireland. Snow Patrol. Dark Roman Wine is a wonderful melancholic musing on lovers at the beach. This was only released on their compilation album Up To Now.

The UK's odds seem to be quite low, I dont; seem why.

Overall I think the standard is a little better this year. There's the usual bonkers ones some mopey ballads and a lot of soft rock.

Ukraine's to lose as it's decent and who won't vote for them given the current circumstances.

The UK selectors have been smart this year, Sam Ryder has a massive social media following already - he's one of those singers 'discovered' on TikTok, or Instagram. The thinking being, if enough of those followers are Europe based then he's a shoe in for free points, regardless of the song quality.

Personally I think it's a bit meh, but with decent staging it could be in the top 1/3. But, we always go tame on the staging so that won't happen.

I think it's a given that Ukraine will win, they also won the year Russia invaded Crimea.

I was excited to see Mahmood back representing Italy (previously of Soldi fame), but his duet is disappointing. Norway's will score low with the judges, but very high with the viewers - expect that to shoot up the scoreboard in the second half. And I've not watched Moldova's yet, but Zdob si Zdub I'm pretty sure did a mad song before with a woman dressed as an elf, riding a unicycle whilst playing the trumpet, so I'm expecting good things.
