Excellent draw. Want us to always play at home in every round against weaker opposition. MK Dons should forfeit the game now.
As Richard Johnson once said, when a man is tired by the prospect of a cup tie against local rivals under the lights at vicarage Road he is tired of life
Franchise FC will be “up for it” against a local rival. We won’t and will play a bunch of dis/uninterested reserves and kids. We will lose.
Not a bad tie. Last time we played them at the Vic we stuffed them 4-0 (pretty sure they went down that year). I would hope we see the likes of Okoye, Bayo and Gasper all start, maybe even Quina and Pollock. I still remember going to the quarter finals at Sheff Wed thinking, "you know we might just do this..." then bang - got smashed. Have had some good results too, hammering Southampton was a highlight, and the 3-2 win over Charlton was a very entertaining game.
Samuels other younger brother Boris famously says “ it’s easy to make promises , it’s hard work to keep them “
What year was this? The decision to move the club to MK was made in 2002, at which point AFC were formed, so I don't think not calling them Wimbledon at that stage would upset anyone!
Correct - I thought they had already become MK back then. Done a bit of digging and found a snippet from the match report. Cook and Ardley were pretty decent I remember. Watford 4-0 Wimbledon Watford pulled further away from the drop zone while Wimbledon were sent closer to the relegation trapdoor. Lee Cook started and finished a flowing Watford move for the opener which was aided by some poor Dons defending. Watford's Lenny Pidgeley pulled off a fingertip save from Ben Chorley before Cook was fouled by Jermaine Darlington and Neil Cox scored from the spot. Jack Smith's shot put Watford's 3-0 up and ex-Don Neal Ardley sealed the win when he converted Paul Devlin's cross. Wimbledon could not be criticised for a lack of effort but they failed to find the quality to mount any real threat on the home goal. They went behind when Cook broke forward and fed Scott Fitzgerald who in turn played a delightful through-ball to Devlin. Devlin then laid the ball off to the advancing Cook and he made no mistake in slotting home beyond goalkeeper Steve Banks. Cook was a constant thorn in Wimbledon's side and he earned the penalty for the Hornets' second before his pass found Jack Smith inside the box and the defender scored with a shot low down the centre of goal. To their credit Murdoch's men continued to battle and Malvin Kamara struck the woodwork with a ferocious 35-yard strike. But Ardley converted a Devlin cross with 76 minutes gone to help pull Watford further away from the relegation zone. Watford: Pidgeley, Cox, Dyche, Ifil, Smith, Ardley, Hyde, Mahon, Fitzgerald, Cook, Devlin. Subs: Chamberlain, Vernazza, Dyer, Hand, Doyley. Wimbledon: Banks, Darlington, Gier, Gordon, Hawkins, Barton, Campbell-Ryce, Chorley, Harding, Gray, Lewington. Subs: Jarrett, Mackie, Herzig, Kamara, Worgan. Referee: R Olivier (W Midlands).
Fair dos, but I don’t count friendlies as real football. Of course we’ve never played AFC Wimbledon competitively either.
Spot on I always love his bullish self-delusion... “There were some moments of real quality in terms of our play and our set up. Carlos scored a wonderful goal, the second goal is a wonderful goal and you would have seen one of the best counter-attacking goals you’ve ever seen if Elliot Thorpe squared it, so there was lots of good play, it’s just we lost the game." After our record-breaking season in terms of home defeats and nutmegs, we get to lock Horns (ho ho) with Bedfordshire's Gollum again to witness his regular post-defeat denial masterclass again this year. The Supremes knew the truth; "winter 's passed, spring and fall... Nathan Jones you've been gone too long"

Looks a little too rigid a formation to me. Talented player but getting on a bit and not sure he can play all positions at the same time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arouna_Koné
Bought my tickets. I’m fully expecting the tempo to be worse than a pre-season friendly, but I like seeing players that might not get another look in until the FA cup 3rd round. Anything less than 11 changes and I’ll be gutted: Okoye; Gaspar, Pollock, WTE; Ngakia, Gosling, Kayembe, Hungbo; Mebude; Davis, Forde
Ahh, remember the days when even our second string was good enough to absolutely boss Spurs in the league cup.
Gutted this isn’t reversed given I’m not far from their ground these days with limited chances to go to games currently. That being said, give players a chance to get up to speed and whatever happens happens. Back Rob Edwards.
That would be 10 changes! Last season we didn't really use the kids too much in the a League Cup (unless you include Ngakia in that?), so I'm keen for us to see the likes of Pollock, Shaq Forde and Hungbo (albeit the latter is actually older than a few of the players we might consider regulars!). Really keen to seen Davis too, I presume he'll get a runout, hopefully in preparation for starting next weekend!
