England boss Steve McClaren says he has not closed the door on any potential replacements for the injured Aaron Lennon and Owen Hargreaves.

With defensive midfielder Hargreaves breaking his leg for Bayern Munich last weekend, and right winger Lennon suffering a knee injury, the new Three Lions boss will have to bring in reinforcements for the upcoming games with Croatia and Macedonia.

Talk has been that former England skipper David Beckham could earn a shock recall after being axed from the international picture immediately after Sven Goran Eriksson's exit, although Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder has also been championing the cause of Magpies skipper Scott Parker.

Whilst remaining coy on who could come into the squad to face Macedonia at Old Trafford on October 7, before flying out to play Croatia in Zagreb four days later, McClaren did state he was staying open-minded as he considered potential replacements.

"Absolutely, I never close the door on anybody, the squad is announced in two weeks and it will be interesting to see who is in it," McClaren told Sky Sports News.

"[It's] welcome to international football with the amount of injuries.

"But you get that at club level and I know after five years that you get that at international level.

"There are very, very good players out there to step into the squad and take the opportunity and that's what I will certainly be looking at.

"I have been for the last two weeks and will be for the next fortnight before I name the squad.

"Getting around the country and seeing if players can take an opportunity to come into the squad and fill the void that's left."

Just a thought, there is a lot of talk at the moment about Ashley Young and some top clubs interested in him, he has made the under 21's, wouldn't it be a good idea to give him a look at the full squad?
Would be nice to see him make that transition, i wouldnt imagine him to get a first team place,, not right away at least, but he certainly would be a good option.

Not quite yet. Think we need a Hargreaves replacement, rather than an attack minded MF.

I think it is likely he will look at a transfer back to the prem at christmas if he is not getting a game, he wants that england 100 bad and knows with no matches played that wont happen.

Benn quoted as saying he will only play for ManUre in the prem though and I don't think that will happen with SAF at the helm.

Wouldn't want him. Unlike Michael Knight, one man can't make a difference and his wages would be a waste of money.

I know, it was a joke, the wages he would want we couldnt afford and it would be a false economy considering we could get 4 or 5 players for that sort of wage budget to his one.
BTW first to 300 weeee... lol

Also I have seen rumoured on the 'fishal site that the King has a clause which makes him top earner. Any galactico we sign would up Marlon's wages also. Not sure how true this is however.

It would be a major suprise to me if a club with the finances we have would give any player such a clause.

There's also a striker if I remember rightly. Think the rest were youngsters and made up ones.

Theres a paul robinson (defender) for millwall.

'Defender Robbo made his senior debut against Cambridge United in the Third Round of the FA Cup in January 2003, coming on after five minutes for an injured Stuart Nethercott. The following week Paul made his first start and League debut against Watford at The Den and scored his first goal for the club in a replay against Cambridge three days later. '
