They'll do it if they think it's right and there's the possibility to flip for big money later on down the line. They bought Keita for £26m, Werner, Olmo + Andre Silva for £20m each, were even willing to pay Palace £18m for Sorloth!
Elephant in the room here, will his injury **** him up for the rest of his career? Will that play in the mind of potential suitors? We had to send Geri to Udinese, and while he's done quite well there, it is a less intense league...
Geri has done more than quite well at Udinese. Been one of the best players in the League and it’s been by far the best season of his career. A lot of goals and assists but his underlying metrics are phenomenal. I suspect he will join Napoli or Milan in the summer for £30m+. Besides, a semi-fit Sarr played an important role in Senegal’s AFCON win.
Look forward to that money coming our way, seeing as it was Watford who bought him then gave him up to Udinese.
Fair, I didn't realise he had scored that many! If he does make the move, I wonder how much of that £30m will be funneled to us... As for Sarr, he did alright at the AFCON, but against some pretty weak sides by Euro/South American standards
This feels a little bombastic to me. Phenomenal?! 13 goals and 5 assists is good and above average for sure - but it’s hardly superhuman. His metrics point to a good player in form. At 28 and with a sketchy history of form and injury, I very much doubt he would go for more than £20m now.
As I said - his advanced metrics are phenomenal. Even better than his goal return in an otherwise ok side. Look at the below link regarded xT (expected threat - it’s a little bit complex for me but if you look at the players involved you see it’s a special list). https://twitter.com/marcusbr22/status/1528460514485063682?s=21&t=SoaeR5P45m-qdyKnvA6YPA He had the most key passes of any player in Serie A. Top 3 for most progressive carries. Maybe £30m is too high given his age but I suspect it’ll be a fair chunk, he’s been so superb.
Each to their own. I love the guy - but the eye test, metrics aside, tells me phenomenal and ‘so superb’ are further than I’d go. But many people think Foster was good this season and I used metrics (and the eye test) to thoroughly disagree…so as I said, each to their own.
Foster was awful - yes. I can understand why what you’ve seen of Geri leads you to conclude that he had a very good season rather than a phenomenal season though I respectfully disagree. How anyone voted for Foster as POTS I won’t know. Was awful most games as is backed up by the xG goalkeeping data. Seemed to forget how to dive for the ball many times.
And then you have players like Ken Sema, whose metrics thankfully match the eye test exactly, so there is no disagreement.
Bit off topic but speaking of Sema, at least we don't have to sign Tufat now. Well, we knew that after the Palarse game but it's worth mentioning again as we have enough duds to get rid of over the summer as it is.
How much have we all seen of Geri and Udinese this season? (Not a snipe as I have barely seen them at all!)
In theory he's versatile and he doesn't kick up a fuss, so he'll be staying as our backup wing-back/midfielder
That's rubbish. All of those teams have at least 2 wingers better than Sarr. Just count Everton out of it, Sarr won't get a place there bench ahead of Gray and Townsend and am sure Lampard will want to sign players that will be an improvement on the starters. Sent from my AUM-L29 using Tapatalk
I reckon we'll try and offload Sarr for £36m plus add ons, but Eddie howe is apparently cooling and I bet Liverpool won't go over say £28m - what's the chances we do another "Geri" and send him to udinese for a season to ramp up his value.? I guess thats quite risky with his current contract..?
Liverpool won’t buy him. They have enough attackers as it is - Mane, Salah, Diaz, Firmino, Carvalho, Elliott. If it got to the point of sending him on loan, I bet there would be bigger and better than Udinese willing to take that deal on. And it would probably be better for us as a club. Although unlikely, I’d like us to play hardball if it came to it - if no one is willing to buy him outright, then tell him he’s staying unless he signs a one-year extension in order to go out on loan. We have to protect our investment in that case and I don’t think sending him to Udinese on his current deal does that at all. I also think it’s very, very, very unlikely we will be getting £36m+ Add ons. That’s a huge amount.
I still think Liverpool could be interested, but they will lowball as always Salah (29), Mane (30), Firmino (30) are all approaching that point where they will be looking to replace them. You could argue Diaz, Carvalho and Elliott are the strategy but I wouldn't be surprised if Elliott is loaned out to a mid table club to get 30+ games under his belt next season after his injury, and Carvalho is untested at top level. Minamino looks like he's being shipped out, and that will be at a profit
Liverpool paid £41m for Jota, who is just a year older than Sarr. If you think they’d pay £36m for a player who has about a fith of his ability with two years left on his deal you’re an absolute mentalist.
When they signed Mane 6 years ago at 24/25, he was one of the hottest players outside the top 6. He's taken a leap since then, but Sarr is nowhere near at the same age. Salah at 24 years old had just scored like 25/30 goals or something silly for Roma then joined Liverpool, again taken a leap but Sarr is nowhere near being that good.
If we can get £25m for Sarr I’d take it. It’s a great shame as prior to his form falling off a cliff, we would easily have got all our money back. But it may be better in the short-term that he stays giving him the chance to get his form back, and his value up. He needs games to get his confidence back, and not sure he will get that in the PL until he is performing every week.
Who in particular? Nobody knows for a fact any clubs is willing to take a gamble on him let alone plenty.
Palace are very shrewd now, they’ve picked up young English talent for much less than Sarr would cost and are better players. Everton are hamstrung by FFP.
I wasn't really putting my own valuation on Sarr there, more an assumption of GP's valuation based on what was paid for him. This season has knocked his valuation badly agreed....
I don't see room for him at Palace. I think Everton, Newcastle and Leicester seem the most obvious PL moves where he'd fit. Outside chance Wolves, West Ham and Leeds depending on outgoings, but less likely.
If Leeds sell Raphinha for £50m odd then we should force Sarr there for £25m. Make a whole slideshow about how great James & Sarr on opposite wings would be and how terrified defences would be and sell the **** out of the idea.
Klopp will certainly be looking for players better than Sarr who will come into the team and challenge for a starting spot should in case he lose any of Salah or Mane in the transfer window. I really can't see him coming for Sarr when there are better players like Dennis, Raphinha, H Barnes, Bowen, Olise, Nkunku showing with more consistency than Sarr in average teams that they can cut in a more bigger team with a better manager. Everton and Palace? Are you serious? He won't get on there bench! Sent from my AUM-L29 using Tapatalk
It makes some sense, but I wonder that Leeds would have to start abandoning their high-intensity, loads of running style for it.
