Fifa Career Modes

I'm talking about the game Fifa, on various platforms, I use a PlayStation 4.

I understand Football Manager is the more adult and a 'better' game, but due to my brain pains due to my Mulripke Sclerosis, I cannot handle all the constant wordage and stuff. I used to play Cycling Manger too, but hey ho. I can only play Fifa for around two hours at a time.

I understand, to many, Fifa is childish, but being 49 years old, and enjoying Senesible World of Soccer in the past, I've always been a fake football manager.

Playing a basic career of just win win win, and getting the best team in the world after a few seasons and just score 7 goals a match is crap. Whereas playing a career where every goal scored is important and gives you a buzz, and makes you verbally congratulate the scorer, is much better, to me anyway.

Currently I'm playing a WFC career. I'm not going to sell any of the players, and if I'm forced to purchase someone, I'll just get them, put them on loan in the first season, then sell them the next. Before starting this career I trimmed the squad of older players like Clevs and Cathcart, plus created a few youths, like Adeyemo Abbott.

To make things a little tougher, I constantly change the injury frequency to 100% so as random players get injured for a few months. There's nothing more boring than constantly using the same staring XI season after season. At the moment Hoedt and Porteous are injured, so the reserves are getting a chance.

Career's I've done in the past include an all Wales team, played with Salford City, due to the kit more than anything. I've also done an all Albanian team, using Colchester due to their away strip being Red shirts and Black shorts. Both of these needed me to customise the squads before starting the career.

Most difficult you will probably think I'm a childish sort, but each to their own etc.

I haven’t played FIFA in ages, not since we had a baby last year have I turned my PlayStation on. I’m bang into FM again because I can just get half an hour in here and there and just shut the laptop when something interrupts.

Love a Career Mode though. Playing on Legendary or Ultimate to make it a real challenge, it takes so much concentration but it’s very rewarding. Won the Bundesliga with Koln last time I was playing regularly by grinding out 1-0 wins, defending for my life before hoofing the ball up to a pacy striker.

For some reason I find it more immersive to fill my team with regens, same goes for FM. On FIFA I’ll generally set up all of the youth recruitment and holiday through a couple of years, stopping back in every couple of months to sign on youth players. When the team is full of crap weaklings I’ll get going and also sign regens from other clubs who are just regenerated versions of retired players. I’ll always end up with a Croatian wonderkid in midfield who is the regen of Modric or Rakitic.

I agree, a career on regens is a good way of playing it. In the past, I've been a team like Rochdale, but managed to sign a young regen, who replaced a retiring Ronaldo or Morris, got him as a free agent, £14k wage is way higher than the normal £3k. Then, the following season, you can sell him for around £20 million and make it not as realistic.

    Lee or James? :D

Used to have a mate round every Friday night and we’d play a career mode together and get a curry in. Alas that kind of fun has gone out of the window now that we’re pretending to be grown ups!

We still talk of the time that Landon Donovan fired us to the Premier League title with Blackburn.

I've no idea what this means, or what it has to do with air fryers. Mods?

Nothing wrong with liking and playing Fifa. I admit I think I've played them all actually, from the first one which was just labeled FIFA SOCCER back in 1994, before they started naming them after each year. Career mode is pretty cool, and I do like the way you change things up regarding injuries and lineups, that is something I hardly ever did so it's a refreshing outlook on it. Main issue people have with Fifa nowadays is the loot box system and the fact EA Sports have more or less changed what was once a fun game into a serious game running on a decades old Engine format with a slight tweak to lineups and graphical updates each iteration. It's become stale, and has been that way for a good few years. FM has never really been my thing, but I do agree it can be fun and some people who are really good at it can make some amazing teams and it has massive longplay life attached to it.

Pro Evolution Soccer has been the main rival to Fifa's empire for years, and a lot of Fifa players made the switch to PES a long time ago. If EA took away the loot boxes and stopped trying to monetise everything about it then I have no doubt it would do a lot better. Fifa 2008 is probably my all time fave one if I had to pick. I loved the soundtrack, there was a song called "Butterfly" by a band "Superbus", couldn't understand a word of it, but it was very catchy. Interesting you mentioned Sensible Soccer, my friend had that on an Amiga 2800 way back in the day. Small pitch and tiny sprites but my god, what a game that was. :)

It was meant to be Modric, but I have created a James Morris, with a wicked super trendy haircut.

I used to have a workmie come round my house about 20 years ago, playing LMA Manager, with Fish and Chips sometimes

Wow, so much info. Yeah, Fifa is all about the dollar these days, the school kids using FUT etc, not good. The soundtracks these days I don't listen to, Radio 6music usually. But in the past there's been some nice tunes. Nine Inch Nails...Copy of a, being a fave.

