Priti Patel set to announce herself as a candidate for Tory leadership. Presumably she’s going to have to explain how as Home Secretary she allowed immigration to soar, what with this being all the Right seem to think about day and night.
Something something the blob. Something something snivel service. Something something betrayed. See, it's easy!
They might be out of Government but the Tories will probably be braced for more criticism when the first section of the COVID report comes out . https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c4ng7j486pdt
I can't see that being the reason personally. I think people had already priced in the fact the government stuffed up the pandemic response and suspect there's a big chunk of the electorate who would rather forget about the Covid period altogether.
I think the main problem was they were telling people what to do then breaking the rules themselves. And I have to say feel some in the Government probably thought it was a fuss over nothing.
Nurse! Nadine’s got loose again. Admittedly, in amongst the drama and grandiosity there is a point this time.
Nice to see that the Tory infighting continues unabated post the general election. Lots of discussions about "what went wrong" going on. Were they not "Conservative" enough? Do they need to recapture the centre ground? I would suggest the constant bickering in public, like a bunch of loons, doesn't help.
I would happily see them paid £27m, with two conditions. Firstly, they recover at least 100 times their pay and secondly, a decent number of custodial sentences result from their investigations......
How are the Tories adjusting to life in opposition? Are they using their time well or going to carry on with the same daft Twitter/X driven politics? https://x.com/esthermcvey1/status/1815766720159646032?s=46&t=oqOMSJXE_g7J5C7kNPG9LA
Good to hear that Robert Jenrick - the only man alive who can compete with Grant Shapps for the title of Britain's most irritating a-hole - is thinking of applying for Rishi's job
He's one of a handful of Tory former bigwigs sacked by the public who doesn't seem to have quite come to terms with it yet. When Starmer and Shapps' successor Healey were meeting the Ukrainian president last week there's Shapps on X writing a statement welcoming him to the UK etc. Bizarre thing to do when you're not even in Parliament anymore, let alone not in the shadow or even the real cabinet!
The Shapps home. A fretful Grant has been in his office all afternoon. Mrs Shapps: Come on now Grant love. No sense waiting for the phone. If President Zelensky wants to call you, I’m sure he’ll get hold of you. Come and have your tea now. I’ve made your favourite and we can watch ‘Escape to the Country.’
Incredibly I think you might be right. Jenrick actually makes Shapps seem alright really. Christ! Ha ha ha ha ha! Come back Grant, all is forgiven
For me "Honest Bob" Jenrick was the most distasteful of all of the Tory politicians we have had to endure in recent years (and he has some competition!)
Silence. Tory MPs and Tory figures, normally with so much to say about everything. Barely a word on the crisis they helped create over so many years.
They're ****ed. Speak the truth about these right wing (actually not really right wing, just useless lumps who have finally found a place in the spotlight, too thick to have a coherent political position) and they bleed more voters to Reform, offer mitigation and bleed disgusted traditional Tories who can see this scum for what it is to the LDs and Labour.
I think that’s partially true but it’s also because they stoked this fire without giving a second thought to the consequences. Because it was all good lefty baiting shyte, even though it was their record. Now the wetter ones have nothing they can say and the hawkish ones are hoping this will end in a fresh General Election.

Leadership hopeful Robert Jenrick gets his dog whistle out on Sky News suggesting that anyone saying ‘Allahu Akbar’ (God is great) should be arrested. https://news.sky.com/story/textbook...ting-allahu-akbar-should-face-arrest-13192567
Still a daft thing to say. What next ban ‘no one likes us, but we don’t care,’ ‘Yorkshire,’ or ‘’ere we go, ‘ere we go, ‘ere we go?’
Calm down. It's a public order offence to chant it in the streets in a provocative manner. I agree though, as an MP he should be mindful of what he's saying, especially in these heightened times!
To my knowledge, it's a section 5 offence. 'likely to cause harassment, harm and or distress'. Pretty grey area really. Different things/chants could cause certain people distress. It's fairly subjective I would say. I would say a horde of marauding Muslim's running down the streets with swords and machete's chanting 'allauh Akhbar' would be pretty distressing to most sane people! As would a horde of marauding far-right thugs chanting provocative racial songs/remarks.
