As I understand it Trump can’t do an overt ‘you’re fired’ manoeuvre because Vance has now been officially nominated. He’d have to resign from the ticket. Now, obviously Trump could lean on him and easily induce the resignation, but it would deprive Trump of looking as strong and ultimately opens up a whole line of attack about his poor judgement. Vance was a Don Jr pick too.
Yep, correct. Republican party rules only allow the VP nominee to be replaced in the event of them stepping down voluntarily, or dying. Trump can't sack him outright. I suspect if they want him to step down, it'll involve a brown paper envelope to go quietly. Having said that, I think he'll end up being on the ticket come November. Trump's VP pick was made on the basis of one criteria, and one criteria only: the fact he'll do exactly what Trump tells him, unlike Pence (when he refused to not certify the 2020 election).
Walz giving an excellent first performance at the Philly rally tonight. Has good energy about him, speaks well, and clearly has a lot of fight/spine. Looks a potentially inspired choice. There's a definite energy around the Democrat rallies now. The mood has gone from anxious to excited. It's palpable and speaks well towards turnout and momentum. Walz had one particularly amusing zinger of a joke at Vance's expense. I didn't see it coming and it was well delivered. Won't spoil it for the benefit of any other loons who plan on watching the footage at some point, but it wasn't something I'd generally expect to hear from a Democrat politician, which made it all the funnier.
So in plain English this means that the bookies currently believe that Harris is slightly more likely than Trump to win in November?
Other way round! Implies probability of: 55.56% of a Republican victory 54.64% of a Democratic victory So Republicans very slightly favourites at the moment, but just over a week ago that was at a 65% chance of a Republican victory.
I hope the debates in September push the Democrats further along. Fingers crossed that Trump continues to ignore any advice given on how to conduct himself and instead rambles on about Hannibal Lecter, sharks and Harris “turning” black one day.
I imagine the list of proposed giveaways will be huge. He’ll promise the absolute Earth and the Democrats won’t be able to follow, will have to rely on the scepticism of those in the swing States who will decide.
It’s inexplicable that with all the stupid and terrible things he’s said and done that he is still a credible candidate that so many people are prepared to elect to one of the most powerful jobs in the world. It’s also incredibly depressing.
As an observer. can anyone explain which moderator banned Hooter and for what reason? I imagine the offending post was removed (so may well be bad), but my impression was generally he just held the ring leaders on here to account however much they disliked it. He is a big loss, and it's an uninteresting echo chamber to read now.
He held the ringleaders to account by accusing them of all sorts: racism, modern nazism, sexism, misogyny. And when his accusations were disproved, he then claimed ‘ad nauseam’ that he had been PROVEN right and repeated that ‘fact’ to all & sundry. Any attempts at reasoned debate were effectively trashed by his weird combination of messianic narcissism and hypersensitive persecution complex. For myself, I would never have asked him to be banned, so whatever he did must have been pretty extreme considering the inflammatory 5h1t he’d got away with for years.
Can’t remember the exact specifics but I’d assume it was the reply about Hitler being a vegetarian that did for him, but they also wouldn’t drop the fact they got a rebuttal from a mod about after the event either.
So much for ‘uninteresting.’ There is a broader spread of voices than ever before with plenty of different positions being taken. If you mean there is less artlessly trolling people, then yes, there is. If you think that’s a big loss then you can always take a mad position on something, like the Normandy landings were about Russia, and run with it for a few months.
I was mostly just an observer on here until recently, but that was because they made this section unreadable for me. It’s one thing having a reasoned counter view, but they were clearly a troll on a windup, but with the added annoyance of loving the sound of their own voice. Paragraphs and paragraphs of waffle and endless replies to people that could’ve been distilled down into juts saying up is down, or the sky isn’t blue was not in the least bit entertaining.

When I was a mod, bans were always a group decision. It was also policy not to enter into discussion about moderating decisions other than to explain why to the recipient. Mods certainly aren't trigger happy here and there are generally multiple warnings both public and private before such action. Needless to say it's sad to see anyone go for whatever reason but things need to move on.
