If Sarr gets back in form he's better than all of Townsend, Gray, Iwobi and Gordon. Only Townsend is really a specialist for them on the right anyway and he'll be 31 at the start of next season.
I said could be interested purely on the basis that they may believe they could put a bid of around £15m. Not that it was likely. Despite how garbage he has been since AFCON prior to the he was more impactful that the likes of ASM and Raphina over his total amound of PL appearances. Klopp may believe he can turn him around and the technical director will want to minimise the investment risk. They were interested in the past so may believe it's worth the gamble
Sarr is absolute gash and it's partly down to us. He's 25 next season so hardly a kid, he's spent 3 important years of his career at this cesspit and hasn't improved one bit. In fact he's gone backwards, whether proper coaching can get him on track remains to be seen. Good luck to him but I'm bored of him now so the sooner he leaves the better.
He really has gone backwards. Watching this video, there are lot of the same traits - poor decision making and technique - but he used to take people on a lot and I presume we thought he was a rough diamond. We've sucked the joy out of his game so much that he doesn't even dribble anymore. Having said that, astonished that we paid that much money for someone with so little end product. The best thing that happens in most of these clips is that he gets a free kick, rest of the time they cut it just as he's obviously about to overrun the ball. For £30m+ you should be getting a much, much better player
Yes the most exciting thing when we signed him was his incredible pace. I honestly don't know what has happened to that part of his game. Maybe it's being in a terrible team, maybe it's instructions from coaches, maybe he just can't be arsed?
Iwobi is the most improved player in that Everton team since Lampard took over, I can't see him sitting on the bench for them next season even if they are busy in the transfer window. Townsend is the most talented player on there wings but is not getting game time because of the same reason why we have being slating Sarr, loss of form and lack of efforts. When they are both in form, Townsend is definitely the better player. Can't see Sarr starting over Gordon. Sent from my AUM-L29 using Tapatalk
Sarr's 'goals per game' and 'goals + assists per game' stats in his 2 seasons in the Prem with us are both better than any of Townsend's season stats across the entirety of his PL career. Even an "improved" Iwobi has only managed 1 goal and 1 assist in 1,323 minutes of PL football under Lampard. He's still crap,
Sarr has missed a Deeney type leader in the dressing room that could support him. Some players need an arm around the shoulder, which was one of the reasons Mane asked Deeney to “look after my brother”.
Yes, I’m sure he missed Deeney throwing his arms up in the air and berating him every time a cross didn’t land on his right foot. We also saw the best of Sarr in the championship as soon as Deeney was out of the side, so really that’s just utter nonsense. Sarr is 25 next season, he’s not an 18 year old kid, he needs to take some responsibility for his own performances.
Townsend is awful, he has no idea what to do in the final third so often just shoots from 30 yards whenever he receives the ball. His shot maps are hilarious.
I think the key point with Townsend is that he was free. Everton obviously had huge issues with FFP last season and they could only spend money once they shifted Digne, so had no choice but to pick up players like Townsend for nothing. I would say Sarr is better than Townsend but then you’d expect a player who cost €35m to better than one who is 31 and cost nothing, pretty pointless discussion really. I don’t see how Sarr being better than a player who cost Everton nothing, will help us make Everton pay £25m+ for him. They didn’t sign Townsend because they thought he was better than Sarr, they signed him because he cost zero and they couldn’t spend any money.
Absolutely. He's a dreadful player who scores a 30 yard screamer every season to keep his name in the headlines and memory of MoTD viewers. Zero creativity. Sarr is no world beater but anyone who suggests "...Townsend is definitely the better player" loses all credibility.
(goal is green, post is yellow, saved is blue, blocked is purple and red is off target) He's taken 245 shots from open play resulting in 18 goals. A staggering 80% of those (198 shots) have come from outside the penalty area, resulting in just 9 goals. Ruben Neves is much the same "long shot expert" who's scored 7 goals from 222 shots from outside the penalty area, and even most of the goals he's scored from outside the area are still pretty close to the D.
Lewis McGugan - what a strange player. Seems to have given up on his career at the age of 27 apart from a short unsuccessful spell at Northampton a few years ago. I wonder how he is remembered at Forest?
We will him this summer for an undisclosed amount and then we can spend the next two years arguing about how much was the actual figure
Wasn't aware of his injury though but I noticed Lampard have been starting Gordon and Iwobi over him at a point. And sometimes he doesn't even get introduced in second second half at all. Sent from my AUM-L29 using Tapatalk
Fine, but I will easily pick Iwobi over Sarr. I won't even think twice about it! If all our players show the same fight and effort Iwobi showed on the field in there relegation fight, we certainly would have survived easily. Sent from my AUM-L29 using Tapatalk
Before his injury you mean ? He’s been out since March . Gordon has really broken through this season - a rare bright spot for Everton .
I would take 25 million and a decent sell on percentage. His time at the Vic is up. Thank you Ismaila
Signing crap like Iwobi is why Everton are in trouble, a mixture of buying players no longer wanted by better teams for top dollar, and too many players for top dollar from crap teams like us and Burnley. The perfect storm of consistently spending over the odds on mediocrity, and ending up with a team full of players with absolutely no upside to their potential and all on the way down at the same time career wise. It seems they’ve learned nothing with Alli and VDB being textbook examples of just such players. It stands to reason if you’re buying players that teams like arsenal spurs and Utd no longer want who are teams who have had their own struggles, you’re going to perform at a level someway below Arsenal, Spurs and Utd, not above them. Townsend is a different matter as he was free and a symptom of spending money on crap like Iwobi and falling foul of FFP, so having no choice but to spend nothing on mediocrity instead.
Iwobi tore the right side of our defence ragged for Arsenal one game. Then Wenger decided to move him inside and was useless.
Agreed, though any "winger" who didn't in the last 2 relegation seasons should have immediately retired.
It was truly bonkers that Everton paid what they did for him, or even signed him at all. It was never justified based on what he did at Arsenal. He was and still is a headless chicken.
