We’ve got Hause, Kortney Hause at Watfoooorrd We don’t need luck, he’s as hard as fook at Watfoooord With his head and his feet he won’t get beat at Watfooord He’s all we need to get to the Premier League at Watford….lalalala Repeat.
At any other club there would be a couple of new signings playing on Saturday. At Watford you have to wait between a fortnight and a month to see them.
Of course. We don't ever sign players who are actually immediately available to, you know, play football.
We’re not unusual - many teams take time to bed in new players. Pretty sure Liverpool and Man City are among them.
The difference of course, is that the teams you mention already have world class options available. We have Cathcart and Kabasele.
In what universe would a Championship side ever have world class options? We are a Championship side and those two were components of the joint best Championship defence on record. So they should be able to do a job (3 goals conceded in 5 games so far) while waiting for replacements to bed in.
Apart from what Luke has already said, it’s also the case that this, and us generally, is/are not cases of ‘bedding in’, are they? It’s yet another player (albeit one who, at least, represents a decent pickup this time round) who we need immediately but have signed whilst unready to play. It’s not like our super intricate system is proving too much for him, realistically, is it - the word before he signed was that he wouldn’t be ready straight out of the gate thanks to fitness issues this summer, and it appears to be in evidence here.
You’re the one that compared us to Man City and Liverpool. I was simply pointing out that they have a much wider scope to slowly integrate players, given their existing options are already at a far higher standard. I don’t think it’s a reasonable comparison, given the vastly different circumstances under which we operate, but if you’re happy to compare us to those clubs, that’s on you. You clearly believe that Kabasele and Cathcart are good options. I would disagree, based on both their defensive limitations, and their lack of ability on the ball, an aspect of their game that is making it harder for RE to implement his wider tactical strategy.
I would much rather Hause starts and was immediately available but he’s going to be an asset across the season, and will probably be up to speed in a week or so, and I don’t see why we should put that in jeopardy to have him tomorrow v QPR. Given the paucity of LCB options (it was Hause or paying a fee for Clarke or a big fee for Greaves), it’s more difficult to find a player who is going to be immediately up to speed, especially if fishing in the PL reject bucket bin (meaning even fit players will be lacking match sharpness). At least we have him in the building, are supervising his recovery and bringing him up to speed tactically rather than still in the market or wondering if we will bring someone in or not. Just don’t get the fuss personally. City/Liverpool might not be the most helpful examples, but players often sign and are then brought up to speed, particularly players with inadequate pre-seasons. I wish we’d get players at the start of pre-season and prepare them ourselves but when signing loanees, parent clubs don’t like to operate this way. Besides, we knew when Hause arrived that he had some injury recovery issues and speaking personally I’ve been pleasantly surprised to see him in full training and closer to featuring than I had assumed based on his knee surgery.
I must admit you’d hope loan players would be ready to be involved. Maybe just be for this game and Tuesday .. Hopefully not for longer .
Textbook Jon G. Compares us to Liverpool and then gets snooty when someone responds using the context of the very comparison he has made.
But we’ve signed some who are ready to play - HC, Asprilla, Gaspar, Bayo, Manaj (although in the case of the latter two, “play” is a subjective term). So for Hause and Davis, both of whom Edwards has allegedly identified as targets, do we not buy them because they have fitness issues that will keep them out of a couple of games? It happens, but we aren’t the only ones it happens to. Let’s judge the purchases on the season, not their first 10 days.
I was saying that other clubs hold off introducing players immediately. I would have mentioned a lower league team that did it, but don’t know enough about them to identify one. Or possibly they all chuck in every new signing as soon as they are bought. No idea. I believe K and C are adequate holding options for the start of the season while we sort out our squad and best first eleven. Like most other teams.
Snooty? Or simply presenting an alternative view? I don’t feel I’m being snooty. I’m certainly not trying to be. I’m just trying to present my view of the situation, albeit through analogies which some find not entirely perfect.
I'm only poking fun hence the smiley. I just find your posting style amusing: "In what universe" "It's simply good husbandry" "Don't you use debt when you run YOUR business?" Don't worry I am sure I post lots of phrases that other people would poke fun at
But we're not judging the purchases in their entirety on their first 10 days, or any other truncated period - we're commenting on a fairly clear trend the Pozzos indulge when it comes to purchasing, and that seems needless and counter-productive.
And I’m questioning whether it is a trend, or just a couple of players who are less than fit due to circumstances beyond our control.
Well there are three, all in extremely key positions we really needed upgrades/bodies in, in just the past 12 months, so just ask questions away, but it seems fairly undeniable to at least some extent.
Sierralta out. Zero ability on the ball. RE wants a ball playing CB to step into midfield to push the side forward when in possession. Of course our wonderful hierarchy forgot this. Hause I don't think is all that better on the ball but he cannot be any worse.
What?! Sierralta is excellent at defending. Ball playing CBs are a stupid idea that only work for £50m.
