How Do We Survive?

They usually have a wobble during the season and let's hope it's now.
We need to buy in quality end of story. Plus will they even dig deep in their pockets if we do get some decent results against the current bottom three? We cannot afford to standstill in the market.
Rose, Kiko, Cathcart, Kabs, Kucka, Sema, Tufan, WTE, Masina, Bachmann, Gosling all need to be vastly upgraded. It won't happen this window obviously but I desperately want a big chunk of that sorted.

We need to put a good run together. Can we do it conceding 2-3 goals a game? Impossible....Based on the fact we've lost most of our games this season and are pi$$ easy to score against, we are currently nailed on for relegation. We haven't got a single point since Sarr and Foster got injured. If they'd stayed fit for the whole season, I think we could've stayed up. The defence is much worse without Foster's experience and teams aren't at all scared of us without Sarr.

I hope I'm wrong but I dont see how we can get the points we need in the next 3 games with Bachmann in goal. So I think we're going down. It was the pre season belief that Bachmann, Sierralta and Rose were good enough for the prem that hamstrung our recruitment. It'll be interesting to see if the new signings are good enough. They're gonna have to be pretty fooking good and Foster and Sarr are gonna have to come back in top form for us to have any chance at all.

I think it's clear that when Scott said he'd learned from his mistakes he was talking about finances not squad quality. If we go down we'll be in much better shape than 2 years ago but it's such a wasted opportunity and we can't assume we're gonna bounce back. Having said that, I do like the look of our championship team for next season.

The reason I was freaking out so
much last season about Deeney's position at the club was cos I knew how much damage failing to get promoted would do to the club and I knew we couldnt get promoted with him in the side. There was a huge fear of not getting promoted last season. I just dont think any of us really fear relegation this season and quite frankly that's how the team is playing. A lack of fight, and a complete absence of a backs to the wall mentality.

Don’t forget Munoz either. There was a misguided hope he’d be up to it and he clearly wasn’t. That was a complete waste of whole pre-season with a manager equipped to manage a team in the PL.

The problem is we need to be able to offer managers who join us in the champo the incentive of managing in the PL if they get us promoted. If Munoz had been sacked after getting us promoted it would be harder to attract managers when we're in the champo. That mightve been a factor in Pozzbury's thinking. They seem to have approached this season with relegation in mind.

Saw this on reddit and made me chuckle. It's certainly right regarding Norwich and we are following suite pretty closely as well. Love the cut string on Muff.

A bit harsh calling Watford a yo yo club, seeing as we’ve only been relegated once in the past 14 seasons.

Norwich yes, but the other two clubs should really be Fulham and West Brom.

We did it with Slav and it didn’t impact our ability to bring Ivic in. I dare say if Ivic had worked out he would’ve been given the chance though as he at least had some sort of CV and defined style of play.

Munoz was always grossly under qualified and destined to fail. You can’t jeopardise your PL status because you’re worrying about what manager you can attract next year, a league lower, if you get relegated.

Well it’s not that you can’t, you’d just be absolutely r3tarded if you did approach a PL season with that as part of your thought process.

Rather harsh to criticise the club for believing Sierralta was good enough for the PL, since the vast majority on here (maybe even 100%) also believed he was. Even now I don’t think it’s conclusive either way, given that injury has kept him out much of the time.

Mmm, it really should be 'believe Sierralta could be a bedrock of our defence and lead it at Premier League level whilst also helping compensate/firefight for how dogshyt all his prospective partners are, as a young player who's never even experienced this level of competition before and played only double figure senior appearances in his career'.

There is a little thing called context, we’ve got two games in hand over them and they’ve said they aren’t buying anyone in the window. Plus obviously 3 teams have to go down, so even if Norwich win tonight would you be backing them to stay up?

  13. The undeniable truth

The undeniable truth First Team Captain

I won’t back them to stay up if they win and move above us but I wouldn’t back us to stay up either.but they’ve certainly not “gone” if they’re above us. 2 games in hand but we’ve lost our last 6.
    EDIT Norwich now losing !

