But that's just it. It's not. It's an absurdly overblown spoof of Christie populated with profoundly irritating, hammy characters that she would have rejected for being too unrealistic. It makes Death in Paradise look like Strindberg.

How does Glass Onion compare with Knives Out, which I only saw for the first time just before Christmas? I thought that was fun, but not that great - just like Agatha Christie I suppose.

I didn't like that either, for similar reasons. But it's Mrs K who is the Christie fan. She preferred that one to Glass Onion, although she didn't mind the latter.

No it doesn’t. It’s a perfectly watchable film.

Not going to stick in the memory, but so few do.

But thank heavens for Christie and her realistic characters.

    Keighley First Team

Yes it does. And no it isn't.

Christie's characters aren't realistic but they are far better drawn than the absurd cartoon versions in that film. And don't get me started on Daniel Craig's ridiculous accent.

    It's awful.

Yes, the accent is a bit Foghorn Leghorn. Still, it’s payback for **** Van Dyke.

Paid a couple of £ to watch this film on prime, only because my daughter knows the star of the movie and nagged me to watch it. Wasn't expecting much but it was awesome. Would highly recommend it.

No mention so far of the new Avatar film? (Apologies if I have missed it). Saw it on IMAX 3d the other week.
Yeah, guess it was OK. Very long, very loud, really good visuals etc. Suppose I did get quite immersed in it for the 3 hours or so, but it didn't particularly leave a lasting impact on me.

The Green Book - last night on BBC2.

An OK story about a white Italian mafia hood bloke who has to look after a black classical pianist on a tour of the deep south.

They said it was a comedy, but the jokes were pretty weak. Could have been done far better. Of course the mafia bloke beat up racist hillbilly types for being nasty to his pianist boss. But not as much as I would have liked. Could have been done better.

6.5 out of 10. OK because it showed some of the absurdities of deep south racism - such as not even being able to use the toilet. The actor who played the mafia man was pretty good. Bit of a yawn though and could have been a much better film with better writing.

No mention I suppose because the story is absolute cr*p. The visuals however are a thing to behold and I was genuinely upset when that whale thing had it's brain juice removed!

  15. "The actor who played the mafia man" - that was Aragorn, son of Arathorn you pleb! Also check him out in A History of Violence.

Also - Green Book is based on a true story, whether that makes a difference, so Rambo style retribution might not be entirely appropriate. And this is the first time I've seen it described as a comedy.

  16. Bank Of Dave on Netflix. Pretty good true story. Featuring Def Leppard and Sean Dyche!

Re actors' ridiculous accents, in a recent episode of Minder (that I took time off from my hectic schedule to watch the other afternoon) Jimmy Nail was attempting to play a character from Northern Ireland!

Yes really. It has a very, very basic trope of a plot. It could have been a cgi wnakfest (tbf m3gan's face was cgi) but they used puppets and a costumed actor that gave the other actors something to work with. The script fairly 'crackled' along leading to sub-plots about the nature of p0arenting, home-schooling and, for something that centred on the world of toys, what 'playing with toys' means. The 'what are we doing with our children being exposed to screens all the time' was fairly heavy handed but not even the child therapist character was used to ram this down your throat.

Also, M3gan herself steals the show and has some of the best lines in a film ever.

Just started to watch "London Has Fallen" what a ******* insult to the UK security services, I had to turn it off it was so outrageously ridiculous!

Dozens of terrorists in bonafide police uniforms and in genuine police vehicles all fully armed, also dozens of ceremonial guards parading inside Buck Palace, again fully armed, bombs all over London, even a copper checking under VIP cars planting a bomb with the machinery he was using to check for bombs.... It just was ridiculous I had to switch it off. Oh! And of course Gerard Butler the head of the US presidents guard taking out terrorists with every shot, being the big hero.

I had the same problem with Grimsby with Mark Strong. That promised to be a hard hitting spy drama in similar fashion to The Bourne Identity. I found it failed to take the subject matter seriously and was anatomically inaccurate in respect of elephants.

Small Time Crooks - a Woody Allen film with Tracy Ullman and Hugh Grant.

Woody and his mates are terrible thick crooks, but while trying to tunnel into a bank, they get super rich anyway through selling cookies as their cover story. Woody hates being rich.

Quite a clever film with some really good lines. I enjoyed it. It was something different. I'll give it 7.5 out of 10.
