Hateful Rhetoric: What Can Be Done?

I'm more worried about the six figure sums that people might be receiving and which Russian agency a forensic accountant might trace the origins of those funds to. But maybe that's just a leftwing conspiracy theory.

Does hateful rhetoric apply to Labor Councillor's as well, like Ricky Jones? Just asking.....

You mean you believe he will be arrested and receive a custodial sentence?

I’m not one of the in-house lawyers but I would imagine there are grounds for a possible offence to be charged.

    ‘possible offence?’

You have all blamed Nigel Farage, Tommy Robinson, Andrew Tate and whoever else you don’t like or agree with stoking up hatred and inciting violence.

I don’t see or hear the same condemnation for this Labor politician.

In fact I haven’t heard any of the above people say that people should go out and kill people…..only Ricky Jones. Deplorable ‘human’.

I don’t see what the problem is here. On the basis of that clip, I condemn him for his threatening and hateful language. I trust he will be dealt with.

On the contrary, I’ve heard little but denial from you about the thousands of remarks issued by the individuals above with the intention of stirring racial dischord. You seem unable to comprehend the cumulative effect of this politics but this is where some of their fans have got to, trying to burn down hotels with human beings inside them.

I can't believe you're defending him! He said he wanted to cut their throats! And here you are making excuse after excuse. Two tier posting from Moose.

    But is your 'trust' misplaced?

Honest question, not trying to be tricky.....

Do you believe he should be arrested, charged with inciting violence and receive a custodial sentence?

I’ve said before there looks like there is the basis for a public order charge. The punishment he should receive, after due process, should be based on similar case law and sentencing guidelines.

It makes me angry when people say such stupid things and he’ll have to deal with the consequences.

I asked you for your opinion. Nice politicians answer. Maybe you could take his job?

The most likely offence would be provocation of violence under s 4 POA which carries a maximum sentence of 6 months.

How is 'gesticulating' and 'being in the face of police officers shouting at them', 'violent disorder?'

Do you agree he should've been charged with violent disorder? Is Cleveland Police's description of what happened 'violent'?

TBH, probably. The word is not restricted to physical acts.

Excellent. Hopefully he can go before a judge before the weekend and get sentenced.

Just hope we don't let out murderers to make room for him (which has already happened).

Rich, what's the most severe punishment for 'encouraging murder?' Pretty heavy punishment surely?

Does that sit right with you that someone that shouts at a copper gets more than 2 years in jail?

Up to life in prison. I’ll be a bit surprised if he ends up charged with that but the CPS are in a punchy mood so will wait and see.

It’s not just that he ‘shouted’ is it? It’s the persistence of it within the context it happened. Neither you nor myself would continue shouting at coppers in that way during any sort of fracas and expect to be ‘let off’. The reason for the harshness of the sentence is obviously the context of the offence.
He wasn’t just a lad getting a bit lairy.

No ok, sure, I get that.

Two years inside though?? Come on.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these sentences come down on appeal. 26 months for that seems high, especially as some of those sent down with him got similar sentences (give or take a few months) and they were reportedly seen throwing missiles. The bit we don’t know with this Mallen guy is his previous convictions, which would be very influential. Certainly the police have been saying publicly today that a lot of those they’re mopping up so far have previous for violence, public order offences etc.

Yes, fair point on previous misdemeanours.

And for kicking a police officer.

If you are trying to make a case that white people get more harshly treated, this isn’t it.

Once again, it demonstrates the problem of just taking things at face value. You wouldn’t do that for a transfer rumour, so why for this?

Fair comment about the length of the sentence considering the 20 months given to one of the blokes in Liverpool.

I beg your pardon? Please point out where I have made that point about 'white people'? What on earth are you insinuating?!

I am merely posting the tweet from Cleveland Police (not a far-right loony, as you normally like to jump all over that) which doesn't state anywhere about 'kicking a police officer?'. Surely if that was the case they'd have said assaulted a police officer rather than gesticulating and shouting!?!?!??!