  14. a19tgg

That’s as maybe, but it’s hardly an outlandish statement to say Norwich are gone even if they did move above us tonight. We would still have two games in hand over them and the opportunity to buy more players which they’ve said they won’t, we’ll still probably go down as well, but I’d hazard a guess the bookies would still be giving shorter odds for Norwich even with a win tonight.

They are gone in the same way that we were “safe” after beating Norwich and Newcastle to move 6 points (?) above the relegation zone 2 seasons ago. They’d have been strong favourites for relegation but it would have been crazy to say they were gone had they won this evening and moved above us in the table was my point.

No of course not ?!! Are you translating they are “gone” to mean they will very probably go down but could stay up ?? “Gone” to me means 100% certain to end relegated which they wouldn’t have been if they weren’t even in the bottom 3.

    These are the current odds:
    • Norwich City @ 1/14
    • Watford @ 4/7
    • Burnley @ 4/7
    • Newcastle @ 4/6
1/14 to go down, that’s bookie speak for ‘gone’, so take it up with them.

  19. The undeniable truth

The undeniable truth First Team Captain

No it’s not. It’s 1/14, very highly likely. “Gone” would be if they’d paid out. If they’d won and moved above us those odds would have improved. I can tell by your other posts that you’re not that stupid. Stop trying to pick an argument just for the sake of it.

He was Udinese's 5th choice CB. It was misguided to assume he could make the step up to the PL. But yes you're right, most fans thought he was a PL quality centre back.

Of course it was impossible for Leicester to win the league at 5,000-1…

That’s the downside of this model. Nobody really had any attachment or reason to go that extra mile.

Dennis knows he’s done enough for a move, Sarr won’t stay another year he’s done us a favour once, King’s kicked up a fuss before and got his move.

Cathcart would be on like his 4th relegation, Foster old, Femenia to Spain, Masina so **** he don’t care. It doesn’t really affect anyone. Sadly,

I think we need 7+ points from the next 3. We're so mentally weak that if we lose to Newcastle or Burnley it would finish us off.

Hopefully they will be be even closer to being “gone” if we beat them next week. If we don’t, and have a bad week it’s still quite possible that “gone” Norwich will finish above us.

You are right about the points haul and that we do not want to lose any of the three games, however I don't agree that we are necessarily finished if we do lose any of those matches, because I believe it could just be a case of them coming too soon for us to get the benefit of our new recruits etc.

It is my belief that if our new recruits turn out to be the players we hope them to be also if our injury list is vastly reduced and STAYS that way and furthermore if our AFCON players return fighting fit and raring to go, then I still think that we could survive any of those three possible defeats!!!

I know there are a fair few IF's that need to come into line, but IF they do we could still do this.

Sounds like an accumulator bet and they rarely come off! 2 most critical games in my view are Burnley and Norwich (I expect Newcastle to survive). Absolute minimum is a draw and win, respectively, against them. If we can't do that, then doesn't bode well for what I expect will be the Championship next season! We'll have a better idea of how the land lies after Norwich. If we can get our act together, I think Leeds can be caught and our home match against them on 9 April could be massive.

…But still go down as was well because they’re gone, you seem unable to separate what happens to Norwich and us, nobody is saying that Norwich going down means we won’t. Norwich are gone regardless of what happens to us.

Completely different scenario, what were Leicester’s odds of winning that title after 20 games of their title winning season? They would’ve had a significantly greater chance than the 3% chance Norwich have of staying up now of winning the title.

No, we just have different definitions of "gone" that's all. For me "gone" means "nailed-on certain", you take it to mean "highly likely". My original point, way way way back was that if they won the match they were playing at the time, they would move out of the relegation zone so I didn't believe they were "gone" (my interpretation), and indeed if they were, we must be close to gone ! Actually i was incorrect as they would still be in the bottom 3 on GD but the point remains....I think we're only arguing over a different interpretation of that word. Shall we move on ?