With Sensi on the Amiga, it was so funny, El Salvador had about 8 leagues, a mate who played for Bangor City was on it. Jamie Moralee was Watford's best player on it, lol etc

Not childish at all. Playing games are proven to help with your condition so it’s great that you are doing this.

I also loved SWOS. I can still remember the palpable excitement of getting it for Christmas and playing it pretty relentlessly through til New Year. I believe it’s still updated even today.

Never thought of it being good for my MS, weird but true I guess. I'm a real statto though. I used to be an Admin Team Leader in a large Store, fun job telling young female student to do various stuff. It's where I met my wife. She was 21 and I was 30, I've always lacked confidence to be honest, but she wanted to date me coz she said I was kind and funny. Anyway, thanks for the positiveness Going Down

The fun we’d have playing PES 2009 when we got back from the pub, aged 18. Dear god I miss that.

We had a team we created from scratch called Blimp A.F.C. No idea why. We even went to the trouble of creating a badge which was E.T with an enormous ****, holding a pistol.

Video games can be a great social experience with mates but yeah playing online is generally pretty unedifying.

Solo gaming is all about losing yourself in your own little world. Nothing makes you feel more immature than trying to tell your wife that you just need to finishing adjusting a youth team player’s fitness regime and then you can take over watching the baby.

This lad was demanding my attention. 15 and just looked at those attributes. I’ve never seen anything like it.

I remember this guy on TV, forget his name, he was playing FM on a train as Man City, he was in a final, and he had loads of people cheering him.

Yeah, solo gaming losing yourself in your own little world. I'm not after sympathy, just telling facts, but my life for the pat 19 years has been very simple and lonely. Yes, I have a wife and family, I occasionally go to the library in my wheelchair, but most of the time I'm happy sat in my man cave, playing Fifa, reading a book, listening to the radio, messing about with porn etc. I never go on Twitter, such a waste of time. I'm on Facebook if anyone wants to be my friend. I don't drink don't smoke, I love coffee and chocolate. I also have Schizophrenia/Bipolar, diagnosed when I was 18; which can become an evil feeling when my brain switches to bipolar high and I get an episode in a crowded public place. Anyway, football....

Wow, talk about TMI. I guess, mentioning my mental condition was like an olive branch to see if other people were willing to share their mental health related world.

I’ve struggled with depression since I was about 10. Video games have always been a way of shutting out the world, for sure. I’ve found a balance of medication, healthy relationships and lifestyle changes that have me in a good place and over the last few years I’ve become more forward looking and comfortable with myself.

In all honesty I think I’m like a lot people when they see an account like yours detailing some really **** luck, and your struggles with physical and mental health, I think the reflex is to stand off and say ‘well no matter how sad or crazy I am, thank **** I don’t have it that bad’

And while it might not mean much from a stranger on the internet, I hope you’re in a good place at the minute and living well.

Wow, thanks for the lovely message Filbert, sorry to hear about your bleak past but well done for overcoming your issues and having a stable happy life. I'm on so many Meds for MS and bipolar type 2, but they work, and the NHS is basically awesome.

As regards mental problems, nobody is normal, everyone lives with some kind of anxiety or addiction or depression. I've worked for a local charity to help school kids with issues, someone to be there when they have negative thoughts etc.

I don't know if anyone gives a monkeys, but I've just finished the first season.

I came 2nd to Millwall in the league
Won the FA Cup, by cheating and making the AI acceleration down to 0%, so I could play Europa next season.
Top scorer was Sarr with 26 goals, he is great on Fifa
Bad injuries to Ngakia, Hamza and Hoedt
In February, I had 12 injuries, played Kayembe at RB etc
Adeyemo and Abbott are getting lots better
Players of the season were Louza, pulling the strings and Morris, solid and able to tear down the left wing and create chances.

I'm enjoying it more than I thought.

My Europa league group is Frankfurt, Molde and Adana Demirspor. Assambalonga was still playing for Adana, coz I didn't update the squads after the January transfer window. So far I've lost to Frankfurt and beaten Adana.

I'm doing ok in the Prem, mid table, I've had 8 major injuries so far. I've tried to get Davis injured, but that's one thing I can't control on Fifa.

In career mode some of the tasks are a little stupid. Get the average age of the squad up to 29 is annoying, plus get 5 home wins in a row or 7 clean sheets etc. Most must be done to not get sacked.

Morris is getting a little too good now, he's up to 78 from 71. He needs an injury to curb his enthusiasm for being a world class player.

I’m up to season 5: my Premiership finishes have been 10th 6th 3rd.

live decided to sign ex Hornets to fill my squad. They need to be youngish,

Could I ask for some that might qualify please.

Pervis Estupinan is a must, even if he didn’t actually play for us? Or did he?

Cucho is another, anyone with suggestions?
