It hardly makes up for decades of corruption, but it's a start.

I do believe Sepp has finally grasped the situation.

Yes Sepp, if you had awarded the World Cup based on the strength of the bids tendered instead of based on who paid the largest bung you would indeed not be where you are.

    What a prize ***!

I do hope so but I fear the rot is just to deep.

This morning I opened the BBC News app on my tablet and it only half refreshed the home page first time.

Yesterday's mainline was something like "Blatter and Plattini banned from football for 8 years", this morning's headline is "UK military deployed to Helmand", as the page only half rendered the headline for a short time read "Blatter and Plattini deployed to Helmand", shame it wasn't real.

Did some lamp Blatter in the face?

If so I want to buy them a beer...

    He had a mole removed.

Perhaps someone told him his FIFA problems were all down to a mole and he misunderstood.

Can we go with 'someone lamped him'?

    I'd feel better...

Platini has now announced that he will not be standing in the upcoming FIFA Presidential election.

That's Michel Platini, the chap who was recently given a total ban from global football for 8 years.

Thanks for clearing that one up, Michel.

I was bemused when I saw that on the BBC homepage.

Gianni Infantino has been voted in as the new President - he was working at UEFA so not sure how much difference this will make?

The FA and naturally most of the European nations wanted him.

"With his experience, expertise, strategic and diplomatic skills he has all the qualities to continue my work," says Sepp. I hope not.

I heard someone recently put forward the theory that FIFA should be floated on the US stock exchange. For all sorts of reasons - none of which I can remember - it sounded like a very good idea

    Transparency rules, probably.

Blatter is such a ******. Seems determined to give as many unhelpful quotes as possible:

"I'm happy that Gianni Infantino is president, a man from (the Swiss region of) Oberwallis like me. I drank some mulled wine with him at Christmas time, gave him tips."

I read the USA intended to back the Jordanian candidate whose name, though a Google search away, escapes me.

I wonder what the quid pro quo waw there...? What did he offer to do that Infantino couldn't or wouldn't?

To Cheeky's point, no I'll never trust FIFA. Ever.

They voted Prince Ali in the first round and then Infantino in the second. It's not a particularly suspicious voting pattern as it was replicated by others. Prince Ali was against the Bahraini candidate so it's natural his voters were asked to push Infantino over the line in the second round.

Meet the new leadership, same as the old leadership.
