£2m seems like a lot. He's not done much of note. Surely if we have a bit of money we should be using it to bolster the squad? If he's seen as worth keeping then revisit it in the summer, maybe even knock that price down.
Apparently signing him on a permanent deal frees up an additional loan spot which means we can bring in TWO players on loan now, so hopefully that is the plan.
We can bring in as many players as we want on loan - it’s just the amount we are allowed in a matchday squad that is limited.
Odd to do the deal now. Used up our budget and now have the liability if he gets an injury. Didn’t need to do the deal until the summer as it was all setup and tied into the loan deal. But then when has common sense and logic ever been applied at Watford.
How can anyone doubt the clubs ambition, when we’ve just spent nearly 10% of the entire Premier League’s January window spend on a player we already had.
I guess the feeling (might be) that after his injury, the coach thinks his confidence is growing and a Chakvetadze in full flight is a top player? (Not my opinion, just saying what they may think!) And if he has a storming second half of the season, won’t matter what fee we have lined up…he can’t just say he doesn’t want to sign because a bigger club are now keen?
I get what you’re saying, but I don’t think he’s been that good that a bigger club would come in for him. From what was reported we had him on loan with an option on him. So that’s tied-in to the loan deal. Just like it was when we had Marlon King from Forest all those years ago. He ripped it up for us and they couldn’t get out if it. We got ourselves a bargain.
Pleased with that, he’s started to become an important part of the squad. Only him & Dennis as signings does seem a little light though, considering Louza, Healey and Hurtado have all gone albeit only Healey as a permanent (although it’ll be a big surprise if we ever see Louza in a Watford shirt again)
Yeah exactly, we've not added any depth to an already flimsy looking squad (especially midfield). On a positive note, he is 24 and we've got him for the next 3.5 seasons. Let's hope he doesn't get many injuries in that time.
Given the impact all 3 had in the first half of the season I doubt we will miss or need to replace them. Doubt Dennis is going to have the impact we hoped for when news broke so all in all a pretty quiet boring window.
Louza’s played 900 minutes. Regardless of how effective you think he was, that’s a lot of game time to spread around not very many players at all in the second half of the season. If Kayembe, TDB and Kone are unavailable for the same number of games as they were Aug -Dec, then we’ll be putting square pegs in round holes on numerous occasions.
A lot of that is to do with the rise of Livermore though, as the only player who can actually play (competently) in his integral position. As I've droned on about more than once already, if he gets banned and/or, more pressingly, injured for any length of time, we're teleported immediately several nautical miles up shyt creek. To allow that situation to remain, when what we needed was actually a further player in that group just to improve our chances and control of midfield (which is often fairly non-existent as it is) is exactly the type of lazy, myopic profligacy we've really come to expect from Gino. And yes, we've no money, I'm aware. Unless it's to be spent on a fool's errand/summer square peg that immediately needs to be rectified, whilst still simultaneously allowing the hierarchy to wave away criticisms of squad depth with their physical existence.
